I played the first five as a kid. 1-3 got me into games really, 4 and 5 were good at the time but looking back a bit average. Angel of Darkness was terrible so I never bought it, and haven't played the legend games since, apart from one demo. I think they really changed the Tomb Raider formula after Chronicles, and although Legend and Anniversairy games are good, there not a thing on the first two.
I never finished the first three. I got stuck in one and just didnt finish the other two for whatever reason. Angel of Darkness was complete garbage. Legends and Anniversary were freaking great although short. Lara felt really smooth in the last two games but overall I dont think those people know what to do with Lara. Context sensitive sequences(press a button at the right time) are stupid. Theres no RPG elements. The stages are built entirely to be once throughs.
I love the climbing and acrobats and the movement but they just need something more.
The games themselves are cool, but the controlling is extremely terrible. I don't know why they haven't changed it yet! I actually thought Angel of Darkness was alright, but I got stuck on it simply because I couldn't jump from one pillar to the next in the Hall of Seasons because the controlling is such trash.
I actually never played the old TR games though, so I can't say anything about them. I did try the demo for the very first one...it was clunky and tough, but I was impressed with the graphics at the time.
I'm a fan of the series, and I love Lara, a certified gaming superstar. Out of the older games, my personal favorite is probably TR Chronicles. From the new ones, Anniversary was good. But TR Legend was simply fantastic.
The only Tomb Raider game I have actually completed is Legends and I absolutely loved it. I bought the first TR game when it was released and didn't like it at all (actually I didn't really give it a chance) since the controls were annoying. I just picked up Anniversary for the 360 so I'm going to play through that to get myself hyped for Underworld later on this year.
I liked some of the TR games, I think it was Tomb Raider 4 Last Revelation was the one I liked most up until I played Tomb Raider Legend, which now has become my favourite. Tomb Raider 1-3 were really forgettable,especially 2-3, I can't even tell them apart.
But we all know if the main character was a guy, the series would never have survived this long, shes just juicy and the kids love it.
I never really played them before Legend, because I was put off due to the controls. I played Legend and thought it was pretty good. I picked up Anniversary recently and its even better. It makes me want to check out the past ones for real and I definitely want Underworld.
Absolutely love them all even AOD but have to say Ive just given up on anniversary as its too hard and the controls arent so good. Hopefull Underworld will be more like legend when it comes out,
