What games would make great movies?

Just because a game is a thrill to play, it doesn't mean that it would make a good movie.(Even though you may think so at the time). The one factor that judges if a game will make a good movie or not is storyline. A good story has plenty of lore(or history/background), deep character development, and a script(what the characters say) that is easy to follow and understand.

Here are two games that I believe would make good if not great movies: The Mass Effect series (self explainitory). The Halo series (If you read the books then you will probably agree).

What do you think is needed in a game to make a movie out of it? And what are those games and why? I'm very interested to hear your opinions.

Fallout, maybe, because there is enough mythology to create many different stories, very much like Star Wars. Also, Assassin's Creed would seem like a no brainer. A fast paced, action packed, conspiaracy filled movie would be a summer blockbuster hit.

Of course, this is all assuming the makers of the movie actually try to make it good, and not some cheap cash in.

Halo, as long as it focuses on an actual plot and doesn't get oversaturated with CGI scenes.

If they focused on the novels, they'd actually be quite good.

Any Ps2 exclusive

IE: jak, sly, GOD OF WAR, killzone, ratchet etc.

Maybe even Half Life 1/ 2... again, if it was a well made movie.

There have been 2 good game movies I've seen. Silent Hill was good; it was actually creepy at parts, and the environments were spot on.

And Prince of Persia wasn't too bad; it was a fun summer action movie.

The Resident Evil movies were okay, but it's getting to be kind of ridiculous, considering the plot is awful.

Ya, of any game to be made into a movie, why choose resident evil? The story is just not good enough too support a feature film. And I swear they take some parts from the matrix...

Assassin's Creed definitely, Ascendence was pretty good, a little short and dark but good. And Kingdom Hearts (Like how they made FF Advent Children)

EDIT: Oh and besides those, I'd also like to see Devil May Cry be brought into play aswell.

It's pretty good, you may enjoy it, you may not. I personally did enjoy it, seeing Cloud come to life....virtually speaking was awesome and watching him perform his Omnislash was pretty insane, plus Cloud and Zack...just awesome. That's why Crisis Core was beast, aswell as FFVII. Seeing as how Square Enix is about there $$$ and how Disney is with there movies I could see it happening.

Assassin's Creed! Kingdom Hearts! Dragon Age! Halo! Bioshock would be pretty sweet. Gears of Wars! Mass Effect! Maybe Bayonetta as well.

Pretty much, games with a good plot and characters that draws you in as you watch and play will make great movies.

Not flaming here but Indiana will be forever powerful.

Some of the best movies that comes from games are the ones that does not retell the game but tell another story that comes to or from the game.

Mass Effect - Very obviously would make an exceptional movie, especially the storyline from the first game which I thought was one of the best sci-fi story lines I've ever enjoyed, movies included.

Deus Ex - The original game had a spectacular storyline and intriguing plot. Would be a great movie.

Fallout series - I generally love post apocalyptic films so this would be good

Stalker - Love that dark Russian atmosphere and a very adult storyline (yes I'm aware there is a Russian Stalker movie, but it's not quite like the game)

Star Wars KOTOR - Would make a great movie, much better than the recent "prequels". Excellent storyline

Half Life - Just a good gaming memory, would love to see this made into a movie.

On an alternate note, games that shouldn't have been made into movies...

Aliens V Predator - I love both the Aliens films and the Predator movies. Combining them might have seemed like a good idea when I was 10 years old, but in actual reality is was a terrible idea that has produced two terrible movies. By combining both "aliens" you are deprived of the mystery and value of both somehow. (and yes i know it was a comic book before being a game).

Not in any particular order...

Mass Effect - I don't really care if it's about Shepard; the Mass Effect universe is just so big and amazing that you could reallymake any type of movie from it...

Red Dead Redemption - Amazing story and characters...When I was playing it I said "They've gotta' make this into a movie!"

I'd love to see a Left 4 Dead movie :lol: With the original survivors...

Borderlands...if it was cast right...it would have to be funny...and have some really over the top action scenes...

I really liked the first Resident Evil. I'd love to see Left for Dead, Boaderlands, Mass Effect & Assassins Creed all made into movies!

Halo, Starcraft, Assassin's Creed, and maybe Red Dead Redemption.

God of War would be extremely corny. It'd be like a worse version of Clash of the Titans.

Mass Effect, Bioshock, Assassin's Creed, Red Dead Redemption, Gears of War and Fallout. I hope they don't make these into movies, though -- past experience dictates that game-based movies are bad, and I wouldn't like the image of great games like these compromised.

A new Mario Bros movie would be awesome (jk). Aside from that, Assassin's Creed, Halo, and Heavy Rain would be nice, although the ultimate is like a movie anyways.

I'm gonna go with Broken Sword or Gabriel Knight. Both of these games would lend well to a sequel made as a movie that does not need any real knowedge of the games.

However,most directors seem more insterested on wasting time make movies based on shooters. If this habit remains then I would like to see a movie based on one of the side characters. Leave the main character in the game and use the movie to expand the game world.

Heavy Rain is kinda a movie in itself.

Can't wait to see the Uncharted movie.

Someone should make a movie poster on photoshop for the game they want made into a movie

No game will make a good movie. I can see expanding on the universe of the game franchise, but adapting a game into a movie will probably never work.
