To paraphrase Obama, "You can put an analogue layout on a digital input pad, but it's still a digital pad". You just worked harder to get the same result from your games.

The thing also had a dead zone the size of Central Park, so changing to an opposite direction in a hurry was out of the question. The only reasons I see to have had one was to show off that you could play with a handicap and because Nintendo told you that you had to have one.

In case you forgot what it looks like:

The max was actually my favorite NES controller. I never used the sliding thumb pad, though, just the black ring around it.

The two turbo buttons were the main point of the NES Max.

This controller (and the NES Advantage too) was a godsend when I played Life Force.

Dude, the NES Max was the best. Don't use the red sliding circle thing in the middle, use the black around it and it was actually very responsive. I beat most games with that controller and i rarely used turbo.

Heheh the turbo buttons. Then again, for people like me and my siblings who didn't have one, we trained our fingers to move lightning fast, similating turbo with our index fingers and thumbs for games like Track and Field. 8-bit training at it's best! God bless.

i used that one all the time! absolutely essential for games where you could shoot endless bullets, like Guardian Legend.

I never liked the advantage mostly because I was never big on joysticks. I grew up starting with the control pads like on the original NES controllers. It even took me awhile to get used to analog sticks like on the N64 and Sony controllers.

Yes. :) A lot of people loved gimmick controllers, and though it's not as big on use as it used to be, the turbo button was used by a lot of gamers.
