Ok, I'm a big big fan of western movies (especially Sergio Leone's) and western games. I'm trying to play all the western-themed games out there (which, unfortunately are just a fistful ;) ).

The ones I played/I'm playing so far:

- Outlaws (cl@ssic)
- Desperados (decent but buggy)
- Red Dead Revolver (great)
- Gun (very good)
- Dead Man's Hand (bad)
- Call of Juarez (great)
- Western Outlaw (horrible)
- Sunset Riders (arcade-great)

Do you know of any other I missed (apart from Desperados 2, which I'll get sooner or later)?

Darkwatch is a horror/western game that is about average. It deals with vampires, spirits and all that. The shooting is meh but the Melee feels pretty good.

Wow, this is weird. I was thinking the same exact thing today

Some kind of collective conciousness bubble has popped up and we're thinking of westerns now. Lol.

Anyways, I've been waiting for a perfect western to come out for the Pc. I want it to be a FPS, with a realistic six shooter. Gun fights would be quick and brutal and after six shots you'd have to be under cover and it'd take a while to reload. I think it would be great if it was set in a central town and you as the main character could go on a path to become a lawful sherrif, outlaw, and a run of the mill cattle farmer. Shooting wouldn't be a central part of the game, but always in the back of your mind since it was the old west. At some points in the game you might spend more time tooling around the Salon playing poker or trying to decide how to spend your money to buy supplies for a trip you're taking to the next town.

You've played almost all of them that are any good. I've played only three, Red Dead Revolver, Call of Juarez, and Gun and all were really good.

I know a Red Dead Revolver 2 is in the works.

I'd like to play a Western MMO. The server would have a ton a tiny upstart towns. When you create your character you'd pick the profession path you'd like to go down(farmer, outlaw, sherrif, blacksmith, store owner, bartender, etc) and you'd be put into a random town that didn't have a lot of X profession yet. Traveling to other towns would be a dangerous journey and would actually take a long time. Outlaw type characters would rely on weapons, but a store owner type characters game would be different in that he would deal with other store owners in other towns and the cattle ranchers and barter with them, make alliances, etc. You play the game as a FPS if you like, or take a more political and relationship driven route. Store owners could hire a local gunman to help deliver a shipment. All the varied professions in one town would all have to work together to help each other thrive. And the people who choose to be outlaws, driven by wanton greed, would have a tougher game to play, but it'd make for a lot of fun, for them, and for the element of chance and danger it would add to situations.

Level wise I'm not sure what I'd like. I know for a fact it wouldn't work to have the gunslingers have to slay X of black bears. I am also not sure how a more political character would level up. Maybe levels aren't needed per se, but since cash and gold have always been #1 The more money you collect in the game the higher status you'd have.

I also don't know how a game like this would handle Native Americans. It's a tricky issue.

A poker mini-game and in-game drunkeness would be a must for role playin in the salons.

Can anyone help me flesh this out. What would make a Western MMO work best? Add some ideas and tell me which ones wouldn't be worth anything.

I opened to this thread to post exactly that. I did only rent the game, but I enjoyed it very much. It is not a classic western and it has a somewhat gothic feel to it, but it is a western nonetheless. I suggest you check up on a review of it to get a greater feel of the content of Darkwatch. I for one reccomend it.

Gosh, man, we must to be the same person in two different dimension! We must never make physical contact, else we'd rip the timespace continuum inside out!!

A western-themed game like you said would make my day, also a western GTA thing would be greatness. Same goes for all the other splendid ideas you guys posted. Too bad we think they're good and not those rich 'middle-east-war-games-sell!' producers. They should make some western games with Clint Eastwood, Eli Wallace and Lee Van Cleef for goodness sake!

Darkwatch I've read about before, but I can't find it. Speaking of which, I'm also curious about Samurai Western, though $39.90 for a game that scored 5.3 is too much.

I seem to recall playing an adventure game with a western theme on the PSone, Silverload? I think that was the name. Tried that one?
