How fun it is and how long it lasts.

And we'll never really understand why certain games are more fun than others. Also, everybody likes different things. So sites like this have rating systems that are ultimately completely stupid.

Firstly, it has to be fun.

Secondly, I really like if a game has a good story or touching moments. But that's not to say I demand games have this. Super Smash Bros. Brawl doesn't have touching moments, but I still love it!

The graphics must be adequate, not necessarily the best but at least, good!

Good gameplay!

A game could have amazing gameplay, stunning features... but what truly makes a good game for me is the Storyline, games like final fantasy, and Metal gear solid, games that make you think, games that make you care about what happens to the characters.

I agree totally. But for the story to really excel, it needs to be backed up by excellent gameplay, good graphics, and polish.

Good camera. The game needs to make it easy for you to do stuf which would be fairly simple in real life. I hate when bad game design (like bad camera) taints a game, I end up not finishing it because it gets too annoying.

The answer is simple. It's the same answer to "What does it take for a game to stand the test of time?" and the answer is: That it is fun and is well executed.

Story can be tricky though. Right now I'm playi ng DMC4 and the story is just there but doesn't add anything to the game. It doesn't really bother me either. You mentioned MGS games and some people find them to be fascinating while others just can't stand it and think it is fan fiction. Yet even those that don't like the story that much can still enjoy the games because of other reasons. So I think story isn't as important as we might think it is.

This is such an open ended question. For me personally, it really depends on the type of game your playing. Yes there are generalities like control, graphics, etc. that all games share but what makes a FPS good isn't going to be the same for an MMORPG for example. Speaking in general though, to me, emotion is what makes a game good.

I really like a game that has a consistent atmosphere. I know that's a weird way to put it, but games like ICO and Prince of Persia: the Sands of Time have nothing that jumps out at you and breaks the spell of the game. FFX was also like this, as was Ocarina of Time. The story and the gameplay and the graphics and the sound all complimented each other without having one thing that stuck out like a sore thumb all the time.

If a game can create a "mood" I like that.
