I consider a perfect 10 to be when a game has perfect graphics, story, gameplay, and when I have a high amount of enjoyment playing the game. That's what a perfect 10 is to me. Maybe yours is different and your all about the enjoyment. There are two games I would consider perfect and they are Mass Effect 2 and Castlevania Lords of Shadow. These two games were excellent in all four areas I named as key areas for me. That's my opinion. What do you consider a perfect 10/10 to be? Name examples of games that you think are perfect. I'd love to hear your opinions on the subject.

Uhm, a game that I completely enjoyed all the way through. A great story along with great gameplay.
But my score would have absolutely nothing to do with graphics. Graphics don't make a game fun.

Just because a game scores 10/10 doesn't mean its perfect. But it comes damn well close.

Definitely this. Usually it tends to be a game that I can play over again just for the sheer enjoyment of it, despite having beaten it already. Even though I know the game and story through-and-through, there is still fun to be had from experiencing it again.

its basically a game i had an overwhelmingly positive experience with. everything works, everything has purpose, and everything fits together. its a fine piece of video gaming.

one thing ive noticed about the games i feel deserve a 10 is that they tend to be very pure games (some examples: ico, shadow of the colossus, metroid prime, and demon's souls). they have minimal cutscenes, lots of interactivity, they tend to be great genre games, and they really seem proud to be video games.

A game that provides me with either:

1. Amazing unique story that i cant stop thinking about for a year after i finished the game (Deadly Premonition, Bioshock to name a few)

2. Hundreds of hours of pure fun and no boring moments (Oblivion, Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas)

3. Last but not least, a game that has a mixture of great graphics, story, soundtrack, gameplay (Mass Effect Series, RDR)

Story.counts more than anything.

Atmosphere!!! without it,story may not seem so great.

Music!(see no. 2)

Gameplay that's not boring or repetitive.

Many and cool extras.

Replay Value.

And because we live in 2011,great graphics.

A game that is a lot of fun basically. My only two 10 ratings on GS have gone to LoZ Ocarina of Time and Demon's Souls. The latter being my favorite game of all time.

Almost endless replayability.

The only ones i would trully give a 10 - for perfection are:

  • Tetris
  • Deus Ex
  • Chrono Trigger

... i'm tempted to give Xenogears one, but a couple of minor issues that i had with it does not permit me to do so.

And that's about it..

A perfect 10 is a game that combines graphics (they don't have to be cutting edge but they have to be detailed and colorful), well designed levels/environments, efficient and intuitive controls, an entertaining story that keeps you interested throughout, replay value, and a feeling of progression.

Guild Wars (pre-nightfall), OoT, and Vice City would be my list of games scoring 10.

I don't give tens to games, no game is perfect. Well i would but i've never seen a game that deserves a 10 before. I do give out 9.5 though. Do realize that the scores i give to games are scores at the moment they came out (only wine get's better with age)

These are the 9.5's for me:

- The elder scrolls: oblivion,
- Worms 4 mayhem (i have writen a review about this)
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/worms4mayhem/player_review.html?id=753142&tag=player-reviews%3Bcontinue%3B
- Hitman 1
Hitman is a revelation in terms of sneaking, leaning, gunplay, rag-doll effect (hitman 1 is from the year 2000) , story, tension it 's an amazing game but it's more than 10 years old.
- Deus ex: amazing how this game invented rpg in a first person shooter. Just great
- Call of duty black ops (i have written a review about this)
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/callofduty7workingtitle/player_review.html?id=753480&tag=player-reviews%3Bcontinue%3B2
- Drakan: more than 10 years old but you're best friend is a dragon, third person action game with rpg elements. It's a complete fantasy world, excellent sword play,
it's one of a kind. Graphics are superb for it's age,
- Moonstone : 20 year old game, was on the amiga, Action rpg stood out with head and shoulders above everything else
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_5CZ6TqCgps
- IK + (International karate plus) : best fighting game ever made , you will have so much fun
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lMAjObaTqzA
- abe's oddworld : if you don't know this well, just google it
-dawn of war : never seen a game with so much spirit
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9gGG4fpGB_w

I could give 20 more with this score but this is only my taste

A game that doesn't end and manages to make you keep playing and having fun without getting repetitive.
Closest game ever for me has to be FM07. If it wasn't for the flawed regen system it would easily be a 10/10 for me.

Graphics, story etc doesn't really matter.

Non existent. It's not naturely possible. A headache while playing, a boring part, a faulty console with lag. It just doesn't exist. But it can be close.

Usually when they have a great personality and rocking bod...oh, wait... Just kidding; any game that sticks with me through the years (I still fondly remember most of the characters in Okami) gets a perfect 10 from me, NIER seems to be the next one though (absolutely in love with the story and characters in that game).

If a game has an interesting story, varied gameplay, provides incentive for me to explore and offers more than 20hrs of play then I'll give it a 10. I'd also toss in atmosphere. Some games just have a certain feeling to them.

Graphics aren't important to me so long as things in the game look like what they're supposed to, but a pretty game is always a welcome bonus.

A game where all the components come together to form an excellent experience and any flaws are insignificant to the overall enjoyment. Some of these kinds of games for me were:
  • Halo 3
  • Halo Reach
  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
  • Gears of War 2
  • Mass Effect 2
  • Bayonetta

Games that last a long timeand have no majorflaws. Things like Graphics and story matter for some games, but not all, itdepends on what the game is about.

For example, a survival horror needs to be scary, and to be scary I think it's important to look realistic, but an RPG isn't hindered by graphics nearly as much, but it's a nice bonus.

To get a 10/10 it needs to succeed in everything it tries to do a provide constant fun for a long time. Games that I think get that are:

Tales of the Abyss

Tales of Vesperia

Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2

For me its when a games makes me think "I couldn't have done it better myself!" When I can't think of any major change, addition or removal that would make a significant enhancement in my complete satisfaction for it.

I'd say that I judge generally by the same criteria as you. A good quality and interesting story is a must along with great and always entertaining gameplay. Graphics are definitely important aswel nowadays. If a game is released with sub-par graphics that aren't up to today's standards it can bring the experience down a bit. The entertainment factor is very crucial too. You want the game to have some redeeming values and be superbly fun to play.

Lastly, the game should be able to at least stand the test of time for a few years to come. It is unfair to ask a game to be superb 15 years down the line, but it should still be fun to play and very good 5-7 years later in order for it to be deserving of a 10.

A few games this gen that I would consider giving 10s include:

Bioshock

Red Dead Redemption

Mass Effect 2 (so far, I just started playing it a few days ago, but up to this point it is very close to 10/10 material; it remains to be seen if it can hold up through the whole game though)

Assassin's Creed II is very very close to being deserving of a 10 in my mind, but not quite there just because I'm not sure about the longevity factor. I figured I might as well include it in this list anyway though just to give a better idea of my preferences and opinions.

A game that only has a very small amount of minor flaws, hits a very high standard of quality on everything it does, is consistently fun all the way through, and is pretty much timeless

10/10 is really, really, REALLY hard to get. It has to do everythig right, Sound,Gameplay,Story, and Enjoyment

Which is why the only 2 games that will ever get a 10/10 so far from me are Uncharted 2 and Zelda.

I generally give games 10/10 if I had a blast playing it and if I can't think of any way I would meaningfully improve the game.

a 10/10 game? I expect it to be jawdropping, not perfect, just so increddibly good that there is no denying it.

It would havetop tier audio

top tier graphics.

Best story bar none

best gameplay bar none (for each respectively genre or crossover)

and level design that is flawless.

In other words: No game this gen has been a 10/10 for me, they are not the best, there havent been a game that stood out on all areas.

Usually in a gen the 10's are given from the first high quality games, due to some logic, but when you look at it objectively they have rarely been better then anything else said gen.

The highest I would award any game this gen would be around the 9/10

There has been really good games this gen, but thier overall impression, and lasting impression has been different then usual... They all give a really good first one, but when youve playied them for some time, you begin to see the flaws, and shortcommings that was hidden at start.

A game that changed my perception of gaming and becomes a sort of benchmark for every other game I play. A game where everything I like about the gameplay of the respective genre comes together. A 10/10 title doesn't need to be perfect, imo.

There's no such thing as a perfect game. I give 10's to games that I think were so good that I had to give them the highest rating. Because that's all it is, the highest rating on the scale. Gamers love to attach some sort of mistique to the number instead of taking it at face value. If you don't use it, then it's arbitrary and worthless.

I personally do not give any game a 10/10. The highest score I give is a 9.5 out of 10, that way it shows that the game is amazing, but there is always room for improvement.

For me, it's all relative. I have no problems rating a game a 10. The few that I have left me completely satisfied. And I feel they pushed the envelope in some way and deserved the recognition. A 10 need not be perfect in every way to everybody (not possible).

For me it's a game that I've been able to play for an incredibly long period of time and still enjoy it as much as I did on the first playthrough. The game must have a ton of opportunity in terms of being able to play it different ways.

This being said, the only game I've ever given a 10 is Star Ocean: Til the End of Time. The plot is forgettable, and almost every element of the game is broken in some way, but the as a whole the game has delivered more to me than any other game has by far.

Something that has tons of replay value to me is a 10. A game that I can put 100+ of playing time into and never get bored of. If I can complete the game from start to finish and immediately return to it for another experience then it's well worth the money I paid for it.

I dont think of my games with a rating, but with a rank between my other games.

My number one is god of war 3. Perfect gameplay (I know its a hack and slash, but its really a more unique combat system, I dont think they were going for that depth). The graphics and sound were amazing. Every else was top notch, and personally I liked the story up until the last 3 seconds.

Super Metroid is a game I would rate a ten. Great level design, incredible music and presentation, controls flawlessly, decent boss fights, awesome story, touching and impactful ending, and endlessly replayable. Even after 17 years, it holds its quality like no other game I've seen save a handful. These are some other games, while not perfect,I'd consider to be in the 10 range:

  • The Sands of Time
  • Mario Galaxy 2
  • Final Fantasy VI
  • Tetris DX
  • Street Fighter II
  • Batman AA
  • X-COM
  • Company of Heroes

Graphics don't really matter to me, and do not affect how id score a game, generally.

10 isnt perfect, but pretty damn close hehe. I'd give Chrono Cross, Secret of Mana and Earthbound 10s.Allicrombie

Secret Of Mana was definitely a classic, to be sure. Earthbound, I didn't give much of a chance on, but Chrono Cross I did and I walked away very disappointed with the sequel. It should have been called something else other than a sequel, a different title, because I just wasn't impressed. The only good thing about Chrono Cross, IMO, was the surperb soundtrack.

As far as the topic itself goes, I don't believe any videogame is perfect at all. Some games are a lot more fun than others, but in every videogame I've played, there's always something to improve on, even the games that do have everything right for them.
