Even some of the old NES games lied about what the future would look like.

We still dont have cities with hi tech buildings.

still no laser gates

mech robots to ride around in

no evil aliens withi war machines in the jungles

I love 1970 sci fi movies where we have like flying cars in 2010 but everyone still has 1970' s haircuts in the future.

Yeah, people had some far out ideas about what the twenty-first century would be like. We probably will never see any technology that the games and movies portrayed in our lifetime.

I think the original 4 .hack games (Infection, Mutation, Outbreak, Quarantine) took place in 2007 (actual game came out in '03 I think). According to that game we were supposed to have an MMORPG where you put a headset on and could see into this crazy RPG esque world as if you were actually "in" it, sort of like virtual reality. And then the sequel took place in about 2015, 3 years from now.

Where's our virtual reality MMO? I am dissapoint. :P

According to Ghost Recon, it has already been 4 years since the Ghosts saved Russia from an Ultranationalist terrorist takeover. Lie? Perhaps...

Trains are far from dead...

And while everyone else discussed games and their outrageous expectations for the future I'm actually going to say that Halo. The game takes place hundreds of years from now and evidently humans went backwards as their guns and vehicles are worse than what we have now.
