So it seems that Brian Fargo and his team are reviving the classic Wastelands rpg (Fallout predecessor), and what's even more interesting, is that it's going to be player funded - nu publishers.

What do you think about this, skip the middle man, idea?

There is nothing to think about. If you want a genuine, tactical, demanding RPG with a great story and no day 1 DLCs, streamlining and homogenisation just visit the Wasteland 2 Kickstarter page and support. Why do this? The developers of Wasteland 2 offer the ultimate answer, as they say that "this could help bring back an entire genre of RPGs.The power of the Indie scene continues and we see this as a part of a bigger trend of bringing control back to the developers". (meaning: take it away from the greedy corporate publishers, that ruin our games)

I like it that Kickstarter has been able to help some of these indie developers get the funding they need. And not having a publisher controlling the type of game you're making is always going to be a plus.

That's the point. And for those of you that never heard about Wasteland. Without Wasteland there would be no Fallout, Fallout 2, Fallout 3 or Fallout: New Vegas.

Already donated my money to the project. What's even more amazong is this article taken from RPGcodex.com: Carrying on from this thread (and as suggested by this thread), the Codex is aiming to raise $5,000 for the Wasteland 2 KickStarter currently being run by inXile. If successful, this will score us an in-game statue (we're going for the Codex Troll as created by MCA, shown above) and a Codexian-based location. Brain Fargo, CEO of inXile has confirmed that he is willing to work something out for us if we can raise the cash: If your group puts 5k together I will find a way to make sure there is a shrine for a codex shrine or something else if you have a clever idea. I'm am quite flexible and I know at the end of the day I really want groups like yourselves to be happy with this game. UPDATE (March 15): Only $1k left to go. Tally is now on the right side of the front-page, where hot topics used to be

It's already over 1 million...in a little over 24 hours!!! That's a statement for you big publishers! I hope it goes up to 10 million by April 17.

BTW, there is another possibly big announcement about a great RPG classic of old coming soon: www.baldursgate.com

Can't wait...

This is pretty impressive! I'm suprised there isn't more buzz around this place.

Most other gaming forum sites is going off the hook over this and DF's project.

I haven't even seen a news article on this page about this project. Where is the love, man?

It's ironic that the original Fallout was created in the first place because a company with a focus on money bought the Wasteland rights and the original developers didn't have any say on the next installments and took it in a completely different direction for mass appeal....now, the reverse is happening. I guess things sometimes are of a circular nature.

I wish them luck, hopefully this will turn out great. With no big name publisher to get in the way, they can take some interesting risks.

As someone said....things like Kickstarted are making it possible for adventure games and pure RPGs from well respected developers to happen again.
