Hi there,

in german game forums there is usually a thread, in which people describe and rate which game they finish last. I love those kind of threads because I am really interested in why people like/dislike a certain game. So I thought: Let's try that here.

Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams (PS3)

This game is one of the best platformers I ever played! Graphics are awesome (they would even be awesome on a PS4) and the sound really hits it off! Let's just say: Chris Hülsbeck is still on par with Rob Hubbard and Martin Galway! Made me wanna buy the soundtrack right away! Gameplay is a blast - honestly! Hadn't played a good platformer in years, now I can't get my hands off! I am even kind of dreaming about this game! :)

The game evolves pretty much around the idea of switching between cute Giana (who can "twirl") and punk Giana (who can "dash"). Sounds easy, but is actually very difficult! At least for me (41 and reflexes are not that good any more :). Levels are quite long and mastering one may take up to an hour or even longer - especially when going after trophys/achievements.

I can recommend Giana Sisters to everyone, who loves/used to love platformers like I did (and especially to those of you who actually played Giana Sisters in the 80s).

9/10

I recently finished Sleeping Dogs.

Fun game, lots of action, kind of like a GTA clone though.

8/10.

Just finished Final Fantasy XV yesterday.

I liked the cast of characters. The open world was beautiful.

I would have liked a turn based combat system cause I am old school like that. But the combat grew on me and I enjoyed it.

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. It was a pleasant surprise. Story was good, space combat is super fun, and I actually remember the characters this time around. 8/10 for the campaign alone.

Finished The Last Guardian this morning. Played it for 14 hours straight.

Loved the character interactions and the way they fought so hard for each other. The controls work, but can be a real hassle in crucial moments which leads to frustration. Played on PS4 Pro in 1080p mode and didn't notice any performance issues. Graphics look so much better in person as opposed to videos on the net. The game some very intense and epic moments, making it worth playing. The story was a bit of a let down.

Rise of the Tomb Raider. That's 2 completions from 2 games in the rebooted series, after going 0 from 3 when I bought Legend, Anniversary and Underworld. Still not quite sure why.

Anyway, good game. 9/10.

Last game I finished was Tyranny, an RPG for PC by Obisidian in the veins of Pillars of Eternity.

The start was amazing, like one of the best RPGs of all time amazing. However it lost steam as it went. Tried to do too much with a small budget all the while feeling somewhat unsatisfying. Despite its shortcomings it is a great RPG, probably the best of 2016 and it has great replayability. I've only played it once so far but I will probably do a couple more playthroughs. It's not too large, took my like 40 hours first time and I'm sure it will be shorter on subsequent playthroughs. Things can vary greatly as whole areas, npcs and quests can be missed depending on your choices. 8/10

Yes, I was also pleasantly surprised. Good story, good gunplay, space combat was well done and not excessive. Good character development, I actually felt sad when we lost someone. Probably my third favorite CoD.

I recently played through the first Kingdom Hearts through the HD 1.5 Remix, I'd rate it a 7/10. I loved the music in the game and the combat was fun, but it definitely had some glaring flaws like the camera, bland characters, and the lock-on being frustrating at times. I also didn't care for the story that much.

I'm currently about halfway through TLOU on PS3, I'd rate it a 9/10 so far.

Just finished Gears of War 4 and on Insane to boot. It was quite tough with some really frustrating spots here and there but I persevered. The game looks fantastic and mechanically it's the best in the series both online and off. The story was ok but not great and was really the only thing holding it back any. The new Horde mode is terrific and the class system really raises it to another level. All in all an excellent game. 8.5 out of 10.

Call of Duty: Black Ops. This is going to require some explanation.

See, I have a huge backlog problem; my game completion rate is at an abysmal 32% according to my Backloggery, which I believe is padded by DLCs, and therefore my real completion rate is most likely even lower. To address this problem, I recently compiled my own data and did a simple statistical analysis to see what kinds of things influence my completion rate.

As a result of this analysis, I identified a number of games with the highest "completability" criteria; i.e. they check the most boxes of the kinds of games I have better completion statistics in. At the top of this list (that I can do at this time) was Call of Duty: Black Ops, which I completed in just 2 days.

Next one down is Magrunner: Dark Pulses, and I am already just 4 levels away from completion. At this point, I think I am pleased to say my efforts are already yielding results.

Watch Dogs and that game... Ugh. The fact that it didn't look like the E3 trailers when it was announced is the least of that game's problems. In my most frustrated moments with the game, I would give it a 2/10 and consider that generous, but it did have some moments that didn't feel like all the worst parts of GTA coupled with the worst shit from Assassin's Creed. An honest appraisal would probably be closer to a 5/10: aggressively mediocre with some maddening control issues that just feel sloppy and half-assed, tedious "side activities" that mostly amount to pointless, repetitive busy work (with the most interesting of these activities, the serial killer investigation, having an unforgivably lame, blue balls conclusion), and just a whole lot of missed opportunities. Surprisingly, I think I had the most fun with the multiplayer, which is really little more than hide-and-seek.

I'd have absolutely no interest in touching Watch Dogs 2 if not for the fact that the mostly positive reviews have made me curious to see if they actually managed to work out all the kinks and make something genuinely fun and engaging.

I play an beat a game on normal, then hard, ect..until all have been done. The last game I did this for was Battlefield 1. Very fun game, I would give the campaign a 9/10 an the multiplayer 7/10 because of the cheaters. Graphics are really good in my opinion and game play is easy to pick up.

I guess it was Tales of Borderlands ... 8/10

Right now I'm playing DOOM4, World Of Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy XV and The Last Gardian.

I guess I won't finish a game in a long time.

Assassins Unity. Just cleaning up some sync points atm then Ill have 100 percent sync! The ill give the dead kings DLC a crack. Ive never really played the Creed franchise until now. The main story was oookkkk, Elise was bloody annoying as a character but. The side missions were solid and the Nostradamus enigmas were challenging (I did about 70 percent by myself, the last 4-5 I had to use a guide) Overall I'd give it a 7/10. I never really experienced any game breaking bugs which the series is known for, on the XBone

Master Of Darkness - Sega couldn't get Castlevania (Nintendo made third party develop exclusively) so they made their own.

It ain't half bad. Very easy though, particularity the 5 bosses.

Far cry 4.

Lots of content, great gameplay, fun, good story, interesting villain and lots of weapons. But gets repetitive in the last 4-5 hours....and there's no point in most of the collectibles.

8/10.

The last game I completed was Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney.

There are some very fun cases in this game that present some intriguing puzzles. The narrative is compelling enough and serves the mechanics well. Like all of the Ace Attorney games, it does a great job in making you feel like a detective solving a case. It gives you enough evidence and clues in the narrative to put all the pieces together yourself, while still throwing a few curve balls. (Actually, the Phoenix Wright titles do a better job at making the player feel like a detective than most games where you play as one... Looking at you L.A. Noire).

Apollo's ability to pick up on a witnesses' habits is a fun mini-game but not as successful to the game loop as Phoenix Wright's magatama in the previous games. I found that Apollo's mini-game was just that - a difference in kind. Whereas Phoenix Wright's mini-game recounted details of the narrative and gives the player a better picture of what was going on. In the long run, this is a more effective mechanic as an understanding of the narrative is vital to completing the puzzles in this series.

I very much enjoyed it all the same. :)

Magrunner: Dark Pulse is done! Good, satisfying first-person puzzle game, similar to Portal, but with a Lovecraftian twist. From a satisfaction base score of 8, I remove 1 point for the cosmic horror story that has the horror and subtlety of a brick being fired out of an air cannon at your face, and another point for the repetitive middle section that overstayed its welcome, and the opacity and fiddly nature of some of the puzzles. Final score: 6/10. Still not bad.

Next one down on my statistically generated "Attack List:" The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena.
