Is there a video game genre, you really really liked as a kid, but you hate it now?

If you do, tell us the genre and explain what made you love it less.

I will start, as a kid i liked strategy games [any kind of... AOE, Red Alert...], but nowdays i dont like them so much.

As i started to play more action games i think i kinda neglected the strategy genre and it not looks as fun as it was back then.

I also think that strategy games a little bit slow, and time consuming, and now days i dont find any intrest to play them.

I used to like beatem-up's like Streets of Rage, Final Fight, and Ninja Turtles, but now they're really the only beatem'ups I like. As a genre I find it rather boring now.

2d platform games. On the commador and Amiga days I used to play any of them I could get my hands on. These days it's my most ignored genre, I don't want to go collecting stars and coins for extra lives while making leaps across platforms over bottomless pits and pools of water while jumping on things heads or punching them. It's old school gameplay that doesn't do anything for me now.

Im not playing platforms now days also.... but played them as a kid.

My favorite game was Rayman the classic one from 1996.

I beat this game over and over again when i was small, nowdays i have only the sweet memories about it... because i dont think i will play it ever again

I used to love platformers, but "platformers" now seem more focused on making the combat more fleshed out, and lessening the difficulty of the actual platforming. I used to love sports games, but now i just find them extremely boring.

Beat em ups are that genre to me. I miss the good old arcade days. Now there is not a good beat em up insight. The last one I played was Unbound Saga on the PSP. I want those moments of my life back! The genre is just so stale now it's not even worth looking at.

Platformers...

Thats all there really was most of the time back in the 80s and early 90s. Sick of 1 hit 1 kill or instant death falling into pit gameplay. 3D gaming changed all that.

JRPG's.

Used to love them up until the age of 12 or so, now can't stand them.

But I think it's the whole JP anime thing, because I can't stand that either anymore.

Definitely platformers for me. There was a time where the only games I had were games like Bungie's Oni, a sci-fi epic called Outcast, and even Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb (still an awesome game for me haha). Not to mention American McGees Alice, and oh yeah! Those old Crash Bandicoot games.

I wouldn't say I hate the genre, but I think the last time I played one has to be The Emperor's Tomb. Can't wait to play Uncharted though.

Fighting games are probably another big one. I don't think I was every particularly good at them, but I remember my earliest memories of gaming playing Marvel vs Street Fighter and Soul Blade (not Soul Caliber, SOUL BLADE FFS) and loving the hell out of them. Now I have come to terms that I suck at them and don't get any enjoyment out of them.

Other than that, I've been pretty consistent. I've always hated racing; as much as I like Lucas Arts graphic adventures now, I never played them as a kid. And I've even grown to love RPGs after my time spent with KoTOR.

I'll toss my hat into the Platformer ring as well. Mind you, I don't hate platformer elements. But straight platformers bore the hell out of me. I play for about 20-30 minutes, and I get tired of the gameplay, because it's all mindless digital dexterity.

action games/ platformers i simply find them to be a waste of money unless i get them really cheap. i find rpgs have better combat, more deep, better story, and on top of that their freaking 70 hours + long. i don't even remotely like playing action games anymore.

Real time strategy games have my disinterest for a long time. I bought SC2 and I am enjoying it on a more casual basis, but the last RTS I bought prior to that was the first Empire Earth. Even then, my enthusiasm died prior to that, even, with Age of Empires 2. I was more into the long games, building up your empire, researching stuff late in the game, and unleash large, highly advanced units into the enemy's kingdom and see the results. Then my fun deflated quick when the rush strategies were discovered and employed en mass. I guess I like to relax when I play strategy type games, and not have to rush through it. This probably explains my excitement with turn based strategy.

Fighting, I guess. It just takes too much time and dedication to be any good.

Platformers for the most part I think. Just can't get into recent ones at all. The only platformers I'll still play are Super Mario World and Donkey Kong Country series. The genre pretty much died for me with the SNES.

Fighters - Don't want to take the time to learn all the moves. Plus, I would rather play against an opponent in my house...and I rarely have people over.

RTS - I enjoyed C&C et al, but they are just too difficult for my wee brain now.

Sports - I don't think I loved them, more that I'm not that great at them now, and the idea of playing a season in any of the big four sports gamesdoesn't really get me all hot and bothered.

Fighting games: going 3D made moving around and performing attacks more difficult for me. Also, next gen system controllers don't do me any favors. If I had a choice I'd stick with 2D and a game where the controls were simple.

Revenge of Shinobi

Super mario 2

Both these games I gleefully bought once they were avail on downloadable content for the wii. I loved both of those games as a kid. After playing it afresh I couldn't believe I had ever liked both games. What was I thinking? I also do not remember them being so difficult. A total waste of money. Just plain frustrating!

I used to be obsessed with Pokemon and Yugioh video games..ofcourse who wasn't. Pokemon - I forced myself to stop playing it after i was like 13 - had to outgrow the pokemon ''stage''. Yugioh - I can't stand it because it's based on good luck .
