Ok so, right about now I'm up to the
Iifa tree, and I'm fighting all these monsters, and Kujas just gangsta trippin all over the place
but I don't really see how people say its the best in the series ? ( well the IX fanboys/girls anyways ), I allways thought 8,12 and 13 where the best but does this version of final fantasy pick up, and just blow you away or am I wasting my time, ( have all the best parts already happened ), because I have other games in my backlog like Vagrant Story and Dark Cloud 2.

I suggest you play Vagrant Story first. It's alot better imo over ff9.

I like how your spoiler had the words "gangsta trippin" in it.

But as far as FF9, meh. Final Fantasy 7 was just so much better.

It was the last Final Fantasy before they basically just started making something else entirely and throwing chocobos in it and calling it Final Fantasy. I've become rather convinced that at this point they are just taking whatever RPG idea they have and throwing enough references in it so that they can call it Final Fantasy in order to boost sales with the name recognition.

I love FFIX. I was waiting forever for it to be released on the PSN, and now I've started my fourth play through. It's my favorite game in the series with seven and ten as close seconds. The characters, the storyline, the music... everything is wonderful.

I feel it has it's unique charms, which no other FF game has. Deffo carry on playing it. I know the story picks up then drops, but overall it's a solid 8.5 or 9/10 game. It's not my favourite in the series, but still, it's cool.

Its has more of an NES and SNES final fantasy feel to it so for the people that loved those games really enjoy IX, myself being one of them. Since you enjoy VIII, XII and XIII I would say that you probably wont enjoy IX as much. I would still suggest you play through it though.

I think people really liked that after the futuristic setting of FF6, 7, and 8, they went back to the fantasy setting. I didn;t care much for the game at the time, but thinking back now, it has its moments.

The card system was a bit less fun, but other than that it's pretty much a complete victory over XIII. Dark Chronicle btw is an amazing game, you're bound to love it. It's in my alltime top 10 anyway.

I always liked final fantasy 9 thought it went back to what made me like the series knights and castles all of that stuff. I liked a few of the characters in the game vivi was one of my favorite characters of the game. I know this game gets a bad rap I think it is a good game it is not the best but I like it.

It's a really good game and I enjoyed it but I liked the more recent ones better. My top 5 Final Fantasy games are:
 • Final Fantasy XIII
 • Final Fantasy X
 • Final Fantasy XII
 • Final Fantasy VIII
 • Final Fantasy IX

IX was my favorite of the PSX era, and my fourth favorite over all (FF IV, FF VI, and FF XII in that order before).

The main thing that made me like IX more then most of the others is actually a general issue I have with a number of RPGs. I don't like it when the game tries to give your characters unique personalities, and then doesn't follow that up in the gameplay. For example, in FF VIII, it really doesn't matter which character has what spells and GFs equiped/junctioned. Gameplay-wise all your characters are basically the same. Yeah, GFs acclimate to characters the longer you use them, but you could have chosen anyone to use the GFs at the beginning with no loss of ability, and with some grinding you can re-acclimate different GFs with ither characters.

In IX all your characters have abilities that are unique to them. It adds a gameplay stratagy dynamic on top of the RPG story elements. I personally feel it makes for a more complete experience when your RPG characters have abilities that back up their personalities.

FFIX is a very good game that has it's charm, and I actually kinda liked the card game in IX more than VIII.

FFIX is my fourth favorite FF, right behind VI, VII, and X.

Heh

I wasn't counting FF Tactics in my list because that's not a fair fight ;)

I still feel FF Tactics was the best game released in 1998..and considering how many awesome games were released that year...that's saying something. (Game Informer had a decent article recently on the awesome that was 1998)

Crap I would agree on final fantasy II the actually original game I did not like the battle system at all it just did not feel right to me. I could never get into it. Final fantasy six is and always will be my favorite final fantasy of all time. I played that game so many times on the snes I had all of the spells, armour, swords you name it. I would have to say final fantasy 4,6,7,9, and ten where the games I spent too much time playing. With final fantasy 9 I liked the how you could combine weapons at the shop and make a better weapon that idea was cool to me.

FFIX was extremely boring and by the numbers. This decidedly vanilla, uninspired game was the ultra-conservative approach Square took in response to the purists who were put off by the more progressive FFVIII.

The only reason I even bothered to finish IX was because I paid my hard-earned money for it, and that's all.

Easily my favorite Final Fantasy on the Playstation, and possibly my favorite FF of all. Great characters, goofy story, just has such a charming world all in all. Never really takes itself too seriously, and by no means stop playing at Disc 2, there's still a lot more good to come. It was nice to havea protagonist like Zidane that is cocky, funny, and a little goofy instead of the brooding anti-social Squall, and the whiney Cloud Strife.

There is a lot more that happens during the disc three and four that really took the game into a deeper level when it comes to the city alexandria. I won't say anything about what happens don't want to spoil anything for anyone who has not played through disc two. I liked how zidane and steiner and them where always fighting. Kuja was a excellent villain for the game a mystery to you until a certain part of the game and he was one twisted dude. His song was one of my favorite parts of the game.

Final Fantasy IX is GREAT! Of course it was more conservative than FF VII or FF VIII and everything that came since, but it had a good story and very interesting characters. Vivi is SO funny!!!

Yes we do! It was the best FF on the PSOne. FFVII is a bit overrated and FFVIII is complete garbage. FFIX was the best of them all.

The more I play FFXIII, the more I dislike it. Granted, it has a very memorable soundtrack and impressive viausls, but the gameplay just doesn't feel right to me, even if it has elements that may make it a FF game.

In my mind, it is definitely the second worst FF game in history.

Final Fantasy IX is my favourite. It was also my first to play. I love the characters, story and the time of that game. It was set in such a wonderful world and had a hell of a lot of extras to find in it. Had me playing maybe 100+ hours. It also had a very emotional and good ending. Final Fantasy X is a close second to this for me

Admittedly, I haven't played a new FF game since FF X-2, so I can't say much about what's become of FF other than the gameplay impressions of others. From what I gather, the same thing happened with FFXIII that occurred with FFIX, fan backlash caused SE to go conservative again, which is a shame.

XIII was far from conservative. Actually, Final Fantasy I-IX mesh together into an era that has not been revisited since, save for a few elements here and there in X-2. It's an era I very much miss.

I don't mind developers tinkering with the formula. I'd like to give XII and XIII a try at some point. If the gameplay is strong, I'm generally willing to overlook many faults. Some of my favorite RPGs have some big time WTF moments.

There's been more than just "tinkering" lately. I just prefer my series to actually be series - it's to that extent at this point, really. It's been a decade since they've gone "by the numbers", a homecoming of sorts would do Final Fantasy a world of good, and the timing would be perfect with the whole retro movement that's going on now.

I do miss that era as well it was some of the best rpg moments I can remember. I cannot say what final fantasy 13 is like or how good the combat system is, but the one thing that really gets me is there are no towns no airships or anything like that. I wonder if square enix will ever go back to the roots of final fantasy and stop trying to go in the route they are going. It is not my style of rpg that I like at all. I would have to say of the final fantasy games that have come out during the 2000 era final fantasy 10 would have to be it. I wish square enix would stop hoarding final fantasy and kingdom hearts and do something new or start a new series or something. I do love final fantasy games but enough is enough for me. I think it should have stopped at ten and then create a brand new series, but what do I know.

It's probably my favourite in the series. It does lose steam plot-wise towards the end, although I think you could say the same thing about a few of the FF games. The battle system's nice and simple and fluid, and some of the characters are brilliant. Zidane, Steiner and Vivi are some of the most memorable characters in the series. Personally I'd rate it above the more loved VI and VII by a pretty long way. But that's the beauty of the series. Get people to give their top 5 FF games, and you're gonna get radically different lists each time.

7 is overated in my books, 9,10 and 6 are better, as far as ff9 is the 3rd best ff game in my books behind 6 and 10.
