So what is a Platformer? I've seen this term around a lot and was kind of wondering a technical definiton for it.

I've kind of come to the conclusion that it is like a Platform "Exclusive"?

Can anyone help me clear this up?

there are platforms and you have to jump on them to advance. Sometimes, you need to become creative and use special skills, the environment, or even sometimes enemies to get up to these platforms. Mario is the exact perfect definition of a platformer.
