I found something interesting that states videogamers have more control over their dreams making them more lucid. I thought it was fascinating.Apparently us gamers have more awareness than non gamers and are better prepared for real life threats because of gaming and these lucid dreams

I've had lucid dreams as well as experience with sleep paralysis and hypnogagia. Thankfully, I know what it is, so I never tricked myself into thinking I had been attacked by a demon or was haunted, or some such nonsense. The downside is that I usually wake up when I gain lucidity, and I gain lucidity pretty much every single time I go to sleep, resulting in me only sleeping for about an hour or two before waking up. I would literally kill to be able to go back to sleeping through the night like I did in my early teen years and before that.

Interesting and awesome topic.

I feel bad for you Steve, you have my sympathy. I had problems with insomnia for years until I found an all natural reliable sleep aid, it helps me sleep thorough the night and decrease the intensity and frequency of my dreams and nightmares.

Years ago when the 1st crackdown came out I had a lucid nightmare about being in the game and jumpin from building to building, but instead of a city full of crooks below me on the streets, it was zombies!! I kept jumping for a while and tried to avoid them but eventually fell into their midst and as they circled me for their feast, I awoke. I swear this is true and happen a few weeks after the 1st games release, so imagine my surprise when years later crackdown 2 comes out with, you guessed it a crackdown zombie filled game.

These are all really interesting. I never knew some people had such surreal dreams. Nice to break away from the norm of topics. but I also had no Idea that us gamers were more susceptible to them. Very interesting indeed. I usually have a dream where I have just woken from a dream, a dream within a dream Inception kind of stuff. But when I awake into the second dream, its of me lying in bed totally paralysed where I can't move anything not even speak, Then I wake up in the exact same position I was in when paralysed. It freaks me out

Sleep paralysis, if you see things, (shadow people etc.) hypnogagia. Nothing to be afraid of. I find if I focus on trying to move one body part constantly, it helps to snap me out of it.

Thats actually quite true. I sometimes focus on moving my arm and all of a sudden it will just pop out of paralysis and I can move my other body parts with it. But it feels very real sometimes and its one of my worst fears to wake up and just be paralysed, not being able to tell anyone. But im glad to see im not alone

"Gackenbach first became interested in video games in the 1990s, when she watched her son repeatedly kiss a new Nintendo gaming console on the way home from a Toys "R" Us."

For some reason, this brought an image to mind that made me seriously laugh hard. Oh man that's funny. On Topic, I've had one lucid dream a while back, it was the most amazing experience I've ever had, and I'd love to get one again. Shaping my own reality. If there's a heaven, I really can't imagine one better.

Well, what you're saying isn't the main idea of a lucid dream. it's your dream, you have full control over it and you can do whatever you want! like flying, walking through walls, blowing stuff up or whatever. I personaly find it really fun.

There are books you can look up on it and there are ways of training yourself to be more susceptible to lucid dreams.

One common way is to throughout the day to ask yourself "am i awake" if you get in the habit of doing this every once in awhile you will do it in you dreams as well, and when you do, and you realize you are asleep, if you can remain asleep, you gain lucidity. I know it sounds goofy but try it if your interested.

Another way to induce them is set an alarm for 4-6 hours after you go to sleep, this is when you will be in your R.E.M phase and if you are awoken from it abrubtly and then go back to sleep you are much more likely to realize you are dreaming, and then again be able to control your dreams.

Lastly just try using the snooze button on your alarm a few times in the morning, and you will notice an increse in the freqency of your dreams, your ability to recall, and control them.

Pretty sweet stuff.

What is this, I don't even...

I've played tons and tons of videogames throughout my life, but I've never had 1 truly lucid dream! Pretty much after I discover that I'm dreaming it all starts to fade away, and go blank, and I begin to wake up, sometimes it takes long, but it's not really a dream at that point.

There have been some strange cases I've experienced though,1 of them was like I had a dream I forgot about, and then the whole world was blank, or dark, or both... I can't explain, and I kinda figured that I was waking up, it was like I was almost conscious but not quite yet, I tried to move my body but I couldn't for a while, and I got scared like I thought something was wrong with my nerves as my body wasn't reacting to my thoughts but then after a few frightening movements I came to.

Can any1 explain this?

ya that DOES sound really fun. But I don't think I will ever have one unfortunately. I have a really hard remembering my dreams so that probably makes it less likely.

That's called sleep paralysis. When you move you body inside a dream (arms, legs, etc) it's supposed to happen in real life too, at the same time. But there's a part of the brain that activates during REM, that paralise your body to keep your movements inside the dream only. Sometimes , you wake up, but that part of the brain keeps working, and that's why you can't move. When it happens, you can just fight it. But if you went back to sleep directly, there's a high chance that you're gonna enter a lucid dream.

Its quite terrifying when this happens. But some societies believe that you can't move because there is a demon or ghost like creature sitting on your chest tring to take something from you. Its considered somewhat of a bad omen.

This is the line that really seems to get me "observer dreams where they viewed themselves from outside their bodies" which I've been experiencing for the past 10 years. I go from being a in a first person view whenever I'm interacting with my dream environment and then back to a third person view which varies in distance and direction constantly, when traveling distances or going from one scene of my dream to the next.

I don't believe I've ever changed something in my dream, but I have stories and characters that are played out in my dream that are of something from a video-game for sure. There's also always some sort of threat or foe in my dreams that I am meant to conquer but I usually end up becoming the threat in the end, which makes sense according to "She found that gamers experienced less or even reversed threat simulation (in which the dreamer became the threatening presence)".

Very weird.

I experienced sleep paralysis since i was a kid, but nothing too often. (im 22 now).

The last time it happend, was the first time i struggled to free myself and i did it. (usually i always waited because it was too hard to fight it)

For some reason, when i have sleep paralysis, i always have the feeling that someone standing near my bed watching me and im getting scared. One time i even screamed and my grandma came to my room to see what happend.

As for dreams, i have some dreams that feel real to me but nothing too "lucid".

That's interesting. Just last night I had a lucid dream. It was pretty boring, I was in an airport and when I fell down stairs (in an airport?) and didn't feel any pain, I realized I was dreaming. I woke up a few minutes after that unfortunately...

Interesting read. I always remember my dreams after I wake up, but rarely do I have lucid dreams. I can recall a few times when I had lucid dreams. One time I knew it was a dream and manipulated the dream so I could fly. The second time I just knew I was dreaming, but I didn't do anything about it, I just let my dream continue. The third time when I knew it was a dream I unfortunately woke up, and that's what happens most of the time when I know that I'm dreaming.

I've had a fair few Lucid dreams, a couple of days ago I had that sleepparalysis and spent three hours forcing my body to move, eventually it responded. Hate when that happens.

I've also had dreams where I solve a game and remember how to solve it when I wake up, I tend to remember my dreams a lot.

I've had this almost exactly, except there was a part before it where ghostly versions of my friends came and told me things and then the paralysis bit happened and I couldn't move or breathe, so so terrifying. anyways, when I woke up I wasn't sure if my friends had actually been in my room or not. Seemed like a vivid memory.

Luckily, its only happened once
