Wow that's horrible for next gen! For them not to be able to achieve 60 fps consistent is quit sad. It's not like we are trying to achieve PC performance which averages 90-120 fps. My expectations are atleast half of what the average PC can produce. As it stands I feel like I may have wasted $400 on my PS4 preorder. I really hope that they manage to get some games running at 60 fps. So far 30 fps is all I'm hearing. Well I guess that means that Xbox One is going to struggle to get 30 fps? I would have rather paid 600$ for a PS4 with a better GPU. RimacBugatti
Forza 5 on the Xbox One will run at 60 fps. That has been confirmed.Â

Oh and by the way...60fps in full 1080p will not mean much unless you have an HDTV with a high refresh rate. The type of refresh rate found on more higher end TV's.
FPS only matters when you're playing multiplayer or a game that requires quick contextual imputs like NBA 2k games or Fifa series or platformers like Mario Galaxy. In a single player open world game 30 fps is more than fine and lets developers spruce up the graphics more.

achieving 60fps at 1080p in one game and 60fps at 1080p in another isn't the same task. And 60fps at 1080p in and of itself tells you comparatively little about system performance.
A game like Forza with its racetrack and cars will stress a gpu less than a game like Watch Dogs which has cars and streets but also tons of people walking around. Secondly, there is the issue of more complex effects and higher detailed textures, which will do far more to make a game pretty than the 30fps Watch Dogs might be "missing."
Just as a modern example, consider vanilla Skyrim. You can run that at 1080p, 60fps with even a moderate gaming rig - but it still looks like crap because the textures are garbage, the meshes are blocky and the lighting sucks. Now mod your skyrim - start with an ENB for more complex effects (SSAO, bloom, DOF, etc). Then reskin the entire game with higher rez textures (not that crappy official texture pack - get some from the mod community). Then get yourself a lighting overhaul mod to fix bethesda's shoddy work. Grab yourself a skin texture like Zonzai's Real Skin that's modeled from the skin of real people, with its pores and skin dimples - incredible detail. Now spruce up the landscape with a flora overhaul that takes the flat ground textures and covers them with waving foliage of various types (and this is gonna tax your gpu like crazy, all those plants and grasses blowing in the wind casting shadows). Good luck running the game at 1080p and 60fps now, but I guarantee you've just taken the very same game and made it look next gen by sacrificing frame rate. A lot of people willing to take that hit because losing 15-30fps down to 30fps or so is just worth it for these changes.
Also, and maybe more importantly, if you're looking for cutting edge graphics and buying consoles, you're doing it wrong.
30fps is fine if it's constant and without screen tearing. This should be expected for consoles, especially for launch games.
