What is the best Final Fantasy game in your opinion? Why?

Chronotrigger and Final Fantasy VI came out within a year of each other. They are still the best two rpgs out there. Chronotrigger gets lumped in with final fantasy because its square and its amazing. Nothing out there can mess with the double/triple tech system. VI is my favorite because of the unique characters and the cool esper system.sackem51
Is this Chronotrigger same as Crono Cross as i have never seen this game in my life.
My favourite Final Fantasy is VIII. I really enjoyed the story, loved the card mini-game, and thought it looked fantastic especially since it went with the more 'realistic' approach instead of the super-deformed characters in past games. Not that there was anything wrong with the design of the previous titles but it was a refreshing change. Had some very cool monster designs as well with regards to regular, bosses, and optional bosses. Also really liked alot of the summons.
Final Fantasy X comes in at a very close second. The things that held it back for me was it's more linear approach and I really didn't care for the Blitzball mini-game.

Crono trigger was originallyreleasedon the SNES and Crono Cross is in the same universe, buttoa direct sequel. Both are great games and should be played by anyone that is a fan of the genre. My personal preference is for Crono Trigger though
ff7, the game basically changed rpgs and set the stage for many rpgs today. it brought a new taste of realism with its cg cutscenes and lush visuals, but it also brought us a great fantasy world to live in, a villian who is bascially the most manipulative and bad @$$, and its unbelievable replay value with so many secrets and ultimate bosses( ruby and emerald anyone) no matter how much you level up those bosses will still be a challenge. The first game to have ultima weapon, which like all ff have now. all the major summons such as bahamut, shiva and ifrit etc. it also had the best plot and aeris's death was heartbreaking. plus this is the only ff game to have more than two spin offs.all these reasons and many more make this my favorite game of all time.
then comes X, this probaly the best in music and story cuz everything was so moving. i just love the relatiionships between the characters and how much it means to them and the people of spira to kill sin. the game had a better reason to save the world. to end the suffering and sorrow. it also had so many twists and turns and memorable moments that its safe to say its the most touching ff story ever. it was also a rebound from ff9 which i thought lacked compared to its big brothers 7 and 8. it was still good though. X was also the first ff to have voices and intergaming cutscenes.
hands down VII and Final Fantasy Tactics.
Plot alone is good enough reason why those two are the best.

I have played Crono Cross, and i loved that game a lot.
I would have to say Final Fantasy VIII and Final Fantasy Tactics were my favourite in the series, although I haven't played anything from X+. Don't get me wrong, VII was amazing and revolutionary, but the story in VIII was much more compelling, as were the characters and their interactions with eachother. The story really connected with me in VIII, so there may be a little bias there. As for Tactics, I shouldn't even need to begin to explain why it is so great.
