What does 4K gaming mean to you?

To me personally, I'm perfectly fine with my HD TV screen and as well as my Monitor 1080p/144hz, I just think going 4K at this moment isn't that glamouring to me and it's not mainstream as of now. 4K to me looks like were in a pre-beta stages and anybody buying a 4K TV now is just paying thousands of dollars to be a beta tester. So the question is, are you looking forward to going 4K gaming on PC now and the distant future for Consoles? [PS5/next Xbox getting 4K support]

What does 4k gaming means for console it simply means that all these games will be remastered in 4k and sold to you again.

4K gaming is in 10 years for me. PlayStation 6 should be happening. I have promised to keep gaming until PlayStation 9. So 4K gaming will mean that 4K televisions are now mainstream and affordable. When 4K TV's started the were $4000.00 or so. Which is a lot for a Television. Unless you are a hard core television junkie that has 500 channels. Then maybe you could justify buying a 4K television at launch with the 62 inch models costing as much as $7000.00 with 40 inch were $4000.00

So buy the time 4K televisions become mainstream, the PlayStation 6 console will be released. and the 40 inch 4K television should cost $500.00 Then I will get one.

But there will be a brand new type of Television which will cost a few thousand dollars and people will be pining for that. maybe it will go like this? 4K TV then 8K TV then 16K TV and 32K TV and 64K etc.

Gaming just with better display. So eventually I will be gaming on a 4K television. so that is what gaming on a 4K television Gaming with a better display.

No interest in it at all right now.

I'm looking forward to it whenever it gets here but it's not terribly important to me right now.

4K gaming is something I shouldn't hope to achieve any time soon with my rig. It'll be cool when everything uses 4K as a standard, but that's a ways away, and the effort and munnies needed for 4K gaming right now has nothing "standard" about it, so meh.

I'm in no rush. 4K is becoming cheaper so I expect it to be more common in a few years. However, a console that.can give you great 4k performance is a ways off due to the price.

It means little to me. I've always been behind when it comes to graphical quality and I'm totally fine with that. I upgrade my rig at the point that I can't play the games I want to play anymore. The Witcher 3 with settings on high and medium still looks totally amazing. But I'm used to being behind. Others are not.

I'm still gaming at 1080p. For a while i was doing 1440p but got a 1080p monitor that was superior to that for gaming. 4K is a ways off to being practical. Some games you can run fine at 4k but i'd rather max a games settings and run it at 1080p. FPS drops just over half when i do run at a 4k res over 1080p, so i'd have to run SLI to have it playable and its not worth the cost of a new monitor and video card.

4k tvs seem like a waste of money at this time unless you want to rebuy all your blurays again in 4k format, which im never gonna do.

I 'could' buy one, and increase my P.C. for 4K demands.

However, I've been fine with the lower resolution display of 1080. When I've seen 4K next to a 1080p, you 'can' see the difference. Although, it's not a striking difference like 760p next to 1080p. At least not for my vision.

Unless it's for Virtual headsets (in which I'm not a fan), it's not a deal breaker. 4K as of now is for bragging rights only.

I haven't actually seen a 4K screen in person so I don't know how important it is to me yet. I'm still very happy with 1080p. Some of my PC games I play in 1600x900 because I prefer the better frame-rate.

It's very likely I will own a 4K screen in the coming years but probably not until it becomes the standard.

4K means lower framerates. 1440p@144hz is preferable.

To me, I'm happy were am at with 1080p/60fps as well. I could do 4K but it doesn't make sense for me to do so when I'm comfortable what I have.

It'll all become mainstream in a few years.

Right now though, it's for enthusiasts and/or the wealthy.

Don't give a shit about it...Maybe in ten years from now.

Was talking to some friends at the bar about this the other day, but mostly from TV watching angle.

We do a have a 4k set in the house but really never see it really payoff. We have Time Warner cable and they actually call HD anything 720 or better, and they only have a few channels in 1080p. I know these sets are supposed to upscale but really not seeing the payoffs unless it's a Blue ray.

As for gaming, we are good ways off on that as far as consoles go. I agree with other posters that we are probably 10 years out on that. But I do look forward to it if they can pull it off right.

1080 is more than enough, they tried 3D and it was shit, 4k is useless if frame rate is crap. Better eye candy is useless if the rest isn't that well made.

We're still getting games today at sub-1080p resolutions (at least on consoles), so I hope no one is pushing for 4K at this time. The day that every game is a full 1080p and 60 frames per second, without any sacrifices to detail, is the day that I say "ok, now it's time to start looking into 4K".

Your not alone on this one. This may come as a surprise but Resolutions don't normally concern me depending on the game that is, gameplay is also more important and steady frame-rates as well.

I don't think you know how cheap a 4K TV can be had these days. Below is a Samsung model for under $700. "Off brand" TV's cost right around $400 for this size. And I hate to break it to you, but 10 years ago we didn't have console priced tech that could run games at 1080p. Today we still don't have console priced technology that can run games at 1080p across the board. 4K is more than 10 years away for $500 hardware. And 4K at 40" is a waste anyway.

@Yams1980: I don't think its a waste of time 4K TV's have been in the market for a few years now and I picked one up from my local electrical store a Samsung 55" and the prices have come down since then and most manufactures are bringing out 4K blu ray players early next year and you will see a lot of 4K blu ray movies being made for when it comes out next year, you get what you pay for I for one don't own many movies on blu ray so I will just pick up all the movies I'm interested in on 4K. I don't think we will see 4K gaming on the consoles for at least another 7 or 8 years from now.

I think 4K looks amazing and it tends to put new life into some older games. And if you're a big fan of MMORPGs I do think that you could definitely benefit from a 4K monitor if you have a powerful rig. Games like Wildstar, and Star Wars: The Old Republic look amazing especially with the stylized graphics and the bright colors on ultra settings. Not to mention some of the zones in the Elder Scrolls Online are so gorgeous to look at in 4K(the areas in Morrowind for example). At least on my rig's performance is consistent with massive multiplayer online roleplaying games and I tend to maintain a consistent 55-60FPS.

Another benefit of 4K is not having to use anti-aliasing at all since you're playing at such a high resolution. The problem is that not all games are optimized for a 4K experience. While games like the Witcher 3 and Grand Theft Auto V might be more 4K-friendly you'll still struggle with getting a constant 60FPS on a single GPU configuration at ultra settings. To do so requires you to tweak the graphic options. And even if you go from ultra to high settings to get more performance the game remains crisp.

But I still think investing in a good 1080p monitor and building around that is more than enough to get a deep immersive experiences.

Well 4K is still a bit out of reach for a good gaming experience since you'd need multiple video cards. Plus you can't get a 4K display that supports adaptive-sync with a refresh rate higher that 60Hz yet (at least I don't think so, I'm sure we'll see this soon though).

Frame rates over 60 also = wasted resources.

If your monitor is limited to 60hz, then yes. If it is 120/144hz, definitely not. Higher fps feels so much better.

Hardware makers trying to sell us more crap we don't need and would be hard pressed to see the difference in everyday use.

It means I'm totally worthless since I don't have a 4K television. It means I have to buy a new television set. %Tears, Tears, Tears% How can I live with myself since I only own outdated technology?

Not much anymore. VR is becoming a reality sooner than I was thinking it would about 5 years ago. Resolution means little to me beyond VR prospects, aside from hardware able to render things in real-time at high resolution. Eye-tracking and foveated rendering should help accelerate those endeavors greatly though.

My next TV will be 4K, but my current HDTV is chugging along just fine right nwo. As for 4K gaming, don't care.
