I thought that a platform game was a non-computer game. Now it seems to be used for older console games, even though xbox and wii and PS3 would be considered platformers. Am I mistaken???

I think that's what the OP is looking for.

A games Platform is the hardware that runs a game. Any console ever made and PC's all fall into this category. The broader meaning of the word is a means to achieve an end (something), and can be used in lots of different contexts.

A Platformer has been explained above and is considered its own type of game.
