I understand that some get reworked quite a bit. I just hooked up my old PS2 to my 60" HDTV expecting it to look like utter crap, although, to my surprise, it didn't look absolutely horrible. It was in 4:3 and hooked up with component cables.

While, sure I would love to have a game with somewhat crisper graphics and filling up the screen, but I was curious to hear from everyone whether it's worth spending $39 + for a game already owned and played by the individual or not.

Never jumped into Metal Gear Solid HD collection, but I still have all the PS2 titles. Same goes for Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy X.

I did cave for Zelda Windwaker, but that seemed to be reworked more than your average HD title.

So does an HD upgrade warrant a second purchase, or is it better to play the game on the shelf again?

Is it just an excuse to relive the title again? Is it worth the cash for that reason to you?

If a HD remake of a favourite game of mine is released, I definitely buy them. If done properly, it's kinda like playing it for the first time in some cases. The Halo Anniversary remake is a good example. The graphics gave it a new life I think.

Depends upon the quality of the upgrade, and if any extras are included.

I was very disappointed in the Silent Hill hd, because imo it was rather mediocre(not the games themselves the hd upgrade), where something like Wind Waker was a good upgrade with actual added functionality. I also really liked the MGS collection mainly because it is my favorite series, and I could now play Peace Walker on 46" tv, and with my Stereo system that I spent at least about $2,000 on all together. I also have the Beyond Good and Evil HD remake, but I can't judge it because I never really played it before, though I found I do love the game it is awesome.

I believe that is all of the hd remakes that I have.Yeah only 4(there might be a couple I'm forgetting about though).

I do plan on getting the FFX/FFX-2 HD Remake coming this march though.

@t1striker: Yeah, I was debating on picking up Kingdom Hearts and FFX. To be honest, I only got through half of both of them. Life ended up getting in the way. Now I'm saying to myself, "Should I play these titles now, or cough up the cash and play them in full HD?" (SCREW MY MORTGAGE)

@SpiderLuke:

I never wanted to play Kingdom Hearts myself mainly because I really don't like Disney characters, and Final Fantasy characters mixing with Disney characters just sounds ridiculous to me.

What I'm saying(or asking) is what is so appealing about Kingdom Hearts?

They're justified when work is put into them. I can think of lots of games i'd love to see get a faithful remastering.

For the most part, yes. It's 2 or more games offered at a nice discount and they won't look muddy and jagged on an HDTV. Not to mention some of the benefits the good HD remakes offer (improved frame-rate, extra content, etc.) Bad HD collections exist, yes, but it's just a matter of doing your research before you purchase them.

When you get 3 in 1 and wait till they're 19.99 and haven't played them before yeah they're worth it.

@SpiderLuke: I would definitely recommend picking up the Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD Remix. If you still own it on PS2, then you know how the camera controls with the L2 and R2 buttons... which is frankly awful. In the HD Remix, they've fixed the camera movement by setting the right analog stick to control it. Also, it's the Final Mix version of KH1, which I had never played.

As for the Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remakes, I don't plan on getting them for my PS3, but I do plan on getting them for the Vita. I just have a feeling that FFX on the Vita will be absolutely amazing!

If you like the game, sure. God of War saga and Budokai 3 HD remakes are amazing and look really good in hd.

If it's a well done port then, yes, I definitely think it's worth it. The God of War Collection and the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection are excellent examples of HD ports that give the games a modern feel and look.

It depends... If its a remake done by SquareEnix then no, but any other games that I enjoy I'd usually pick them up.

@t1striker: I never played much enough to figure out how I really felt about it. I think I'm trying to get into it. It may be over hyped but I'm trying to test it so I could see if I'm missing something everyone is seeing.

@locus-solus: past the first game. Last year I want to say, I picked up the collection with 1-3 and the PSP ports to HD for $19.99. For so many games I never played it was justified for me. Very tempted to get KH and FFX. Then the frugal voice tries to say "Donttt givvve innnn." Lol. I just bought a condo and I'm getting married soon, so a part of me is trying to watch my money. Another part of me feels like I should be putting the money towards newer games on my ps4. I probably would have good time with the old games, but it still means I bought it twice. I'd prefer the remixes to be cheaper before buying. (Most are I think.) Very on the fence. Lol

Lazy port; not really.

Well-thought-out port (i.e. Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary); sure.

I love it when they make good HD remakes of old games I didn't get around playing in my younger days, but I don't think I'll ever re-purchase games I already own in classic form, at least not now.

Depends on the Series.

I will but FFX-X2 because It is my favourite Final Fantasy and it is getting a massive upgrade and isn't just "better graphics"

Otherwise I wouldn't buy them unless I never gave the series a shot when I was younger eg: Sly cooper 1-3 for 19.99. Never played them

@locus-solus: Oh I played the first two now, and am just starting the third one. It was pretty amazing. I have been backlogged with games my whole life. lol. Ever since college started and then even after I graduated, work and the road to marriage never gave me much more free time either. But yeah, yadda yadda, blah, blah, blah. lol

Zone of the Enders HD Collection is worth the money if you buy the PS3 version and download the 1080p/60fps patch.

Here are other HD Remixes that are worth getting that I have played and own a copy of:

  • Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD Remix
  • Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary Edition
  • Devil May Cry HD Collection

It's only really worth buying an HD remix/remakes is if it's a favorite game or perhaps a game that you missed out during the original run.

I don't mind them. Sometimes they offer a more viable alternative than buying all the old games individually.

See I've gotten through maybe a quarter of Kingdom Hearts on PS2. I probably could start it over in HD. I spent a lot of time so far, but I probably wouldn't spend as much time doing what I did a second time. Again, though, I just picked it up again to continue it after 10 years of not playing it.

@locus-solus: Lol, shelves and shelves worth of games. Too many to name. Let's put it into perspective; I just beat the first Fable about 5 months ago after having it for a decade. I think on top of life I have too many games. I almost get ADD-ish where I play a certain amount and don't come back to them until, say, ten years later lol. It's not always like that. I'm getting a little better since I'm older now and the games aren't as frequent now that it's more from my money and not my parents' from when I was a child. Although, PSplus is like a parent spoiling me again too, so I might have problems there. haha

I still hope there will be a Time Spliiters and a NFS: Underground HD mix.
