Arcade. It has the best types of games, and making a hybrid with another genre usually equals the best. Arcade platformers, shooters, FPS, TPD, Puzzle, Racing, Driving, Mission based, Adventure, Sports, are still the best of thier core genre's.just want to know everyones opinion on what the best genre is. For me it is RPG. I grew up playing final fantasy, dragon quest and so on. But I also love racing, plataform and adventure/visual novel games.
I'd have to say RPG as well. Even if it isn't the core genre of the game, it is a wonderful secondary characteristic of games.
Example: Borderlands--decent FPS, tons of guns, solid controls, etc., but what sets the game apart from other FPSs is the RPG elements of the game.
RPGs (Western , JRPG , and some open world games) , Fighting games (2D or 3D) , Strategy games (RTS or turn based)
I like most types of games in general , including some sports games
My favorites in order:

3D "collect-a-thon" platformer with massive levels and tons of mini-games. But that's just my personal opinion.
First-Person Shooters, most of the games I like are FPS's like Killzone and Brothers in Arms. That is one of the genres of shooters I really like the most.
I generally enjoy FPS the most, also with games like Skyrim, a adventure/rpg game in first person mode. So I'd say FPS, then action/adventure games, RPGs, RTS,then fighting games, and last would be racing games.
I keep coming back to JRPGs. I get sick and play something else and immediately start thinking about which JRPG I'm going to play next. The last year or so though, I have played a ton of platformers. I enjoy later 2D ones the best where you can save your progress and beat the game w/o terrible difficulty but then still provides lots of challenges in finding extra levels and collecting extras like Super Mario World.
I can't really say which genre is the best. Each genre has a game that satisfies my need for gaming at that time. I will have to say that I am going more towards the RPG genre these days because they seem to be one of the only genre's that truly do focus on the story, rather than just the mulitplayer aspect of the game. Each system is significant for different types of genre's. Nintendo was focused more on action/adventure (Super Mario) I take a little more time trying to find what game/genre appeal to me. Again, this is only my thoughts about this.
