Does that mean its like BF2 system where i can see how many people are playing, the ping, map and other stuff and choose which server i want?
Also is it like that for the PC only or both console and PC?
Thanks

dedicated server is typically a server that is operated by one person who is able to utilize all of the resoureces of the server. A dedicated server is more expensive than a VPS (Virtual Private Server) where multiple people divide the resoureces of one servier.
VPS ranges from 4 people per server, to what is more commonly referred to as a "shared server" -- the cheapest, in which case as many as 800 people may be using the resources of one server to run their stuff.
Basically a dedicated server is a computer that's dedicated somewhere to host the multiplayer game. This is better than using someone's private connection... because that persons private connection is no where near as good as a server for hosting online games. Usually if someone hosts a game with their private connection it gives them the advantage over people connecting to them. Not so with a dedicated server where everyone connects to the server and not someone's own connection.
Basically it's a much better way to game online. In PC titles dedicated servers are pretty much standard. Where as on consoles it's usually someone's private connection. That's why there was a huge outcry when Moder Warfare 2 on PC did not using dedicated servers.
BC2 only has dedicated servers on PC. It will be the better version of the game.
So will i be able to chose which server i want to connect to and see how many people are playing, Ping, and all that good stuff on the console or it that just on the PC?

thanks a lot
kind of cruddy really, innit?
I mean, that the consoles dont have dedicated, must be some sony or MS policy -.- If they had, the gamers on there would find out why it is so important to have dedicated servers in some games (and BFBC2 falls into that category).
Then again Im sure there would be an uproar from a certain group of console players when they have to figure out how to pick a server :P

PS3 has quite a few online games with dedicated servers. Warhawk less you chose and even host your PS3 as a dedicated server. You have the choice to select which Ping you want and everything. MAG is another one with dedicated server though it doesn't allow you to select the servers. The only reason BC2 doesnt have dedicated servers on the PS3 is because EA went the cheap route.
Xbox Live on the other hand cannot have dedicated servers. MS policy.
BTW, it seems like the PS3 version does have dedicated servers. I saw a press release touting dedicated servers on the PS3. I will ask our resident Battlefield nerd, rragnaar, about this. Check back later tonight.
