When you look back what generation has been your favorite so far?
This is a hard one for me because I could just base it off complete nostalgia and say the 4th gen but to be honest most of the games back then I just can't go back to even though I have such fond memories of that era. So it's probably 6th gen not by much though 7th gen is a close second. I choose 6th because that era there are still games that haven't been matched just in terms of fun factor for me games like SSX and Burnout. So what about you guys what is your favorite gen of all time?
6th gen has most of my GoATs. Developers really figured out how to work in 3D this gen, and development costs were still low enough for interesting ideas to get greenlit.
Gen 7 is a close second for online giving rise to the indie scene, and AAA pushing out big ideas without getting toooo greedy.
I'm not going to lement the present though. There are practices I don't like, but at the end of the day there are more good games to play than I could ever hope to get through. Love games, always will.
The fourth is my favourite, specifically due to the SNES. I can very easily still play and very much enjoy most all of my favourite games from that system.
The PS2/Xbox/GameCube era. I find a lot of games I play tend to be from this era and tend to be the ones I go back to most of the time. Not to say I do not enjoy any of the other eras, but I think this has a lot more memories and enjoyment.
I have a pretty lame answer to this and it's the same every time the question arrives on the forums.
Can find games of any generation and have a good time. Some games are winners, some are stinkers. I love both old games before my birth and new games released on a new born day. Generation never defined the quality of a game, the team that designed the games do.
From Tetris to Elden Ring, a great game is a great game regardless of when it was made. They're masterworks all, you can't go wrong!
So I have no preference. I don't base my love of gaming with sentimental nostalgia.

PC doesnot have generations so I go with era instead
Never agreed with this statement.
Games that ran through DOS could be considered prior gaming generations. Not to mention file sizes- KB, MB, GB, TB. Rendering technologies, textures, the very code that is being built is far different today than when P.C. games got developed in the 70's.
Adding to that how storage and data was formatted, stored, and read on personal computers- Floppy disk, CD, DVD, online stores, each could be defined as a generation of gaming.
And while I'm unsure what the formats are called, pretty sure some storages exist pre-floppy and inbetween CD which was considered revolutionary at the time. I do not know what they are called.
Just look up the definition of "generation" for more context; and it's clear P.C. has generations, who do you know who is playing Red Dead Redemption 2 on this set-up?
You are not putting a modern video game onto a storage unit that can only hold and 'read' 500 Kilobytes of data. Heck it couldn't attempt a 32-bit graphics game (for context a common image uploaded is close to 500 Megabytes, 500MB= 500000KB)
Then consider the dated cards/ chips attempting to process all the data. . it becomes an impossibility. If anything the machine would set fire in the attempt.
@eni232: Very memorable ones. I have been going back to my PS3 and now trying my hands at fully completing Rayman 2 Revolution and will possibly jump to Rayman 3 afterwards. Heck, I even jump back to the Jak series from time to time and have to replay the Sly trilogy I bought some time back and haven't booted up (I have already went through them, I just bought them digitally).
PS2 Xbox GameCube gen. PC gaming was amazing at that time as well
Yes, it was 2000-2005 was my favorite time in gaming nothing can top that for me the creativity and amazing games we got back then are still influencing the industry today.
It’s a toss up between the PS2 and PS3/Xbox 360 eras for me. PS2 had some amazing fun games, but the following generation really tightened up gameplay mechanics and improved graphics immensely.
@hrt_rulz01: Don't get me wrong, every eras has something. The PS4/One era really have some top notch games that I am still playing. The PSP/DS era was a very underrated one (and I would toss in there the 3DS era). There are some in the N64 era I still want to try. But it we are going off of memorable and one that I do notice, definitely the PS2/Xbox/GameCube era. It's games just have that replayability and enjoyability that I still find myself going back to every now and then.
SEGA and old PC games have its unrepeated vibe. I dunno why cuz the graphics suck and the gameplay is simpler then ever, but I love replaying Sonic the Hedgehog over and over
Dreamcast, PS2, Gamecube. Back when I was still excited to get up in the morning and play a little more. When production budgets were still reasonable and AAA games didn't need to be made for as many people as possible. When those devs were still trying new things with 3D gameplay.
The PS1 era will always be my favorite because it was the golden era of JRPG'S but realistically I'd probably agree with a few others and say the PS2/Xbox/GameCube gen because the hardware made a huge jump. Games like FFX and Kingdom Hearts we're created and they still hold up and are being played to this very day.
Well since PS3 and Xbox 360 are my two favorite consoles of all time, I'd go with that one. It still feels like we really haven't gotten out of that generation. Has gaming really moved forward? People are still playing Skyrim, Mass Effect, Fallout, GTA V, Last of US from that GEN. It feels like we are going to get remasters/remakes from that gen for the next 10 years.
