Final Fantasy VII was probably my favourite, because of the atmosphere and it's consistent feel.

I like all of the IV-IX final fantasies, with VI being my favoritte, but not by far. X I really didn't like because of the voice acting and tedious nature of the side quests.

Chronotrigger and Final Fantasy VI came out within a year of each other. They are still the best two rpgs out there. Chronotrigger gets lumped in with final fantasy because its square and its amazing. Nothing out there can mess with the double/triple tech system. VI is my favorite because of the unique characters and the cool esper system.

My favorite would have to be a tie between VI (some people consider it III) and VII. But I still really enjoyed all of them up to and including X.

My favourite Final Fantasy is VIII. I really enjoyed the story, loved the card mini-game, and thought it looked fantastic especially since it went with the more 'realistic' approach instead of the super-deformed characters in past games. Not that there was anything wrong with the design of the previous titles but it was a refreshing change. Had some very cool monster designs as well with regards to regular, bosses, and optional bosses. Also really liked alot of the summons.

Final Fantasy X comes in at a very close second. The things that held it back for me was it's more linear approach and I really didn't care for the Blitzball mini-game.

VI. It was the epitome of the series. Then when everything went cinematic it just went downhill from there. IX was a decent try at bringing back the magic but it just never did it for me. I much prefer Square's other IP over Final Fantasy.

ff7, the game basically changed rpgs and set the stage for many rpgs today. it brought a new taste of realism with its cg cutscenes and lush visuals, but it also brought us a great fantasy world to live in, a villian who is bascially the most manipulative and bad @$$, and its unbelievable replay value with so many secrets and ultimate bosses( ruby and emerald anyone) no matter how much you level up those bosses will still be a challenge. The first game to have ultima weapon, which like all ff have now. all the major summons such as bahamut, shiva and ifrit etc. it also had the best plot and aeris's death was heartbreaking. plus this is the only ff game to have more than two spin offs.all these reasons and many more make this my favorite game of all time.

then comes X, this probaly the best in music and story cuz everything was so moving. i just love the relatiionships between the characters and how much it means to them and the people of spira to kill sin. the game had a better reason to save the world. to end the suffering and sorrow. it also had so many twists and turns and memorable moments that its safe to say its the most touching ff story ever. it was also a rebound from ff9 which i thought lacked compared to its big brothers 7 and 8. it was still good though. X was also the first ff to have voices and intergaming cutscenes.

IV is the best by far. one of the first deep storytelling RPG's to release on a console, Great Villians, Unforgettable Heroes, and great pace, there was not 1 point in FFIV where you were bored.

I agree, final fantasy IV (Final Fantasy 2 USA) for the snes was by far the best game. I really wish the series would go back to its roots and release a game similar to this verision. This also was the first RPG I ever played.

since i havent played 12, i'd have to go with X purely on battle system. it took soo long for the cross classes (which i hated, not everyone could be a mage and a warrior) and if you cared to level up everyone, each battle actually can take place where all the characters participated in the battle, not like previous ones where some characters sat out

hands down VII and Final Fantasy Tactics.

Plot alone is good enough reason why those two are the best.

No doubt in my mind, FFVIII is my favorite. From the second that intro started, I was hooked. I liked the realistic look, the music was fantastic, the story was great and changed course midway through, the characters were more human and yes, I think I related to Squall because I was 14 at that time. It's just an extremely memorable game for me. I only had an N64 up to that point and the combination of playing this and FFIX coming out finally made me invest in a PS1. I love IV, VI, and IX almost as much, but VIII takes it. XII would probably round out my top 5 FF games.

FFX followed by FFVI, I would put 6 over ten if it wasn't for the "bad pacing" at the end of the game. (not going to spoil it for people who haven't played the game.)

9, it played like Dragon Quest, only you couldn't swap jobs or get the thief out of your party. Otherwise, pretty much followed the same vein.

I would have to say Final Fantasy VIII and Final Fantasy Tactics were my favourite in the series, although I haven't played anything from X+. Don't get me wrong, VII was amazing and revolutionary, but the story in VIII was much more compelling, as were the characters and their interactions with eachother. The story really connected with me in VIII, so there may be a little bias there. As for Tactics, I shouldn't even need to begin to explain why it is so great.

Final Fantasy 3/6 was the best imo.

The storyline was the best I've ever seen and for beyond its time imo. Both FF3/6 and SeikenDensetsu3 pushed the SNES over its limits.

I would have to say my favorit Final Fantasy is VI, I loved everything about it down to the storyline and characters (shadow was my favorite) It also showed how well Square can pull it off without all the great cinematic cutscenes and how well it pushed the SNES to its potential

i thought it'd be obvious that, judging from all the spin-offs and animes made throughout the years ( and the years to come ), FF7 is the game that the majority of ff fans care the most.
