Room for actual roleplaying. Worldbuilding that makes something that looks like sense. Room to play non-combat-oriented characters.

Make it more about survival. Present more/better environmental challenges that will make it so that every time you journey across the map, you feel like you just barely survived. Things like staying hydrated and fed. Like, make it so that if you go too long without water, your abilities slowly wane and you eventually pass out/die. Make it so that if you go too long without food, you slowly start to starve and your abilities wane and you eventually die.

Make dynamic weather patterns, things that make weather dangerous. Acid rain would be perfect, with all that nuclear fallout. Make healing wounds feel more manual, like if you break a limb you have to snap it back into place, but doing so will use certain supplies, stuff like that. It would make the game feel more about survival. I hate how in Fallout 3 (the only one I have played) the only challenge you ever had to face were enemies in the wasteland and that is what the developers called "survival". **** that. Don't just give us live enemies to fight and call it a day. Physical challenges need to be implemented as well. Like I said earlier...make it to where every journey across the wasteland makes you feel like you barely made it through alive. Make us afraid to go wander the wastes. Make it feel like a completely hostile environment.

Make the moral system less Black-and-White. Allow for a moral gray area.

Less stiff animations. More believable characters.

PLEASE stop making bullet sponge enemies. That is the most tedious shit ever. If I blast some asshole in the face three times with a combat shotgun, and he doesn't go down, then there is something wrong with your games' shooting mechanics.

Keep those subway tunnels. My most fond memories of Fallout 3 are of traveling the subway tunnels to get from place to place. I loved it. Keep it.

Add a sprint button.

Please don't let the PS4 version run like piss.

Add random events. That would be swell.

Add more factions. Like I said, I have only played Fallout 3, so I don't know what factions New Vegas has, but I have some factions ideas. Make it so that there are different bandit groups, and that you can join a gang of bandits and it would have it's own questline and everything. You would go on raids, attack trade convoys, etc.

Those are the ideas I have. I might come up with more later, maybe.

My thoughts are in bold. :)

@grimriver said:

1.A Stable Game

100% agree with this. On release, the Fallout games are more glitchy than they should be. Hopefully it won't turn out that way for the next one.

2. Hardcore Mode

F:NV's Hardcore was popular across the masses, so I am sure Bethesda Softworks will add their own version of it in the next Fallout.

3.Better Dialouge

From both Fallout 3 and New Vegas, I think the dialogue is just fine and I like it the way it is.

4. More Factions (lets see what Bethesda can make )

Not only that. I want the other factions to have more meaning and importance for even a side-story. A good example is the Outcasts from FO3. It was a cool faction, yet they had little importance to the overall game from what I remember.

5. More options when it comes to the story and side quests ( to play the character you want to play (Moral And Skill Wise) with different consequences)

I think this have has already been nailed in both Fallout 3 and New Vegas. It's hard to see how they can elaborate more since the character does have to work in the context of the game. Maybe make like F:NV where in one playthrough, you can't complete every existing quests because of the factions and your status with each one.

and more

What do you want from Fallout 4?

I totally agree, in addition I would say:

- Dual wielding, I want to be able to sneak with a silenced 10mm in one hand and a knife in the other.

- Options to regulate gore, not everyone are into gore splattering everywhere from a small calibre arm. Let it instead be a perk or a menu tweak.

- A fleshed out smithing system, please let us make more original armor this time from trashcans and whatnot other resources the wasteland might offer, and more of the cool weapons made from schematics, those were great!

- I want my laser weapons to create smoke and burns.

- Killmoves when sneaking and when performing 100+ damage, this could be in addition to V.A.T.S

@fishysquash15: Survival stuff actually was implemented in New Vegas. "Hardcore" mode. You had to eat, sleep, and drink at regular intervals or you would take stat penalties and eventually die.

Also, the "acid rain" idea really doesn't sound like it'd mesh with the series setting at all.

How so? It is a post-nuclear world. Nuclear fallout has taken over....it makes perfect sense that there would be acid rain...

Also, I already knew about New Vegas's Hardcore mode, but I think that it should be a constant effect, rather than just while on a high difficulty.

Is acid rain something that'd happen from nuclear fallout? To the best of my knowledge it happens because of smog and air pollution from industrial things. That, and by the point in the series timeline it's at (a good two hundred years after the blasts go off), I think most of said nuclear fallout has settled. I mean, they got functioning agriculture and the like and I don't see how that'd be possible if they had some kind of super acid rain.

Your crazy Lulu :D no co-op

What i expect from FAllout 4 is a lot more of what made Fallout 3 great and some of the things from fallout new vegas all in a singleplayer game with no multiplayer or anything even remotely co-op.

The past fallout games and many other RPGs may have been great experience, hell they may even be great RPGs.... But they are not particularly good games.

See gameplay is not important to an RPG so 9 times out 10 developers don't bother with it. So what you get is a Great story, great Role Playing.... and Poor Gameplay.

Hmm, i dont 100% agree here but ill give you that Fallout 3/new Vegas both had a excellent story and the atomsphere in Fallout 3 was great, not as great as the one in Metro Last Light but good enough.

I want it to be more like Fallout 3 than New Vegas.

Also, no multiplayer or co-op. Keep that nonsense out of my RPGs..

I want:

-a good, non-linear story revolving around the game world, factions, and politics, rather than the player

-balanced combat and gameplay in general

-memorable characters and backstories fitting the theme

-no "softening" game's content (have any of you noticed lack of cursing in Fallout 3?)

-interesting quests

-lots of activities outside of the main campaign (gambling etc.)

-return of weapons from Fallout 1 & 2 (I don't know why, but in FO3, as well as NV, there was only around a quarter of weapons from the original games)

but it's Bethesda, so none of these will ever happen and they'll do it their crappy way once again, giving us another Elder Scrolls set in post-nuclear America, like Fallout 3 was.

Not to be called F4llout or Fallout (as a series reboot or something), a good-looking bug-free engine (Fallout 3 was a disaster in that aspect considering that it came out in 2008), V.A.T.S system not to be removed, no iron sights, and definitely no co-op or multiplayer. If you include proper iron sights then remove V.A.T.S. completely, don't implement both of them.

Maybe to have some more colors in it, I know that it's supposed to be gray and dark, but have mercy on my eyes please.

I was talking more about things like necessity to fight Super Mutants (that were one of the strongest enemies in the prior Fallouts) right from the beginning and Power Armor clad Brotherhood of Steel soldiers being beaten to a pulp by a wrench-wielding raider (stuff like that happened quite often).

Well there is indeed at least some kind of toxic rain that does indeed occur during nuclear fallout. It is not necessarily "acid" rain though.

And... maybe set the game closer to the start of the fallout?

What i would like to see in Fallout 4:

  • better animations
  • better dialogue
  • dynamic world
  • sprinting
  • maybe dual welding pistols or knives, nothing crazy like rocket launchers
  • better karma system
  • more crafting, i loved schematics in FO3 but there wasnt enough of them
  • dynamic weather
  • better character creation

Things that should NOT be in Fallout 4:

  • co-op/multiplayer
  • vehicles

Haha….Bethesda is soft by nature. Just look at the Toddler.

I'm glad you brought it up, because no one touches on how Fallout 3 was more childish and seemed to be aimed at a younger audience, compared to the harsher/darker tone of the originals. Either that or Bethesda's writers just write like a bunch of children themselves.

I knew from the minute they had me LARPing that retarded b-day party, we were in for more Beth derp. And the main story with some tripe about finding your daddy ??? hahahhahahahaa ok

To name just a few

60 fps, 1080p

Fast and fluid combat system, fallout 3 felt too clunky

A larger range of environments, not just barren wasteland and destroyed cities.

Improved health system, injuries should deteriorate over time, you should be able to use rifles/sticks as crutches.

Better facial animations, I hate the dead-eye stare in Bethesda's games.

@grimriver: Simply to sum it up,more immersion.

And how about some vehicles that we could get running with parts from other ones, siphon gas wherever we can and make it scarce. have NPC's attack u for ur ride and supplies. Your vehicle could be like your home where u store all supplies and what not, maybe your driving along and you see an NPC siphoning gas out of a deserted car and you stop from a distance and sniper him. Then you take his gas and get the rest.

I want to be able to sprint. I want a map that has locations that contain their own specific quests. Most locations in Fallout 3 and New Vegas (especially New Vegas) were just piles of crap and nothing to do but maybe kill a few enemies. I'd like a map that's not 99% empty space. Keep the option for true iron sights and make VATS more accurate at longer ranges. Lastly, please keep lag and freezing to a minimum.

Proper beta testing before final release

The ability to Sprint jump for the love of everything pure.

Improved combat and better V.A.T.S.

More super weapons and armor like in Fallout 3 like the M.I.R.V. and Chinese armor for example or crazy weapons like that mind control gun that turns NPC's to slaves

Leveling system similar to Skyrim / Fallout 3

Every time you start a new game, it's never the same experience

Good cover system

Random enemy placement

Great rewards and reasons to explore the world like in Fallout 3

Non static NPC's that don't treat you like shit when you disarm a bomb in their city

Romance, wanderers need loving too

Smart AI

Duel Wielding

Weapon and armor smithing but similar to ammo crafting in New Vegas where you can really make good use of scrap metal and tin cans. How cool would it be to take parts of unused weapons and armor and use those parts to build custom weapons, gear and weapon attachments?

More voice actors, not the same recycled ones or using famous actors for characters that eventually die

A Deathclaw companion

Factions or guilds like a vigilante guild that hunts gangs or deathclaws, ghoul hunters, shotgunners faction etc all with interesting quests and lore

More interesting quests like Tranquility Lane, Tenpenny Tower

More bigger and scarier vaults to explore

Three Dog!

I don't think so. They're working hard on pillars of eternity. Also they have expressed their willingness to make a sequel to Alpha Protocol. This actually worries me because they brought so many new things to the table that I liked and folks at Bethesda may simply ditch all that.

I will split it up in gmaeplay and Engine parts, since I find it easier.

Gameplay:

- I want more factions, I want them to be able to influence the World around you, so help a Group and they will spread throughout the World, keep damaging them and they will eventually vanish (basicly settign the spawns of ransom enemies and such based on a certain Groups Health).

- More survival aspects, FO:NV had some really good ideas, but mostly menu based, and not much outside of stats and numbers. I do not want something in the extreme, but less ammo, more need for food, Water, and sleep, perhaps shelter.

- The ability to build at settlement, or a homestead, more fleshed outthen what we had in Skyrim, basicly able to put up a small fort, get traderoutes and potential Allies or enemies of NPC Groups.

- a slower weapon degredation.

- a more desperate feel to the survivers, FO3 and NV (nv can be excused storywise, and even then it did better). There were alot of happy smiley people in those games, as opposed to the first two.

- way more fleshed out modding for your weapons, would be nice if there wwere alot of optoins, and you felt attatched to that weapon you altered or made.

Most of all I want more of what they already made. FO3 was a game I was nervous about when announced they would make it, and it ended up being a really good game.

technical:

- More fluent less stiff movement By you and the World around you.

- Fix the envioment and its invissible walls, and bricks. I have had too many times where I should be able to hit an enemy only to find that half a meter of empty Space would stop my bullet.

- More fluent none Vats Combat, I do not want the FO games to be FPS games, but if you try to mimick FPS aspects then atleast do them well. And keep Vats in, that system to me was one of the important parts that made the game feel like Fallout.

- More stability would not hurt, that said, if Skyrim is an indication I do not have to write this).

- longer Draw Distance.

- More ai driven rutines, if that Means skipping older gens, then I would be ok with it.

- More Weather Patterns, A dark and thretening thunderstorm here and there does Wonders ;) Even in the bleak waterdeprived World of Fallout, as would heavy dust storms.

- Improve the sound: Most people might not care about this aspect, but the sound in Bethesdas games have never been as good as I would have liked.

- More tilesets, I love the exploration, and while FO3 expanded the tileset alot, from prior games, they could do with even more. The one damper in exploring in a game like fallout 3 was that so many Buildings looked and felt the same.

Granted the technical side would make the game way more expensive to make, but if they did the above, I would have no issue of paying more for it.

Make it feel like a completely hostile environment.

i like some of your other ideas but i think with these you need to be careful about sacrificing fun in the name of realism. i want to be encouraged to explore not on the verge of death anytime i arrive anywhere worth investigating. depends how the levelling system is implemented too i guess

* hot female companions

* a genuine next-gen experience

* occulus rift support

* a game that is sufficiently challenging

* good and bad characters (as opposed to this trendy morally ambiguous "grey area" bullshit)

* some dark humour (which was present in fallout 3 but lacking in fallout new vegas)

* the return of 3 dog and Moira

* no hand holding

* (maybe) a main character that actually talks

Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas were both games that I have played through multiple times and that I have recommended to almost all of my friends looking for a great game to play. There were a lot of things I really enjoyed from both games and there were few things that I did not. I approve of what the creators did when adding a hardcore mode. The idea of having to travel through a nuclear wasteland while trying to collect nourishment, staying hydrated, and scavenging weapons that best suit your preferences to protect yourself from the crazy creatures and human beings that desire to take what you have worked so hard for is about the coolest and realist thing that I have found in any game anywhere. But at the same time, this hardcore mode lacked the level of reality that a gamer like myself and gamers everywhere want. Boosting this setting would brighten a lot of people’s experience with this game.

What I really want from Fallout 4 is a happy medium between the games that came before it. Fallout 3 was an instant classic in my eyes and New Vegas was a great game that extended the items that were available from Fallout 3 and gave another great story that really interested the player. I like how much longer New Vegas was than Fallout 3 and maybe in 4 they could make it even longer to prolong the adventure. Wrapping up what I want to say, what needs to go into Fallout 4 is what everybody loved from both games while giving it another great story line and giving off even deadlier and tricked out weapons and armor.

No matter what they do to this game, I will probably still enjoy Fallout 4 very much and buy it as quickly as I can because I have that much faith that this game will exceed our expectation.

Firstly, I badly, badly want this series to abandon the 1st person perspective and return to an isometric one. Imagine a new Fallout with this level of fidelity, albeit a bit darker:

or this....

Now make the camera adjustable (zoomable and rotatable), introduce dynamic weather and a day/night cycle, add destructible environments, keep the combat solely turn-based, and make it as good as the first two and I'd die and go to Heaven. I don't think 1st person fits the pacing of Fallout at all and overall detracts from the type of atmosphere it tries to create. It has made it feel far too action oriented (despite VATS) and not slow, methodical, and deadly as the originals were. On top of this, I want a much darker tone than what 3 and Vegas offered. They were desolate and it looked like a wasteland, but it didn't really feel like one. Not really any sense of dread. Maybe it was due to the amazing music, but 1 & 2 are very dark games in nearly every aspect. Also, more freedom and consequences for every action, and in things like character creation. 1 & 2 were hugely versatile in what type of character you made and how you were allowed to play and 3+ lost a lot of this.

I think I'd just be content with the first two being remade in the above (darker) art style with full voice acting, a reworked inventory system, better NPC ally A.I., and a bit more in-depth combat system. Oh yea, and child killing. Give me FREEDOM. The originals are still two of the best RPGs ever made so far and I'd love to see that formula brought into the modern-age.

I want an isometric, turn-based Fallout sequel, not designed by Bethesda, with Silent Storm's combat system.

So...I basically want a Fallout sequel that actually improves upon the original formula. Is that too much to ask for?

Failing that, I suppose I don't really want a Fallout 4. Hopefully Wasteland 2 will keep me happy for a bit?

So, I have totally read everyone's idea's and here's what I think!

First I see a lot of discussion about the game needing to be harder, or not because some like it realistic, other's don't. What I've always thought would be ideal would be a customizable difficulty. Everything else you get to customize, why not that? I mean when you start, you can either pick "Easy, Medium, Hard, etc." Or you can make your own. You can choose whether or not you depend on food/water, or if bullets have weight, or if food, and ammunition are harder to come by, and let you pick this for everything that could decide your difficulty. After you pick everything, it then determines your lever, and gives your choices the title, of hard, easy, or medium.

And everyone complains about choppy gunplay, and believe me. I hear you. But it's a hard thing to do right in this situation. Imagine Skyrim being more realistic. You hit anyone in the head once with a mace, or the neck with a sword, and they die instantly. Because realistically that's what would happen. It wouldn't be as fun. It would be a bit lame if every shot was realistic in Fallout, and would take away some of the RPG elements, you gun skills wouldn't matter. But maybe implement other FPS aspects! Sprinting, sliding, sprint jumping (Mentioned above) cover systems, and maybe I would actually use grenades if they had their own button rather than having to completely equip it as it's own weapon. That being said the enemy AI also does this, rather than zig sagging and shooting repeatingly saying "I'm going to kill you, guy."

Something I don't think I have seen anyone else mention.. MUSIC. Expand the music. PLEEEEEASE. I love the classic music, but I don't like listening to the same 5 songs everytime I play, more radio stations, more songs, more genres, jazz, blues, country, etc. Also expand the OST. Musical queues are a staple of any sound in gaming. I feel like I shouldn't have the same intensity of music when a rad roach appears, as compared to a pack of ghouls, platoon of soldiers, or a lone deathclaw, Each should have it's own intensity, and a variety of songs.

And with the radio being mentioned, I had read somewhere else that not only should they include a variety of weather, but have the radio on your pip boy give weather announcements. (Maybe a weather app that could be found later?)

Weather app being mentioned, let you customize your pip boy! Kind of like we do our phones, you can pick and choose apps you want on it, your stations, etc. However let the required menus stay of course! It would be cool to find new things to add to it later in the game!

Now something else I've thought since Fallout 3.. The VATS aspect. I love it, but I feel like it has untapped potential. First I don't like using an entire special slot just for VATS *(Agility.) Easy solution? Let your AP/ VATS do more than just slow down/ stop time to pick your shots. Let it almost be the equivalent to spells in other games. You can get one VATS skill that lets you turn invisible, or at least a little transparent. One that temporarily improves stats, such as accuracy or strength. One that maybe literally shoots a jolt of electricity like a stun gun. This would be killer and give you even more things to find in the future of your game play!

More guns/ less guns. Eeeh, I like both sides of this argument. Somewhere in-between FO3 And FNV. I didn't like that in FO3 I would typically acquire the majority of weapons I'd used for the rest of the game within the first few hours of gameplay. However in FNV I would find so many guns, most of which I'd really wanna use cause they looked cool, but were mostly useless compared to your already acquire super weapons.

I don't want to add too many things to my post, so I will end with this for now. Some people mentioned above DUAL WIELDING! Would be awesome, and far more useful than provided in Skyrim. This could add to the customization! As mentioned above a stealth build using a knife and pistol. A Brute using two bats, a commando using two shotguns/ submachine guns! So cool.

Okay. Those are my thoughts!.. For now.

  1. Vive and Occulus Rift support.
  2. Move away from the GameBryo...err, Creation engine with it's ancient runtime code.
