What chance will RE5 have of winning the Game of the year in 2009?

If you look at the previous winners, all pretty much are exclusives.

2007=Super Mario Galaxy

2006=I think it was Gears of War

2005=Can't remember

2004=RE4

And even in 2008 i don't want to jinx it but it looks like MGS4 is going to win the Game of the year award (at least the fans voting award), and again its exclusive to the PS3. GTA IV and Fallout 3 both had pretty even share of votes, but MGS4 stands out. Now with the line up in 2000 RE5 stands tall above alot ofthe other games.

2009;

- Final Fantasy 13 (which is now multi)

- GT5 (ps3)

- Killzone 2 (ps3)

- RE5 (multi)

- Fight Night Round 4 (multi)

- The Godfather 2 (multi)

- Halo Wars (xbox 360)

- Halo Recon (xbox 360)

RE4 didn't come out in '04.

RE5 can probably win GOTY, but obviously none of us have played it so we have no idea if it will be good enough for the GOTY.

And I didnt know Gamespot gave WoW GOTY over Half Life 2 and San Andreas. wow indeed.

Resident Evil 5 has zero chance of winning 2009 GOTY and it has nothing to with it being multiplatform. It's because it's a very "safe" sequel and there's nothing wrong with that, but there will probably be more relevant and flat-out better games coming out next year.UpInFlames

Well that's easy since Killzone 1 was garbage! :P

RE5 mayb still win GOTY if it offers a lot of memorable moments a la MGS4. Yeah, it's a safe sequel but if they could make something as intense as RE4 on a last gen platform, imagine the surprises they have in store for us. :)

GameSpot sure loves them Burnouts - even since the series went downhill with Revenge. But Takedown was a truly superb arcade racer. It beating Halo 2 is not an issue for me...but Ninja Gaiden came out that year...

I never had a problem with GameSpot giving World of Warcraft the GOTY nod even though I don't give a crap about MMO's. In retrospect, it was a rather visionary move considering what World of Warcraft came to be in the past 4 years.

RE5 has as much of a chance as RE4 did. But I didn't think RE5 is as revolutionary as RE4 nor had as much competitionDevouring_One

Half true.... look at MGS4 - released in June, 12th and on Game Spot its winning;

- best action

- best graphics tech

- best moment

- best story

- any prob game of the year

Now that RE 4 is out, RE 5 doesn't look it's doing anything new or interesting worth of being known as Game of the Year. Co-op zombie shooter game? Left 4 Dead does it better, for the experience. More scary 3rd person horror game? Dead Space. Notice how very few people thought of putting Gears of War 2 as GOTY? Because it didn't do anything new other than a Horde mode. It's going to have do something insanely crazy for people to think it's worthy of GOTY material. digi_matrix

RE games have the advantage of being scary. The scarier they are the better/newer so it doesn't matter if the gameplay is technically similar as long as it's scarier.
