What has gotten into the minds of devs. All they release now is competitive shooters. Then when Devs do decide to release a game thats a little different and tries to reach between competitive, casual, hardcore, and all the above they fail. Free roam games are the only non competitive game out there and a game you can just sit down and have fun. And Assassins Creed is getting boring and repetitive and I sold my xbox 360 for a ps4 so i cant play gta 5 (damn you Rockstar.) The only game im really looking forward to this 2014 season is Watch_Dogs. It's new refreshing and really is its own game and takes very few ideas from other games. But other than that (and Dying Light it looks pretty good too) if you really look at the lineup and look at the trailers of games the only games that stick out (besides Watch_Dogs and Dying Light) are 1st/3rd person competitive shooters. I mean i am just so excited for Watch_Dogs and will probably pick up Dying Light with it but besides that i don't see me picking up many other games (i'll probably grab thief too if i have the money.) And all the competitive first person shooters lined-up for 2014 just doesn't soothe my taste buds for gaming. Lucky for me i am getting a moderate gaming laptop for $600 so i can get games like the total war series and survival games like minecraft and dont starve (yes i know dont starve is coming to ps4 very soon) and just so i can have a broader range of games to chose from. What do you guys think about, (especially console players because you have nowhere else to turn you're stuck with what AAA titles come out) all these competitive shooters coming out is it too much for you? Are you going to buy them all? or are you like me and getting a cheap alternative like a low-med end gaming rig. Let me know down below.

What exactly is original and refreshing about Watch Dogs? It looks like a modern day Assassins Creed reskin

I dunno man. I've got an X1 and am getting a PS4 for Christmas and I have only one FPS between both new consoles. I've been playing Dead Rising 3, Forza Motorsport 5, Ryse: Son of Rome, and am about to get Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag: Pirates of the Caribbean as well as Injustice: Gods Among Us. When they come out, I'll be picking up inFamous: Second Son as well as Watch Dogs.

The only shooter I'm getting in the next year will be Bungie's Destiny.

Yes, there are a lot of shooters. But that's because that is the most popular genre of the last 10 years. And they are a lot of fun, it just depends on how you approach them. Don't be hyper-competitive and just enjoy yourself and a FPS can be a blast as well. And even if you don't want FPS, there seems to be a good amount of non-shooters coming out from where I sit.

I haven't bought a FPS since Halo4(sold it long since) but I have trouble keeping up with my backlog- let alone all the games on my 'someday' list.

It's not that the games aren't out there, it's that the games don't make the COOL lists.

Deadpool, WH40K Space Marine, Captain America: Super Soldier, TMNT: Out of the Shadows- these are some of my favorite games. Call of Duty and Battlefield don't even rate honorable mentions.

Just going to warn you that that $600 gaming laptop isn't going to get you very far if you want to keep up with new high-end releases for the entire gen. If PC gaming is really what you want to switch to, it's better to go in big at the start and get the high cost out of the way. What you put into your gaming PC is what you're going to get out of it.

I just played Super Mario 3D world(awesome by the way), and I think it was just recently released. Mount, and Blade is another. Xcom is another. You know what I pretty much play games for fun.

All I know is that there are a crap load of games out there that are just for fun. While I may play an rpg for story, and the world, if I don't have any fun, well I'm turning it off, and not playing it anymore.

Watch Dogs and Driveclub are most anticipated with Dragon Age if it doesn't get delayed

Not too much for me since I just avoid 'em. The last shooter I bought was resistance 3 and that's because it was part of a black friday sale for $10. last gen I was a manticore and thoroughly enjoyed each console I owned (my favorite being the 360 due to the influx of bullet hell import shmups).

I've always had a PC which I will stick to, and I think the Wii U will be my first next gen purchase. I've never been disappointed by a Nintendo console and have always had fun.

it seems to me that the vast majority of games would like nothing more than to be considered "fun." even shooters with predominantly competitive modes want to lower the tension of dieing by making near immediate respawns. player characters are bullet sponges so you don't have to worry about watching your back. leveling systems take away player skill being the final say in victory. some games like to add super weapons so everybody can have a shot at racking up kills even if they aren't very good at shooters. lots of concessions are made for the sake of "fun."

I've been bored with shooters since the end of the PS2 era. And I have even less interest in online shooters. I've got a PS3 and over the last 7 years there have been plenty of non-shooters that I haven't had a chance to play, so I've got a good library of those games to look forward to. And I've got a PC so there's that as well.

I'm really hoping I can count on Sony, Bethesda, Square Enix and a few other publishers to make some non-shooter games this coming gen. If it was just EA and Activision I would have quit gaming a long time ago.

That's why I don't limit myself to playing games from only one era. There are so many good older games out there, so I spend my time mostly learning about and playing those.

Only shooters I get are BF and COD and i skipped both entries this year because i am still playing Modern Warfare 3.

Production costs have soared so devs taking risks is less likely.

In PS1 days you could make a game for $100,000. Now it's 30-50mill. You can lose $100,000 and recover but 50mill?! Prepare to be sacked

Well just because a game is a competative shooter doesn't mean that it isn't fun. You may not find particular types of games fun but surely others do.
