I play everything except MOST racing and sports games. Unless the racing or sports game has some unique twist to it that makes it cool, i don't play it. I don't find it fun.
FPS. I loved Descent, Quake, Golden Eye and Perfect Dark. I played all of those to no end but after PD I lost all interest in the genre and haven't gone back since. I think it's because I started playing RPGs around that time and every other game I'd played before that didn't really have a storyline or it was executed poorly. I fell hard for a good story/characters and FPS pretty much never offer that and don't even make a half ass attempt at offering that. I still play 3rd person games, but with stuff like Mass Effect, Fallout 3 (although I think the story quality is horrible for a RPG, so I like to think of it as an interesting FPS, which I can buy into) and Alpha Protocol, i'll probably be done with 3rd person shooters pretty soon if they can't offer me a rpg quality story since it's clearly possible to do.
i dont sports games anymore (though admittedly, i did take a quick stab at the new ufc game when my friend rented it since it was supposedly the first good mma game. it seemed to have a lot in common with the fighting genre anyway). there was a long stretch last generation when nobody was offering any exciting new ideas and i just stopped looking. supposedly there have been some pretty good ones lately, but i know that a slightly better sequel will come along the next year to steal away the community and make my purchase obsolete. maybe these developers should release their respective sports games every other year and just update the rosters annually via dlc. id feel more confident with my purchase that way and id actually anticipate what 2 years worth of updates will bring.
FPS, both on console and pc, because I'm terrible at them. Just can't get the hang of controlling 2 sticks at the same time in different directions. I also never play american football games as I don't understand the defensive aspects.
I play pretty much every genre, it seems they all have something to offer. As for sports, if you didn't play NHL09 you missed one of the best games of 2008.
Sports games, because I personally don't find them interesting. Racing games, because nearly every racing game I've played thus far has been bad or mediocre, with the exception of Mario Kart 64, which still does not reach the coveted level of "great". Inductive reasoning tells me to not even bother. MMORPGs, because every single one is terrible, and developers/publishers have no incentive to make a good one when the most sound financial choice is to be as similar to World of Warcraft as possible without infringing copyright.
I don't play FPS(big shmup fan though) and I dislike JRPGs. I hate it where you walk 5 yards and some useless enemy springs out from nowhere. I don't like MMORPGS much either.
I don't play many sports games, even though I have a few. I don't play puzzle games or those detective games. The ones where you have to find clues by clicking on objects in the environment.
I'm open to everything, although I usually find myself not playing many sports games since my job deals with sports, and when I play games I'd like to do something that doesn't make me think of my job. :)
I'm not into any kind of sports game or any game that's too realistic in that it could happen in real life. The only exception is GTA. I'm not too much into strategy and stealth games like Fire Emblem and Metal Gear respectively because I'm not that patient; but I'll try to get used to them.
