Hello. I've been gaming for many many years. Recently I have thought up of a good gaming idea that could be used in other games or in my own game if I ever choose to make one. I don't even know how to make a game or anything like that, and I do not know the process of it. I was wondering if anyone knew how to go about protecting the idea, or how to find out if it is suitable for fps games. I also dont want my idea going to waste and me telling someone about it and them using it in a game coming up and I basically get screwed out of my idea. I dont even know if its possible to profit from a gaming idea. Any help would be appreciated.

yes, i am aware of that. but i was told that in order to do that for a video game idea, you have to put it into a game first. although im not entirely sure if that is true or not.

How about building you idea into a mod for a current title? Unreal Tournament 3 has a very powerful engine and will likely be able to do what ever it is you want to do.

Actually, it's called copyright. Here's what you need to do: Write down your ideas in some way and you have copyright over it. The new standards on copyright law make it that easy...once you have it down in writing, it's yours for your life +70 years. Now actually getting that idea into a game, well, that's a whole other can of worms. Learn some programming in Flash or how to make mods for games like Half-Life 2 to get your feet wet into game programming, then if you really end up liking it, dive even deeper into some hardcore programming.
