What is the best classic Sonic Game?

What is the best original Sonic the Hedgehog game? I can't vote, I have so many good memories with all of them. But, I will say that the best music was in the Japanese version of Sonic CD. :!:

Sonic the Hedgehog has Starlight Zone and the music is just too good. And Sonic 2 for introducing the spin off. They're both viewed as my classic sonics.

I voted for adventures 1 and 2 since together they slightly beat out Sonic and knuckles imho (on there own though Knuckles beats them)

This is gonna sound crazy, but I honestly liked the Sonic Adventure games a lot. Maybe because they were one of my first games I played, but now I still think they are excellent, however buggy the first may be.

I enjoyed Sonic 2 and Sonic Adventure 2: Battle the most. But out of those, I will pick Battle.

sonic cd and since i said that im going to play it

Sonic CD, for these reasons:

1. The special stages. 1's were okay, 2's were good, 3's were an abomination, but CD's were perfect. True 2.5D, fun, and just the right difficulty. Also, I have always loved the 50 rings = giant ring at the end of the level thing.

2. Time traveling. Most of the time, it's a gimmick. However, if you spend the "time" to go to the past, destroy the generator, go to the present, and then go to the future, the "perfect future" zones were awesome. Also, 4 versions of every level is sweet and makes for excellent replay value.

3. That intro movie. Soniccccc booooooooom sonic booooooooooooom....that thing was stuck in my head for weeks when I first played it.

4. Metal Sonic. Racing metal sonic near the end is just awesome, especially since you save Amy (Before her annoying voice :p ).

Next in line, and a close tie with Sonic 1, is Sonic 1 for the Game Gear/SMS. That game is actually very well done, and is one of my favorites. And, obviously, sonic 1 the original is fantastic.

Sonic 2. That was sega and sonic at their peaks. Every part of that game just came together se perfectly

Sonic the Hedgehog 2, hands down. It's perfect combination of memorable levels, fantastic gameplay, and an excellent soundtrack made it not only as good as the original, they helped it blow the original to smithereens.

Sonic CD was good, yes, but the time travel mechanic bogged down the gameplay too much compared to other Sonic games. Plus, the spin dash was extremely clumsy and cumbersome compaired to the spin dash used in every other Sonic game since Sonic 2.

Sonic 2, all the way. Not just for how good the actual game was but for the nostalgia of what i remember when it came out. I was like 7, and all the UK press went crazy when Sonic 2 came out...

This may sound crazy but i may perfer sonic 3 cuz of its co-op play and for tails coming back to life all you need is tails to beat your enimie its simple as that

For me it's Sonic 2. Sonic 1 was brilliant, but Sonic 2 had more, bigger, better, faster. I remember when the game was previewed in Mean Machines, (great oldschool mag) and it instantly became the most wanted game for many gamers. every snippet of info on it was scoured for. there was no real internet then so info was drip fed to us through mags and lame tv shows. (games world and games master any one?)

When it was finally released, i got it for christmas that same year(was only a wee lad back then), and my younger bro andI played tha game for months. a real retro classic. Sonic 2 stands out as the most memorable for me, and the best in the series for manysonic fans.

it's such a shame that sonics character has been put through the make money quickmachine in recentyears and is now the star of someot the most derided games ever made. SonicTeam(not thesame team they used tobe mind, after creating instant classics like Sonic, NiGHTS, Burning Rangers and PSOon DC) have really been abusing their hedgehog.

there should be a petition... orsomeone should call the RSPCA... i'm sure there's a law against the things SonicTeamhave been up to... :P

Sonic 3 and Knuckles because of the elemental power ups, Hyper Sonic and Knuckles, being able to fly as Tails, Super Tails, the Knuckles levels, Doomsday Zone replay value, and arguably the best soundtrack of the Sonic series.

I like all the games on the poll but if there was an order from favorite to least favorite, it would be:

1. Sonic 3 and Knuckles

It's Sonic 2. I bought Sonic 1 & 2 at launch. Sonic 2 blew the first one away.

Sonic 2 was my favorite of the classics. Amazing level design, classic music, smooth controls, and it had the Casino zone, good stuff.

Sonic 2, closely followed by Sonic CD. They're all great though.

Yeah I heard about that from a youtube video. I showed it to some people after MJ died who also liked the classicSonic series.

Sonic 3 is my favorite I just loved the soundtrack to it I still play it on the Sega Mega Drive Ultimate Collection Sonic 2 comes close to been my all time favorite. I can't stand the 3D sonic games although Sonic Adventure 1 was good just Sonic Team just aren't as good as they used to be every Sonic game that comes out now seems to get worse.

I wish CD had been ported to Saturn
