Hands down for me it's the final boss in Shinobi for PS2. I've beaten every game I ever dedicated serious time to, and this is one of the only games I didn't finish. I plan on going back one day to remove this blemish from my record.

I never played that one, I know alot of older games didn't have an AI structure so they just made the bosses cheap and able to do things they shouldn't. Example would be old Mortal kombat games, the bosses would step right out of a combo or do moves that aren't possible. I hate when they make bosses from newer games harder than they've prepared you for.
I recall being frustrated with the boss in Condemned. I think that was more because it dragged on for a stupidly long time. Shiro in Guild Wars Factions took me dozens of tries to finish off
Personally, two immediately come to mind: 1. Ridley (Lower Norfair) in Super Metroid on an "any%" speed run, skipping the Screw Attack and having about 1-1.5 tanks worth of energy. 2. Vergil 3 in DMC3SE on Hard difficulty and up. I haven't had the "pleasure" of fighting him on Dante Must Die... but I hear it separates the boys from the men. -- One that I haven't personally faced, but have heard about, is the end boss of Shin Megami Tensai: Nocturne. He starts the battle with an attack that has a random status effect, and if one's party is not equipped with the right counter accessory, it is a one-hit KO. Also, later in the battle, he has another, unblockable one-hit attack that has a 50-50 chance of succeeding. Puts to shame anything I've ever faced.
Oh Battletoads can't even be put in this category lol!, That's in the "what boss have you never even seen?", or hardest games of all time ! I tell you, we cheated with a game genie just to see the end and had a hard time getting there.
Because if we go down the hard games to beat period, there's also Ninja turtles for NES! I only know 2 people who ever even seen the end, and I'm one of em hahaha!

I know, I couldn't finish that fricking battle, it's broken. I'm also having trouble with the flame armadillo in NGII.
warhammer 40k: dawn of war II's the avatar of khaine is really.. REALLY hard its not an easy fight hes a walking talking death machine. and terrified me to death. theres a readson hes a "bonus boss"
i dont know if this counts but, the true form of rodan from bayonetta is the ONLY boss ive never quite beaten. Mostly due to the fact that it costs 1 million halos just to fight him, (no joke there) he has a truckload of hp, he can kill you in 4 hits with ANY move and the game designers restricted the use of items.......
The last boss in the original God of War was a pain. Because it was one fo those freaking QTE things, and I hate those. I beat him the first time, but on my second playthrough I said screw it and switched it to easy difficulty.
The final boss in the first Onimusha game was pretty challenging too. Even if you had the big magic sword, he still took a fair bit of time to defeat.
The end of Primal on the PS2 seemed to involve a series of fights. And I think one of the shoulder buttons was used for attack. I remember my fingers being all cramped up by the time I finally finished that.
And Destroy All Humans had some really long boss fight that I just watched on Youtube and said heck with it. :lol:
I think the hardest final boss I faced was Tartarus from Halo 2 (The Great Journey on Legendary). I found it hard because he had a hammer that kills you in one hit, runs faster, has a shield that takes long to get rid of but the shield comes back very quickly and you'd only do little damage, and he sometimes have brutes helping him that can kill you in one hit if they go berserk.

I got inside the technodrome pretty consistently on turtles, but have never even faced shedder. I was never able to beat the second form of the last guy in ninja gaiden one on nes
The boulder in Resident Evil 5. I mean, even roided-out Chris Redfield with years of training could'nt break it, he could only move it out of the way. Now that's hard.

FFVIII? I have to try the game again but I remember forgetting to steal some materia on a fight and it broke the game.
uhh i dunno alot of bosses have been difficult but iv beat em all at one point, i guess the ninja gaiden games can have hard bosses i dunno, nothing really comes to mind
sephiroth FF7, Lavos Chrono Trigger. They can both be pretty tricky.

Neither bos was hard as long as you grinded and got the best equipment possible. The last form of Lavos was a cinch; I just had Frog be on low health and had him cast the Frog spell, the one that squashes all enemies three times. Kept on repeating that spell over and over until Lavos was defeated.
I would say Captain Blue on Ultra VRated. I have gotten to his final form, I have almost killed him, but damn, I messed up and had to restart. I WILL beat him one of these days.
Definitely Old King Allant in Demon's Souls for me. I died so many times fighting him I just ended up using a glitch (which took me half an hour) to kill him.
Shinobi is mine too, at least for a normal difficulty boss, and really I can't think of more than one or two bosses I tried on hardest difficulty that I had more trouble with than the Shinobi final boss on normal. I did beat him but I lost count of how many tries it took me to do it

Maneater from Demon's Souls on NG, that boss was a pisser. Of course once you level up and get good spells ( firestorm) and good weapons, he is pretty easy.

Shao Khan, from the new Mortal Kombat, can be frustrating, but he can be beatable. Any boss from a MK game can be beatable if you know how to exploit them very easily.
