I'm confused because isnt prince of persia supposed to be realistic sorta

The trailer had me laughing. It pulled out every cliche there is in the book in terms of plot, the action looked dull and going cel shaded is so 2003 ;)
No seriously, I can deal with the art shift, but that trailer was pathetic.
im gonna give it a go.. Im not a fan of cell shading but if it suits the new tone it could work. I miss the idea of no Sands of time to slow down/ rewind- that was the best feature of the PoP series...
plus...why is he called a Prince if he is a vegabond??
It was never about realism; I mean...when has slowing down time or stopping it realistic?
Anyway, I'm more worried about the gameplay because I was disapointed by the last two PoP games; I really enjoyed The Sands of Time, yet I didn't like WW or TT.
doomsoth
i mean the graphics not gameplay
I really liked the previous Prince of Persia games, they're one of my favourite games. I loved the story in the Sands of Time, Warrioir Within was very good but not as good as the first one and then The Two Thrones with a fantastic gameplay and incridible boss fights.
Now, after I watched the E3 stage demo, for some reason I was a bit dissapointed by the ten minutes gameplay and by what the producer answered some questions. For example when he was asked if you're going to use other swords then the one you have, he said no the only weapons you have is your sword, and that didn't seem to be a Prince of Persia feauture.
Anyway, I'll be waiting for the new one to be released, and we'll see the reviews. All I wish is for the game to be as good as the previous ones. Let's hope so!!
I love how it looks, the art style suits the game and makes it look more like conceptual art.
The gameplay I saw from GS's E3 section looks great to. Definintely a purchase for me.
I really dont think we will be able to judge this one in terms of the last ones, because it lookslike they're rewriting the fundamental PoP formula. I say go for it. I love the new art style, gives it a sort of fantasy-ish look, and the combat seems excellent.
Although I was disappointed that you cant reverse time, but oh well.
I'm not let down by the new look of the game, looks amazing imo, I am worried about some of the other choices they are making in the game though. (one vs. one fights,no death ect..)wizdomWhat no death?

for all gameplay purposes, you do die. its just that instead of showing the prince getting impaled on spikes, it shows your partner saving you with a magic ability and plopping you down at the last checkpoint.

Not at the last checkpoint, thats only for platforming sections if you fall off a cliff or something. In combat enemies just regain their health again as a penelty and the Prince gets up and you carry on.[QUOTE="LoG-Sacrament"]What no death?[QUOTE="GodModeEnabled"][QUOTE="wizdom"]I'm not let down by the new look of the game, looks amazing imo, I am worried about some of the other choices they are making in the game though. "No, no ,no. That's not how it happened. Now where was I"?
Now, the sequence is seamless instead having to load a screen, choose Retry, and load the game back up.
I think the new cel-shaded look is absolutely stunning... one of the best looking video games that I've seen.
I was really impressed.
This looks like such a good game! The graphics lookhorrible in the pictures. The gameplay looks stunning.
I think the Prince looks good with his new gauntlet and sword. But why is he a Prince if he is a thief?
Maybe at the end when the Prince dispels Ahriman from the world the King of Persia makes the vagabond the Prince. D:
The new look makes me want to puke in the princes face. I never played sand of time, i got bored of Warrior Within after getting lost too many times and never completed it (that was before I discovered game FAQ's).TristanShand
WHAT???? G'ah! You can't be in this thread! Out! j/k :P
I hate this "badification" that they're doing to the Prince. No, I don't like the new look at all. That is NOT Prince of Persia. The Sands of Time was an absolutely beautiful game; it had a glow and warmth to it that helped bring the world to life. This new style looks completely generic. My hope was for that same style of visuals as TSoT given the next gen treatment (imagine the waterfalls or baths in full next gen PS3 glory, it would be utterly incredible) combined with the game mechanics of Assassin's Creed. Being able to choose your own path instead of a predetermined one, etc. I really thought they were going to use AC's engine, it seems perfect for this series. Eh, I'm heading off topic. Anyways, I feel that Ubisoft is really taking the series in the wrong artistic direction here, at least from what I've seen so far.
Check out my review on the Sands of Time if ya like. As it's one of my all-time favorite games ever, I can never expect this new one to be as good, but boy....I didn't expect it to look this bad.
Aesthetically, the game looks very unique and the art style is vastly different than the previous games.
What's disappointing is how shrill some people get when something different and potentially innovative happens to an established franchise. If all they want is a game that looks like Sands of Time, then play SOT. Why even clamor for a sequel or new installment if all they want is more of the same?
I personally like the new direction the series is headed in and what's been shown thus far looks very, very promising. (And I love SOT)

I'm half with you on that but things should keep a kind of 'world' that you identify it with. Kind of like how I like my rock bands to have a theme, so when I want to be taken to their place, I listen to them. It's the same with games, if I want to take part in the Metal Gear Universe I play a Metal Gear Solid game and I know what I'm going to see. They make sequels and they are very different and move the game forwards but still keep it's atmosphere that let's you identify it with that game.
Prince of Persia is like the Robbie Willaims and Madonna of gaming, constantly changing their music style to whatever they feel like at the time. I don't like Robbie Willaims and Madonna.

Exactly. I loved everything about the trailer. I came into this thread expecting heaps of praises for this game and upon seeing the actual reaction in this thread, I literally went WTF!!
Ubisoft is known for milking their games. Didnt they release three PoP games in three consecutive years? And I'm not even counting the PSP ports that were renamed so unsuspecting consumers will buy the same game again. My point is that now when they are finally bringing something new to the series, fans of the series aren't happy. :| I get that fans of the series wont like a total departure from the series' roots, but the game still looks fantastic. Besides, only the characters appear cell-shaded, the rest of the world has its' own unique style.
Now I'm not a PoP fan, I was one back when the series used to be 2D. infact, PoP 2 was my favorite game for years. But after playing SOT, I was sorely disappointed at Ubisoft for taking the franchise in that direction. The sword play wasn't anything special, and the story just didn't grip me. However, this new trailer and the gameplay demo has me really excited. The platforming looks fluid, and the combat seems like it would be a lot of fun. The visual effects are stunning which would look lame in a more realistic looking game.
I really feel for the fans of the series, I am sure they were expecting a beefed up next gen game, but to me, The PoP franchise needed something new and fresh; and this looks to be it.

Last gen's POP trilogy had a story arch that touched on various thematic concepts but also contained a focused purpose and direction in terms of narrative. The Prince from SOT was a different person in WW because of his experiences and he evolved even further in Two Thrones.
This new POP game has nothing to do with the previous trilogy; it's an entirely new game, which is why the art style and game play looks different.
They developers are clearly not looking to keep the look and feel of the previous games where by contrast Metal Gear has been telling a single story for more than a decade.
A bit off the topic but talking of Cel Shading. I like it best when it plays heavily on the dark, I'm not as keen on 3d cel shaded polygons in full light running about like In No More Heroes (although I did enjoy that game), It just doesn't look pretty to my eyes. However when cast in darkness and it becomes whole new story. This is a difficult opinion i'm trying to put across so i'm just going to slap on a few pictures to help me out.
To make it a fair test i'm going to stick on the masterpiece of Cel Shading, Eternal Sonata.
The above picture is Cel Shading in full light at it's best. It's pretty damn sweet actually. Almost made me delete this post and take it all back.
Holy cow that's awsome....... Urm..
Ah my faith restored! I just love Cel Shading with a darker twist. I know it's an Animai but loved the art of Ergo Proxy and always wanted to play a game in that syle. It's just conjures up such an atmosphere!
Embrace the Darkness! See why can't we have games like that! this is what i'm talking about. I want that! I don't want more of this:
Well on matters of the prince, I don't think he should be darkened up anymore then he has already. Just not that keen on this bright lights with black drawn edges cel shade thing going on at the moment.
It actually looks like most of the game will be in the dark after Ahriman is released. He's corrupting the land and making it darker, and the only light will be when Elika reaches something and turns the land to grass and stuff. Then you'll be on the road back to more darkness.Gamezster
Ahriman... where the heck do they bring the names from? :P
