1) Gameplay...but with this alone you have a game like Space Invaders...game that never dies and stays brilliant, but doesn't do anything new either. 2) Others, control systems, loading times, glitches and other stuff like that, make a game up...how many great games are there with seriously bad controls, very few. 3) Story, games do not need a story, but adding one can make a game legendary. 4) Graphics and Physics are strange subject, you do not need them to have a great game, and sometimes games are made brilliant by not having great physics or graphics but by having unique graphics and physics...Either they only improve the quality of a game. 5) Sounds aren't needed but they can seriously improve a game. 6) Gore and Porn, yeh...Gore can make a game great but its not needed and porn...yeh. Nice and all but very rare. Of course the more of this you have on a game the chances are the game will be better...yet...the old games still seem much better then games of today and they barely had anything on them, but focused a lot on gameplay.

Gameplay - Kind of a loaded term Other - Customization - Whether that be of the story line or of your equipment or anything else Story - Gotta be involved/properly motivated Graphics - Don't need to be awesome, but certainly help Sound - In an FPS, certainly, in any other game I tend to turn it off Gore/Porn - Not needed at all, gore helps with realism, but meh...

1-10. Gameplay - Great gameplay can trump lots of deficiencies elsewhere. 11. Polish - get rid of the glitches and bugs 12. Story - A great story can make you feel more involved in the game 13. Music - most ppl probably don't care but I have a big appreciation for a great soundtrack 14. Sound 15. Artwork - love something that's pretty to look at 16. Value - make people feel like their $59.99 is well spent :) 17. Challenge - I like a challenge but mostly get turned off with no challenge, makes you feel like you didn't get your money's worth 18. Innovation - don't have to be innovative to be great but it's a plus Those are the main things I like to look for, but it's mostly about gameplay and fun.

Thank you, Canvas. What's even more of a ball-buster is when they come out with a patch to fix your glitched quest, but it won't work with your old saves.
