The Last of Us, definitely. I had it pre-ordered but kind of started losing interest. Then I watched some gameplay and decided I would just wait to rent it instead. What a boring, tedious game. I loved everything about the game (except the ending) except for the gameplay. It's boring.

Naughty Dog had such a great thing going on with the presentation, story, and characters, why did they have to fall back on the same tired cover based third person shooter gameplay that the industry is already oversaturated with. Its attempt to change up that gameplay just fell flat, mostly just working to make it more boring and tedious than if they had just gone a straight action route.

http://www.nohighscores.com/2013/06/18/why-the-last-of-us-sucks/

This covers a lot of what I didn't like about the game, the only parts I disagree with being the story.

The game is designed for multiple playthroughs though. You can easily get 15+ hours of play time going for unlockables, trying different difficulties and weapons, and playing VR missions. I don't get this complaint at all.

Do you think the game would've been improved if there were more padding?

Aliens: Colonial Marines. I really wanted to love that game as all the initial footage looked amazing.

Then we got what the actual gameplay looked like, and yikes. Glad I cancelled that preorder. I ended up playing it for about 20 minutes at my friend's house and was even more happy I didn't waste the money.

Rayman 3.

I almost bought the game simply because the music is awesome.

But I played the demo for the HD version and found that it's not nearly as good as Rayman 2. The powerups seem too gimmicky and unnecessary, and the level design is pretty bland.

It usually takes me awhile to come around to games so the only game I can think of would be Fuse, cause I don't normally have this feeling. I played the Fuse demo and got caught up in it, but a couple weeks later I was glad I didn't buy it. Too many other games to play.

A lot of people attribute the game's poor quality to the absence of the series creator's involvement on that one. I'd say they're probably right, based on the demo I played years ago. Not so good.

I could never get into 3D Rayman games. They were too much of a departure from how the original looked and played.

Twisted Metal. I liked what I played of it with a friend, but I almost paid the full price for it when it came out and that would've been a mistake. Also, I was really looking forward to the 2010 Medal of Honor game so much that I almost pre ordered it when it came out. Thankfully I never got around to it and saved myself some money...

You make a valid point and I respect your opinion but it simply isn't a game I would replay after I beat it.

I don't replay alot of games I have. The only ones I have replayed are the Mass effect series.

Take for instance I have Dishonored. Amazing game and loved every minute of it and is designed for multiple playthroughs. But I beat it once and never touched it since.

Oh and The last of Us is the one the greatest games this gen.

This would be my answer as well.  I was nearly convinced by the fake "in game video" they touted around before release.  Then every reviewer on the planet all said the same things regarding how terrible it was.

How? It's the same tired third person cover shooter gameplay that been done to death this generation except this time around it's been made even more ponderous thanks to a lack of ammo, frustrating aiming controls, arbitrary difficulty spikes, the need to "explore" and scavage for supplies (which basically means wandering to the left or right of a linear path to pick up some crap), and some really horrible stealth.

The only thing noteworthy about the game is its presentation, production values, and acting and writing.

Remember me. reserved my copy a few months before it came out, started seeing more about it and I became less and less interested.

This reminds me that I should probably go get the 5 dollars that I put down on it back :P

Though I wouldnt really say that I almost bought it, I would count Time and Eternity. It looked interesting at first, then I started seeing more of it and started caring less (all of the scathing reviews didnt help its cause either)

How come every thread you make has to do with you not liking The Last of Us? You act like the game promised you were guaranteed to like it or something. Anyhoo, my game is Afro Samurai the game. I am a huge fan of the anime but gladly I rented it because that game was the epitome of mediocre and broken dreams.

Need for speed the run (almost got it to play with some friends but after I heard from them that it just wasn't good I decided not to)

assassins Creed revelations (so sick of the storyline between it and brotherhood I definitely do not mind skipping this one )

Aliens: Colonial Marines ( super awful reviews that pretty much said this was a different pass )

games I definitely regret buying day one

unreal atonement 3.

grand theft auto 4.

DC universe.

God of war ( the last one )

and the last of us.

So? It got unjustifiable tens everywhere. The crowds need to know the truth. It's an interactive movie.

None. Will pick up the other Atlier game and Remember Me once the prices go down a bit.

That's a bit inaccurate based on my play through but if you played the game and thought that it was more of an interactive movie experience then who am I to say anything.

As for a game that I almost bought... I'd have to say Dead Space 3 when it first released. However, if the price of any game that I am interested in gets low enough then I usually jump on it.

I'm playing through Catherine right now and I have to agree. While I like the quirky nature of the game, it just isn't a game that I could recommend to other people. The block puzzle gameplay just isn't that fun at all. I wish they had gone with it being more a simulator than anything else. Oh well... live and learn on this.

That's an awful point you're making and not applicable to The Last of Us at all. The Walking Dead (by Taletell Games) is an interactive movie, Heavy Rain is an interactive movie. The Last of Us actually has great gameplay, an amazing cast, soundtrack, and story. It deserves all of the praise it has received.

Deadly Premonition Director's Cut. I'm watching a playthrough of it, and boy am I glad I did not buy such a shoddily made blatant Twin Peaks rip-off.

It's far from being an interactive movie. It's closer to being a really tedious, really boring, bad, tired, third person shooter attached to what would've been a good movie.

No it doesn't since three topics is far from being every topic I make. Especially when you consider that one of those topics is from months ago and this one is only partially related to the game.

Yeah... I can understand your impression of it based off of watching a playthrough. You would do best to watch playthroughs, such as Giatnbomb's Endurance Run, if you don't have the patience for clumsy controls and rigid gameplay. However, if you love quirky games that happen to be creepy and golden comedy moments then Deadly Premonition is the game for you. I completed the game and it turns out I really enjoyed the hell out of it. I have never experienced another game like it but it is not for everyone.

You not liking the game's mechanics does not make them terrible. But to each their own I suppose.

I've seen enough of the gameplay to be dissuaded from purchasing it. It looks like it controls terribly, the puzzles barely qualify as such, the driving looks so uninteresting and superfluous. The quality of the sound ranging from the voice acting, which borders from blase to terrible, to the soundtrack has such a large disparity that I'm surprised it's in one game. The only thing that seems interesting about the game has nothing to do with the gameplay, and those are the weird and quirky characters.

I'd rather watch Twin Peaks again and forgo the torture of playing Deadly Premonition.

It's actually really good. Unlike in Deadly Premonition, where Swery65 instead of actually fixing and improving the gameplay decided to just lower the difficulty of the enemy encounters for the Director's Cut.

I suppose I should talk about another game to keep this thread from getting too stale. The Hyperdimension Neptunia series are other games I'm glad I didn't buy. While the idea of playing a game that parodies the console war seems like it would be neat, the games don't seem that enjoyable.

This covers a lot of what I didn't like about the game, the only parts I disagree with being the story.

AC Revelations and AC3.

Worth renting, though.

Ace Combat: Assault Horizon - I had it preordered then the whole COD of sky nonsense sprung and a trailer featuring real world theme that based from a book by famous author that I don't care about. I cancelled my preorder. It turned out the game was horrible. Hardcore fans were disappointed and it received negative reviews. Glad I dodged a missile there.

Ni no Kuni: Wrath of White Witch - I was hyped through the roof and craved for JRPG cause the drought across this gen for 7 years. It had over world, freeroam, cities and all goodies from old JRPG. I tried the demo. The battle system was too slow and monster collecting aspect put me off. I don't like pokemon or any collecting monster game. Because of that I didn't buy the game. Kinda glad I didn't get it but deep inside I wish It was a game I could get into.

Boy do I really regret buying that game. It's pretty terrible.

Natural Selection 2. I played a free weekend for it and found out it runs like crap on my PC when there's a lot of people and stuff going on.

So? It got unjustifiable tens everywhere. The crowds need to know the truth. It's an interactive movie.

SirWander

That's an awful point you're making and not applicable to The Last of Us at all. The Walking Dead (by Taletell Games) is an interactive movie, Heavy Rain is an interactive movie. The Last of Us actually has great gameplay, an amazing cast, soundtrack, and story. It deserves all of the praise it has received.

Deadly Premonition Director's Cut. I'm watching a playthrough of it, and boy am I glad I did not buy such a shoddily made blatant Twin Peaks rip-off.

Not applicable to you and the rest of people here who said certain things didn't exist in The Last of Us when they did. I shouldn't take a word from anyone here. Hear it from me people, the game is boring. Uncharted is better as a game. Clickers are fun for a while and having to choose between stealth or coming all out is nice but that's all there is to it.

Almost bought Trinity Universe. Ended up borrowing it from a friend, and I'm really glad I didn't pay any money for it. Also almost bought the first Hyperdimension Neptunia game. I'm glad I went and bought the second game instead. Much better gameplay.
