6-year old? Hm...
If you have a Playstation 2, definitely try to find the PS1 Crash Bandicoot series.
It's very hard to recommend games without knowing what system you're buying them for. The general rule though is that if the game looks like its marketed toward kids (its an adaption of a disney movie, kid's show, has bright colorful characters, etc.) and has a rating of EC (early childhood) or E (everyone) you're good to go. Kids have absolutely no taste in video games so you don't have to worry about whether or not he'll like it because he will. You could hand him the worst game ever made and I gurantee you he will love every minute of it. If you want a game you can both play together then look for the number of supported players on the game box (should be on the back near the bottom. It'll usually say something like "1-2 players" or "1-4 players". Anything more than four means it supports online play, which by the way, you don't want to let your son do. The second he plays online his ears are going to be flooded with things you'd probably rather he not hear until 16).gameguy6700
That may be true for some kids, but then again, when I was 3 I was telling my parents what games I wanted...
Seriously though, don't think just because he is 6 he is incapable of playing a real game. Nintendo especially makes games that are okay for kids without dumbing it down.

I never said he wasn't capable of playing a real game. I just said that for a six year old, which is a first grader, its probably best to keep the games in the "E" rating area...unless you think letting a six year old play M-rated games is a good idea. While a lot of T rated and E-10 rated games would probably be appropiate for a kid, I was just pointing out general rules. An E rated game is pretty much "safe" according to most parent's views so if he goes off ratings alone there shouldn't be much of a problem. With E-10 and T, however, there could be some problems. And while you may have had some taste in games at three, most kids don't, hence the reason the kid's game market is still alive after all these years.
Sorry its for a PCGoJets1
I would recommend platformers like Earthworm Jim (1&2), Titus the Fox, Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure, Kommander Keen , Rayman (any of the Rayman games) etc
You can find lots of games like that which would be good for a 'child' of six (or a child of any age :P ) to download for free a lot of the time (legally) or buy very cheaply.

You can legally download those games? Link please? :P
Anyway, I'd throw in the tycoon series (railroad tycoon, themepark tycoon, etc.) and possibly SimCity (any of them).
Also, I'd suggest taking a look at this site. I don't know how good it is since I found it on the first page of a google search, but it looks like it fits your needs exactly.
I started my daughter on Spyro the dragon, crash bandicoot-ctr when she was at that age. Those are pretty easy to play and safe for the young ones. tombtraider
