Diablo is the only Blizzard game I've actually loved. I tried starcraft and couldn't get into and and with a brief moment of forgetfulness, I bought Warcraft III and rerealized that I suck at those games.
Diablo III was their perfect announcement.
There's no point in Blizzard making another MMO. Even within its own company WoW is too much to compete with. I don't think they should create another MMO until WoW had run its course. That way it would be easier to convert WoWs player base over to whatever new MMO they are making.
They should continue making non MMO such as Starcraft, Diablo 3, Warcraft , WoW expansions and maybe even new IPs until they are ready to move onto the next MMO project.
As for they subject matter, Diablo III is what I was hoping for, thank you Blizzard.:D
I was honestly looking forward for Blizzard to stop beating dead horses and get on with a new IP.
Or even a Lost Vikings 2.
Yes, Diablo III is exactly what I wanted. I played a lot of Warcraft and Starcraft when I was younger, but I suck at RTS games and I don't really want to play them anymore. Just too much micromanagement for me.
Also I was getting worried that Diablo III was going to be the "Next-gen MMO" Blizzard has been hinting at, and I'm very relieved to see it's keeping its basic formula instead.
Has anyone noticed that Blizzard is in the iD software rut of just cycling through their franchises? iD - Wolfenstien, Doom, Quake; repeat... repeat... Blizzard: World of WarCraft, StarCraft, Diablo; repeat... repeat... The difference is of course iD's are all shooters, but Blizzards have a little more variety: RTS or Character level grinds.
As much as I loved D2, it is just one big level / loot grind. Unless they change that I don't care how pretty they make D3, it wasn't what I wanted.raahsnavj
Yeah, they are cycling through the same franchises, but the releases are spaced out enough that it doesn't bother me. Diablo 2 and Starcraft were both released 8 years ago. Its been 6 years since WC3. And WOWs going on its 4th year and it still only has 1 expansion on shelves - compared with other mmos that have had 3-4 in the same period.
Without question. I would not let any other game deprive me of what social life I have left. It just feels...right.
Yeah im pumped for D3 more than anything else, I would like to see a prper Warcraft 4 though.GodModeEnabled
It's too bad someone already took what would have been the perfect subtitle for a Warcraft 4:
No More Heroes.
I know everyone is dying to play this game, but I thought I'd ask. If Blizzard anounced a sequel for a different franchise, like Warcraft, would you be happier or sadder? What game did you really want Blizzard to announce?Cilindro
I was really hoping for a Diablo style game but set in the Starcraft universe. So you play as a marine with upgradeable body armour and assault rifles and instead of a clickfest with swords, it's a clickfest with guns and grenades and such.
I think that would've been awesome!
The only Blizzard sequel that I want to see is a new The Lost Vikings game.
I'm rather sick of their three franchises. I've played Starcraft, Warcraft 3, Diablo 2 and WoW and none of those games held my attention for very long - they all just seem rather repetitive and dull.
There are many companies who beat dead horses or milk franchises, but Blizzard shouldn't be criticised for it because they haven't been churning out sequels year after year like those companies.
Blizzard has made only one modern update to each of their series so far. Starcraft 2 is the update to the 10 year old Starcraft, Diablo III is the update to the 2D Diablo II, and Warcraft III was the update to the 2D Warcraft games. So how could Blizzard be criticised for beating dead horses or milking? Why complain they're not doing new IPs when they only made one real sequel per franchise?
I don't see Diablo XIII, a Starcraft VIII, or a bunch of spin-offs like Warcraft Tactics, etc., so I don't think it's fair to criticise them. They should be commended for making great games that last up to five to ten years and still going strong! Starcraft 2 and Diablo III will give them another five to ten years...then maybe we'll see a new IP.
Well...yeah.Since Baldurs Gate: Dark Alliance 2 was the only really outstanding "game like Diablo" in a looong time (others had been good, but bringing just the BGDA-Principies) I´m happy that it comes. At least for PC.If Baldurs Gate: DA whould be announced for 360 I whouldn´t care that much about Diablo 3 to be honest. On one side because I got no real gaming PC and prefer Consoles on the other because the predecisssors.Of course it depends on the final Games that come out,but in both cases there´s no real reason to be worried ;)

I understand what you are saying, but I thought this was like a "make a wish" type thread....

That's a good idea...I should invest in Blizzard stocks before Wrath of the Lich King and D3 come out!
