Just saw this at two Transworld Stores: Saturday Matinee and FYE.
They are taking pre-orders now.
I wonder why Nintendo is being so stealthy about this?
No, I don't have a link, but it should come to light in a few days.

Wow, I can't believe it's taken that long for the US to get the black Wii. The UK (and most of europe) have had it for nearly six months now.
I've been searching the net and scouring retail and gaming sites for --ANY-- kind of proof for the signs I saw on Monday.
I cannot simply go back to the stores I was in on Monday, as I live in the city and got a ride out to Long Island to do some shopping.
After finding absolutely NOTHING to back what I saw, I even started to doubt what I saw MYSELF. (Did I read something incorrectly. Is this some kind of scam?)
I went into my usual GameStop yesterday and asked the manager there if he's heard ANYTHING. His reply was "No." but he called his Nintendo Rep to see if you he could glean some information.
Today, he told me: The rep put this Manager through to HIS boss and he neither confirmed nor DENIED the information. What he did say was even more intriguing though.
What he said verbatim was this:
"The Wii is going to have a HUGE May, besides the obvious."
When pressed for more, all he did was repeat:
__________________________
"The Wii is going to have a HUGE May, besides the obvious."
__________________________
I am assuming the "obvious" would be Galaxy 2. The "besides"...?

Black Wii? A few years too late there >_>. Not going to shell out hard-earned money just to change the color of my console, and of course I cannot bring over VC or Wiiware games to the other Wii.
Nintendo is so far behind on that one that it's just shocking.Black Wii? A few years too late there >_>. Not going to shell out hard-earned money just to change the color of my console, and of course I cannot bring over VC or Wiiware games to the other Wii.

I confirmed it with a friend who went back to the Roosevelt Field Mall on Long Island:
F.Y.E. does indeed have a sign up saying (not verbatim):
Wii
Pre-Order Your System Today
in black or white.
Quantities will be limited. Reservations will be filled in order of date placed.
Pre-orders may satisfied in future shipments.
*black Wii coming 5/09/10.
The entire mall is abuzz. There are two GameStops in the same mall; they are being tight lipped. If they know anything they are not talking. Their general attitudes are "We knew they were coming, we just didn't have an exact date."
Beyond this: I have a funny feeling something else is going on. Stealth game release? Price Drop? Virtual Console announcement? Just heavy promotion for Mario Galaxy 2 and/or Mother's Day?
Dunno, but something's looming and (for once) the gaming community is remaining tight-lipped.

I still don't have a Wii yet, and I plan to get one soon, so this is good for me personally. However, I agree that Nintendo are way behind the ball on this; they really are the masters of screwing over the early adopter.
Even if I wanted one, i can't transfer all my VC purchases, as they are tied down to my console, and not an account with Nintendo. So it's not even an option.SteveTabernacle

Uh, welcome to consumer electronics. This sort of thing happens with nearly every new product that comes out. Nintendo is hardly unique here.

Leo SCOOPS the WORLD ! ! !
WOO!
From Kotaku:
"Tipsters from Target, GameStop and Future Shop—as well as one shopper at FYE, where the black Wii bundle is apparently available for pre-order—tell Kotaku that a new Wii bundle is bound for the United States and Canada in May, one that will include a black-colored Wii console, first released in Japan in the summer of 2009. The new Wii bundle appears to include copy of Wii Sports Resort and a Wii MotionPlus add-on in the package. The new bundle is listed at $199.99 USD."

Really now? I put some VC games on my SD card, took it out of my Wii, brought it back home, and put it into my older bros Wii. I tried to play Super Mario Bros 3 on it, and it wouldn't let me.
They would probably do this so you can't just have a friend copy off your SD card and get a game or games for free.

Did you copy? or Move?Would have been nice if Nintendo could have made some hardware upgrades to sweeten the pot. But all things considered, that's not a bad bundle.
I don't get how it took them almost four years to paint a Wii black. Do you know what I'm going to do? I'm going to go out and buy a can of black spray paint. *facepalms*JustPlainLucas
Anyone can make a console green or dark gray like Microsoft, but Nintendo ushers in a new era of innovation with a black Wii console.:P

I wager they were holding it back for when sales of the console started to slow, that way they could use it as a way of enticing more people to buy one. It worked for the Color Gameboy's (the original Gameboy with a different colored case, for those who don't know), so why not the Wii, right?
I got a black Wii for christmas and although it looked great, the Wii itself i found to be very dissapointing. You'd be better off just spray painting your white WiiSteverXIIIlol, i like how you think :P
...and here it is:
The black Wii console, which we already knew was coming, has today been officially revealed by Nintendo of America. It'll still be $199, and include not one game, but two.
Along with the Wii console, controller and nunchuk, the new Wii pack will include a Wii MotionPlus accessory and a copy both of Wii Sports and its sequel, Wii Sports Resort. We knew this too, but still, confirmation is always appreciated.
This price and bundle deal will extend to both the black and existing white models of the console, with the new pack (and black Wii) going on sale on May 9.
Straight from the mouths of Nintendo themselves:
NINTENDO TO INCLUDE WII SPORTS RESORT, WII MOTIONPLUS WITH ALL NEW WII SYSTEMS
Starting May 9, Wii Hardware Will Be Available in Black or White
REDMOND, Wash., May 3, 2010 - A great value in video games is about to get even better. Starting May 9, Nintendo will add new elements to the baseline Wii™ system package offered at retailers throughout the Americas. In addition to the intuitive, motion-sensing Wii Remote™ controller, Nunchuk™ controller and popular Wii Sports™ game that currently comes standard with each system purchase, every new unit will now also come packaged with Wii Sports Resort™ and the control-enhancing Wii MotionPlus™ accessory. In addition, consumers will be able to choose between two color schemes for the Wii console and included controllers: original white, or a new black option. The U.S. suggested retail price of the new system package will remain at $199.99. Pricing outside the United States will be established by the local markets, but offer similar consumer value.
"Nintendo leads the way in delivering rich motion-control gaming experiences at an accessible price point," said Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime. "By including even more of our top-quality hardware and software in the basic Wii system package, we're extending that commitment to entertainment and value. Now more than ever, consumers can count on Nintendo to deliver inclusive fun and advanced motion controls at a mass-market price."
Wii Sports Resort expands on the active-play fun of the original Wii Sports, with resort-themed activities such as wakeboarding, archery and swordplay. What's more, Wii Sports Resort features the rich control enhancements of Wii MotionPlus, which allows users to dive in and enjoy precision motion-control excitement right out of the box.
Wii MotionPlus has set the standard in precision motion control by delivering an immersive, social experience unavailable on any other system. As of May 9, when both the Wii Sports Resort game and a Wii MotionPlus accessory will come standard with every new Wii console, people who purchase the system can experience this leading-edge video game technology from the moment they plug in and power up.
Previously unavailable throughout the Americas, the black version of the Wii console will offer all the groundbreaking features and functions of its white counterpart in a stylish new color scheme. Whether they aim to color-coordinate with other devices or simply love the way it looks, consumers throughout the Americas can add a black Wii console with matching black Wii Remote and Nunchuk controllers to their home entertainment lineup. Additional black controllers and accessories can be purchased separately.
The Wii system launched in November 2006 and continues to attract millions of new and experienced gamers with its intuitive motion-sensing controls and inclusive game offerings.
Remember that Wii features parental controls that let adults manage the content their children can access. For more information about Wii, visit Wii.com.
I just saw the new Wii package in stores. Doesanyone else think Nintendo missed an opportunity by making their second pack-in another minigame collection as opposed to a core game like Red Steel 2 (which I mention because it uses the extra Wiimote sensor)?

CarnageHeart
That didn't happen because the Wii isn't marketed primarily to gamers. The inclusion of a minigame collection does enough to showcase the central feature of the Wii. I don't see any problem with this.
Does it do HD yet?

Why do I get the feeling this is mild flamebait?;) I do think Nintendo squandered an opportunity to introduce a new console design to meet the needs of higher definition home systems. They already turn a profit on the hardware, I don't see the inclusion of true HD as breaking the bank.

1.) I don't like Nintendo lately so yes I'm a hater if you want to call me that. It was more of a rhetorical question meaning... well see point 2. 2.) Different colors don't improve the performance. Therefore I don't care that the PS3 comes in white now or the Xbox has a camo paint job either. 3.) About Wii HD I guarantee a patch or update will do anything for that. I know Nintendo will come out with a WiiSiHD or something like that. Please Log In to post.
