I'm curious what others' feelings are on this game. I haven't played the first one and thought I'd pick this one up. To be very honest, I'm kind of bored. I am a little over 2 hours in and I can't seem to find the satisfactory in this game. Maybe I haven't given it enough time. The hacking is cool, but almost seems bland and not needed a lot of the time; I feel I can just silently take enemies down and work my way towards the objective. I also think I'm confused how this game plays. Is it a stealth game? I find the experience bland so far and somewhat.... boring. There is no strategy, tactics or skill needed; just run through the level and reach the objective. Does anyone else feel this way? Is it just me and I need to spend more time on it, figuring out how this game plays? Let me know your thoughts on the game. I'm very curious, because there is something in me that wants to find the enjoyment in the game.

Also, it feels almost like a less combat heavy GTA to me. Ehh, idk what to think. Fill me in on your thoughts, please.

I'm at a similar point to you, though oddly enough I actually played/enjoyed Watch Dogs 1. I really like the stealth in WD1, it reminded me of Splintercell and was quite challenging with good AI.

this feels very different and nothing in the game is grabbing me so far. I don't like the tone. WD1's tone was like vanilla ice cream, this is like a strong fruity flavor that I don't like. Gameplay feels streamlined compared to WD1. but, I need to play more, get more skills etc. I've heard the emergent multiplayer stuff is really good but haven't played long enough to run into it much.

@Savage_Doom: must admit i don't think i've seen a single thread on the game on any forum on gs. i think a lot were put off after the first game didn't turn out (understatement) as advertised

I haven't gotten around to picking it up yet myself. I did enjoy the first game and from what I've seen this one seems to have improved upon it pretty well so I'd like to get it eventually. Unfortunately there's just too many games out there right now that I'd like to get to first.

Good responses, thanks. Ya, I'll probably hold off on playing this while I beat some other games, namely The Division, Deus Ex and Hitman.

just downloaded it last night on a whim (got my Christmas bonus from my job, yay!) and spent about an hour or two, I really like it. Not long enough to really get a good feel for it, but thus far it seems like it has a good amount of polish.

Not sure about the driving mechanics, but that might be because I am playing on PC (driving has always been a challenge in games with mouse and keyboard).

Fun stuff, though. San Francisco is not my home town but you could call me a local, it's nice seeing it portrayed maybe not accurately but true-to-type?

I feel very similar. I actually didn't like Watch_Dogs 1 initially but somehow I turned a corner and really enjoyed it. Your comment about the vanilla ice cream vs. the strong fruity flavors is a great explanation regarding the characters and tone of the game. I wonder if growing up in Chicago made me love the first one for the setting (world) and this one being in San Francisco made all the editors/reviewers love this one. In WD1 I was able to use bombs and guns and in WD2 you can only use the drones and hacking. I know, I know if I want a game where I can run/drive around and use guns I should play GTA but for whatever reason I just couldn't get into WD2.

I finished it, and enjoyed it overall. It's certainly not a GOTY contender (well not for me anyway), but I had fun with it.

Yeah I've spent a few hours with it now, it's pretty fun.

I'm really loving the social commentary, there's some good poking-of-fun at the "Church" of Scientology in the game and some missions related to it, it's a lot of fun lol. I'm really liking the characters, too, which is surprising because I thought I would hate them. Wrench is hilarious.

I think it was a bit of an overcorrection from the first game. The first had such a serious tone about it, and this one tends to be too colorful and comical at times. I don't think it really met a balance. Someone once said they "Saint's Row 3'd it" and that's a pretty accurate assessment.

I enjoyed the game for the most part, but I tend to think a lot of the actual challenge was taken out thanks to the drones. If you got them leveled up enough, you could actually take out squads of enemies without even setting foot in a restricted area. Of course, the game's only as challenging as you make it. You could just not use the drones, but why do that when they're right there?

The biggest problem I had with the game is the ending. It felt very unsatisfying and you were even deprived of a true boss fight. It just felt to me that they didn't really know how to end it, so they just went "Here you go" and rolled credits.

If they make a third, I hope they bring some of the seriousness back, because Watch Dogs 2 didn't feel grounded at all. Kinda hard to get lost in the whole "Big Brother is watching" cyber thriller theme when everyone's wearing colorful costumes.

Lol yeah, those Scientology-mocking missions were awesome.

I beat the game last night. It feels shorter than the first game to me. I enjoyed it enough though. I liked that hacking played a bigger role than in the first one. The game takes itself less seriously than the first one with all the memes, Dedsec artwork, and funny side missions, which I welcome. Speaking of Dedsec, I'm glad we got more background on them. I was curious about them in the first game.

Marcus feels less robotic than Aiden. I liked the variety of clothing to purchase too. The new gadgets were cool enough, but I still preferred guns blazing over going in with a RC car every time.

The driving is a little too loose, while the driving in the first game felt too stiff. However, I'll take the former over the latter.

I only used a few weapons (mostly used the Goodbye World Shotgun and AA-12). Combat is strictly close quarters. I don't know why the game bothers having sniper rifles. Stealth is only fun if you don't f*ck up. If a guard spots you, every other guard magically knows you're there despite the guard spotting you not calling you out on radio. I sometimes skipped stealth altogether and just let my shotgun do the talking. I hate hive mind AI in games.

I also miss crafting jam coms hacks. I used those more than grenades in the first game. :P

I also don't like having to get "key data" to access more advanced upgrades. Just feels like a chore. Another gripe is just the sheer amount of enemies the game throws at you sometimes, resulting in some frustrating deaths. I hate dying in games honestly; it's a huge immersion breaker for me.

Compared to the first one, I guess it's on par. Its pros and cons kinda cancel each other out.

OMG I just remembered I upgraded my drones to drop bombs or whatever and then I forgot I had that ability. O_O

I'm so used to just going in with a gun, LOL.

I agree. The characters in this one are a huge improvement over the masses of drywall in the first one, minus Jordi. Jordi should have been the main character in WD1.

@gamerguru100: is it fun dropping bombs (hurr hurr...) on people? I've been thinking of doing that, but I'm trying to keep in non-lethal...but non-lethal is so hard, the damn people keep waking up! If they didn't wake up it'd be a totally viable way to play. But as it is, they're only asleep for like 30 seconds so, sadly....I need to put them to sleep permanently.

Maybe I will go the bomb route...

I imagine it is fun. :P I just forgot that I had the ability and still run around with a shotgun.
