With "cosest to heart" I don't mean which system you like best but which holds a "special place" to you. For example one may consider the PS2 the best game system but have a special place for Sega Master System.

Mine would be (surprise surpise) the N64. I don't consider it the best game system (or console for that matter; To be honest the title of the best system should belong to the PC) of all times but it does hold a special place for me.

What about you?

There are three actually:

-N64

-Sega Saturn

-Sega Dreamcast

It is mostly the vibe, and feeling I get when I think back at how much I enjoyed these consoles in their golden years that makes me very happy. Even though PS2 is technically my favorite system, these three for whatever reason make me feel very happy when I remember all the great memories I had while playing them.

For me it's the NES because of the early childhood memories and the awesome sound chip. I will always love the sounds of the NES which are so unique to anything else out there which is why I'm glad people are making chiptune music. The console itself didn't have the best games (that would come in the 16-bit era imo) but man, opening up that birthday present and seeing the NES inside... good times.

Original NES (although the Atari 2600 and an unnamed pong-type-plug-and-play system is a close second).

Pretty much this, I started playing games on the PC, but mine wasn't very powerful so it could barely run any 3D games. When I first played games like Gran Turismo, Crash Bandicoot and Driver on the PS1, I was blown away.

For me, it's a tie between SNES/Genesis. In my mind, those two are the same console. So many teenage memories of neighborhood tournaments and co op play with friends. Good times!

Sega Genesis/Sega CD. It is on Sega CD that I played my first really good RPG, Lunar, and I have been hooked ever since. Second is for some reason playing old Game Boy games on my Gamecube really stirs the nostalgic soup. I spend way too much time doing this and not enough time on my newer games... not that it really matters, I suppose.

Well, yes, but apart from the early ones, it struggled to run just about every 3D game. For example, Thief, Tomb Raider III, Homeworld, Test Drive 4 and Need for Speed II ran at about 15-25 FPS even in software mode. (that's just an average, it sometimes dropped below 10) Heck, even some 2D games, like Starcraft, Age of Empires II and Emergency had issues. I had to play SimCity 3000 and The Sims without sound to prevent crashes. Believe me, my PC really was terrible.:P

wow, that is pretty bad. my PC could run Quake , TR2 , Fifa98/99 , Thief , just fine, Starcraft and AOE2 ran really smoothly, same for the C&C games. really the first game to really give me issues was Red Alert 2 , the videos ran at like 5fps, and the game generally ran at 10-15fps when that happened, I realized its time for a new one , there was no point in just getting some minor upgrades (it was already upgraded from 32MB to 64MB of RAM)

well for me its probably my atari lynx. I have had that thing for a LONG time and I've spent so many hours playing it. I still can fire it up for a few minutes before I go to sleep and try to beat my high scores on California games. As for home consoles, probably my genesis. I've had that for nearly as long as my lynx. I may not play my genesis as much, and I really dont buy many games for it, but I have a lot of great memories playing NBA JAM and Madden 95 with friends.

Exactly why does GS block that word?

Anyway probably PC PS2, and N64. Though the past 4 years, PC exclusives have really dropped off to me.

Because it is a word reserved in PHP, ASP.NET, CSS and Java that people can exploit and 'hack in' or something. I think its being too cautious.

As a kid, I had my Genesis hooked in a small tv. Sonic, Tiny Toon Adventures, and Gargoyles are the games I played most. Man it was fun. The Genesis still works, but is back in its box.

The NES. I first had an Atari 2600, wasn't very impressed by it. Then when I was like 6 we got an NES. I fell in love with gaming on my NES. Mario, Zelda, TMNT, Contra, Bionic Commando, man, those were good times.

A game rather then a gaming system. "Bubble bobble" since that was the first game I was "addicted" to others games included Twisted metal, Halo 3, andRaiden 2.

Games rather then the actual machine they are played on. The Softs (software) are more important then the videogame system. Super NES is my favorite system of all time. Even more than the Playstation 3.

The games are remembered or closest to heart. Instead of the machines there are featured on. Amount of time at the arcade when they had arcades.

Although the SNES was the first system I can remember getting and loving, I have to choose the N64. There was something mystical about it at the time.... The games were way ahead of their time in terms of gameplay (and I guess even graphics at that point).

Mario64 was a videogame life-changer for me. Its the reason I keep buying Nintendo products; to try and relive that feeling, but it wont ever be the same...

Dreamcast. Mainly due to the fun I had with it, especially with my friends, battling it out on NFL2K! Not to mention the rest of it's great, but limited library. I play my 360 more than any other console in my home, but the Dreamcast just holds the fondest memories, and still is fun to play currently.

I remember the day we got our Dreamcast. My dad had just come back from the gym and asked me to grab his towel from out of his bag. I zippered it open and not only did I pull out a Dreamcast, but Soul Calibur(the sequel to my favorite fighting game ever(at the time)), too. I hooked it up immediately and spent so much time playing it that I forgot about the hotdogs I was boiling on the stove! Hah hah, I burnt boiled hotdogs over a Dreamcast! I still remember the three games it came with... Soul Calibur, Dynamite Cop and Crazy Taxi... I also remember way back in the day '94/'95 when my dad brought home our Saturn with Virtua Fighter 2, Virtua Cop, and Daytona USA. He also brought home Andretti Racing and a grip of demo discs. Getting those new systems seemed so impossible back then... Thanks for making this thread, TC, good times!
