Hey,

I am just wondering how many of you either read or watch full reviews of games before buying them. I am talking reviews by Gamespot, IGN, or GameTrailers etc.. I usually always do, but I feel that sometimes they may give to much away. I ordered a PS3, and a few games, and for instance, the videp reviews for Resistance: Fall of Man talk about the back story, and certain events. Do you feel that these reviews take away from the experience once you actually play the game?

-Thanks

I don't really read reviews to help me decide which games to buy. If a game interests me, I look at the average review score and if it's good enough, I'll buy the game. I do read and watch reviews but only so that I can find out what other people think of the games I've played.

I only look at the scores to determine what I buy. If I read the review, I feel like I'll just be recycling their opinions in my review later.

I always check reviews before buying a game, but I always remember that a review is just some one's opinion.

That being said, there are usually some things about a review that you can always rely on. Techincal issues, for example If a game constantly crashes, I will avoid it. There's really no opinion on that issue, either the game is buggy or it isn't. Also, broken controls and annoying camera are not really matters of opinion.

I always laugh when a game review says a game is 'boring'. That's totally subjective and silly to put in a serious game review. I can't count the number of times Gamespot has ragged on the Dynasty Warrior serries for being the same as the previous release and I can't count the number of hours I've logged playing the Dynasty Warriors games because I think they are the most fun out there.

I don't bother waiting for reviews if the game is a sure thing: I'm sure Resident Evil 5 and Final Fantasy XIII will be great. There are also some games I ignore the reviews for even if they really aren't all that great. This is usually the case when I've been in love with the game's story/theme/atmosphere from day one, enough to not care about flaws in the gameplay. This was the case with Kane and Lynch for me, and similarly, I'll probably buy Heavy Rain, Infamous, and LA Noire even if they get 5s. In any other situations, I wait for the reviews.

Thanks again replies. As said, I watch video reviews from GameTrailers, IGN, and Gamespot, but I worry that sometimes they give some parts away. Do you feel that the reviews tell too much about story and characters to lessen the experience? Such as Resistance 1 and 2, I have never played them but I definately will, I have seen the video reviews and hope that watching didn't take away from the experience when I actually play them, I don't want spoilers, haha.

-Thanks

I usually read GS reviews, out of habit. But go to the "other reviews & player review" section and pick out the one's from sites I like, and hopefully users I know. I also chat often on the PSN when I see a friend playing a new game to get feedback. There are about 10 people or so I go back and forth with which has been very, very helpful. One of my friends told me to go out and buy Dead Space right away, fantastic advice, it had hardly any hype.

Usually I'll check Gamespot, and Gametrailers score for a game, but ultimately I look at the average score given by the players reviews.

I read the reviews if I don't much about the game and I want more info on it. Metal Gear Solid 4 review I didn't read because I knew I was going to get it regardless. I wanted the entire Metal Gear Solid series. A game like Tales of Vesperia I would read since I don't know much about the series.
