Most of the time, , when I buy a new game, I go through the process of:

seeing it on the Steam store→ checking the game description→ checking the reviews,→adding it to my cart until my friends tell me it's a good game. (Because I have so many games that I haven't played)

But if it's a game that includes magic, Cthulhu, snow, psychology, medieval weapons, etc., I'll buy it on impulse like a woman buying lipstick. (I'm a loyal strategy gamer, but I even bought a lot of action games because of it)

Guys, are there any game elements that you're obsessed with

I just buy jrpg an souls game regardless of score or whatever else. I enjoy jrpg genre the most while soulsborne genre is the easiest genre of game to sink time and complete for me. Probably have a dozen or more games in the souls genre platinumed.

If a game looks fun to play am generally interested, if the primary focus is "story" or "graphics" I'm typically put off the project.

For me, it simply comes down to whether I like the look of it or not. Another example would be if I liked the original, I'll surely buy the sequels, or at least be interested.

I generally don't let reviews base my opinion either. Takes the fun out of sometimes just blind buying and surprising myself.

Nothing really. I am drawn to certain genres or subject matter, but I have to evaluate the different qualities of a game before making a purchase. Need to make sure it is worth my time.

Best descriptions to get me interested in a game? Indie, puzzle, mystery, dark. Extra bonus points if its open-world.

Considering the bump, I'll further elaborate.

If it's from a developer I am already happy playing games from it's a no brainer, Vanillaware is a good example. While I do not care so much for 13 Sentinels gameplay the studio always puts high quality and heart into each product.

For an entirely new game, and an unknown studio from my perspective. . and not a sequel for a series I like?

I tend to check the developers history and see if they've been known for well received games or duds. If it's a new studio I am usually hesitant but will see if they have anymore context, developer videos, etc. Otherwise I gauge by checking customer feedback and pick questions at people who have played the game. I have a tendendcy not to trust reviews blindly even from outlets I think deliver honest and good quality. Also have a tendency to take requests from my friends if they provide for me the disc or free code. I'm usually open to give any game at least a try for a rough hour.

The Outer Wilds and Valheim are the last two unknown games I jumped into after checking what people think. And they're both individually amazing, two of the best open world games ever developed.

Competitive games. But has to have balance, where everyone is on equal footing. I really like balanced competitive MP.

MMOs with cool looking weapon and armor sets.

Arcade sports games, thps, ssx, NFL street, NBA street, downhill domination, NFL blitz.

RTS with competitive MP. Particularly base building/resource gathering with real time combat

Fast pace combo based hack n slash games.

Platformers/collectathons.

Definitely originality in games is something I like. Has to be unique.

And also Ace attorney. We need a new entry for sure, though I haven’t played any of the Great Ace Attorney games.

Fighting games. When it’s done right, it’s heaven.

Split-screen multiplayer.

Also, I find most games are improved by adding a grappling hook.
