as much of a halo fan as i am. 3 dissapointed in story and initally for multiplayer. I grew to hate some of the maps but the dlc is great. still the campaign could have been fleshed out. MS made them makea game accesible to stupid new fans who just want to be part of hype and play it for a little on launch. anyways lots of dissapointing games. mgs2 pissed me off. Its a freaking japanese game. Sales shouldn't hurt a game development mentality. They changed the story so they won't dissapoint the US because of the twin tower incident. The result was some great cinematics and a convulted story. More of the sequences made sense. Fortune and Vamp played a bigger role in the story too:(.

God when is Gamespot going to listen to us and create a poll forum where if you set your posts per page to 40... you'll see every favorite thread anyone has ever though of on the first page.
How about GTA4. It's been heavily over-hyped and overrated. Gamespot even gave it a ten. This game shows little originality or innovation from SA and has fewer vehicles. The controls are clunky, the vehicle handling is too loose, there are occasional graphic glitches, and one of the early missions has a bug that prohibits you from proceding with the story missions. It seems like the developers came up with a few good ideas and then tried to incorporate them into a poor clone of Saints Row. That this game actually got a ten is an outrage.
Aside from the awfully overhyped Zelda-Series (almost all had been IMO medicore to ok,not more) I´d say Tomb Raider.It´s not as hyped as it was once anymore,but since I couldn´t stand any of the parts until TR:Legend because they have been just plain boring for me...even more boring then Half-Life 2 which had been hyped like crazy too but totally lost one the gameplay-side for me.I gave up after 4h of actually nothing happend.
It isn't out yet, but Killzone 2. Why is this such a hyped title? The original wasn't a killer app and this title has been delayed and delayed every since the first trailer which might as well have been CG. There also has been barely any solid coverage of this dodgy title; I can't understand why people are so psyched for this game. Though I do get the hype for Resistance 2. That game makes me want to own a PS3. :o

BioShock is pretty much among the worst for overhype. Ken Levine himself was pretty much calling it the second coming of Jesus and promising an ass load of things that never made it into the final version. One serious disappointment.

I have to disagree. I enjoyed that game. Good graphics, decent action and I really liked HK47. Granted, someof the dialogue could have been better, but overall, I thought it was a decent game.

In what way? I think they are not over-hyped and not "mediocre" as you claim.
The Gameplay bored me out quicker then most Action-Adventures.That´s why.Some of the 2D-Parts had been really good,but overall the 3D-Parts had been so underwhelming or at least so serious faults that they killed the gameplay.Maybe they should have changed the system a bit,use a RPG-based EXP-System or something that makes the game more challenging.Those pre-school-puzzles shure don´t.They had all their good sides and none of them had been totally bad (exept the CD-i ones of course) but none of them had been really outstading,was really motivating or did anything that wasn´t done by ony other game better.Exept the big name on the cover.That´s why they´re overhyped.Whitout the name no one whould remember OoT,or WW (which was almost killed by the awful sailing alone...even if I liked the part´s basics) or any other part of the series,of that I´m shure.

So if you didn't rread the previews and just played the game you would have enjoyed it? I didn't really know much about the game aside from some gameplay trailers and when I was watching my friend play it it seemed really good.
army of two and assassins creed. assassins creed was soooooooo overhyped and it turned out to be a massive disappointment, well for me anyway. (sold it on ebay within a week)

I don't know. The game itself is pretty shallow and monotonous and reuses the same three encounters (splicers, bots and big daddies) for the entire game while not offering any real "choice" for the player. I can say that if it I wasn't hyped into thinking it was going to be "System Shock 2 x10" and just played the game normally, I might have enjoyed it more... but who knows, I tried to play the game again recently and just couldn't get back into it because of the boring nature of the combat, hacking and empty progression of the "soulless" story.
I don't think the point of this thread is to start naming all halo's and GTA's. Those games are hyped for a reason, and they always turn out to be great games (unless you've got the standard that half life 2 equals an OK game, anything below it sucks.). The point is more to name the Brute forces out there which promised a lot, and end up being worse than some budget games. I think Lair is a pretty good example as well. Then again that's another case of fanboys going at everything with good graphics.
