Let's try and keep this thread spoiler-free...or at least use spoiler tags. I have quite a few, so here we go:

-Shadow of the Colossus

-Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core

-Final Fantasy VII

-Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War

That's all I can think of right now, I'm sure there will be others.

I'd include the reasons behind my picks, but the editor won't allow me to use spoiler tags. These games are fairly mainstream, so figuring out the emotional parts shouldn't be too difficult.

Many points throughout both Max Payne games I became very emotional and cried on a few occasions.

The endings of Shadow of the Colossus, ICO, Okami and Metal Gear Solid 3 were all very beautiful and made me get "misty-eyed" but they weren't emotionally "moving" like the Max Payne's were.

The only time I ever came close to crying in a video game was the ending to GTA IV, I really cared about every character

FF7 as you have said. Why, I won't say in case one of the 2 people on this planet who haven't played it yet reads this.

MGS 3 : When you see Naked Snake (not yet Big Boss at the time) standing there saluting the Bosses' grave, knowing her true nature, that was a pretty powerful ending.

Those two made me actually shed a tear. Yep. I've said that before and will say it again.

Mass Effect on the other hand had a different effect on me. Upon completion of the game and seeing the vast tale of human drama and struggle, it literally made me sit there for 15 minutes after the credits rolled and think... "Is this a possibility of where humans are heading?". It was a metaphor for all of the hate and prejudice in the world, but spread upon a galactic scale, and showed how people can change things if they try, not to better their own lives, but all of those around them.

That was pretty powerful to me.

I choked up a little bit during Lost Odyssey when you unlock the first dream called "Hannah's Departure" It was a very sad little story, I love kids, actually studying child psychology, and that story really pulled the ole heart strings a little

Most emotianal well i would have to say most recently mgs4, several scenes mde me shed a tear, the ending of that game was probably the most powerful ending ive ever seen in any media entertainment.

and also ffx right at th end it was just such a harsh ending and made me ask myself why did it have to be like this.

I am also going to agree with during several scenes of MGS4 and the end of MGS3.

For me I also was quite moved with the end of FFX...but not many games make me emotionally moved but those three did as so far I can remember...

for me it was the ending to Syberia...

also when I was younger I thought the 'bad' ending for Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was sadder and more moving than the 'real' ending.

Shadow of the Collossus really got me feeling the moment at the end of the game. All that hard work really hammered me.

Also the scene in Final Fantasy XII between Balthier and his father towards the end of the game was really touching... considering that playing the game to learn more about Balthier, really hit home.

hmm, depends what you mean by 'emotion'. Sure you've got your teary-eyes games, but i like to include any game that went beyond just a feeling of 'completed!' once the credits rolled.

So i'll include Portal, Indigo Prphecy, MGS series, Shadow of the Colossus and Ico in my list.

There are very few moments that have had an emotional effect on me - not that it doesn't happen, but videogames are a medium notorious for shallow characters and stories.

Having said that.

The end of Max Payne 2. Specifically, the last handful of panels, after everything Max has been through. The song they chose for the credits works with it as well.

The Darkness. No spoilers, but the end of the first chapter. It almost feels a bit cruel on the developer's part since they force you to invest into the characters as much as the Darkness itself forces you to do nothing but watch.

That's all that comes to mind. I can think of a lot of moments developers obviously wanted to be emotional but failed at.

Definitely in a clan match on Rainbow Six 1 when it was tied up and my team camped the roof on library (I know a gay thing to do but it was seriously exciting).

This quote from MGS 1 got to me "Snake. We're not tools of the government, or anyone else. Fighting was the only thing...the only thing I was good at. But...at least I always fought for what i believed in."

*MGS4 SPOILER*

When you go back to Shadow moses and find the socom pistol and aim it Snake says "that brings back memories", well that gave me a fuzzy feeling inside, especially with "the best is yet to come" in the background.

***SPOILERS***

The most emotional for me was in MGS2 (the first MGS game I played). The part where you had to rescue Hal's sister Emma. When walking on the oil fence where Vamp showed up, I beat him, but I thought I shot Emma and saw her bleed when in fact Vamp stabbed her in the back. The cutscene's that entrailed after that had me sobbing. Sobbing. The rarest moment in a game wher I was so connected to all the characters.

Also, GTAIV's greed ending had me feeling really bummed out for awhile, no tears, but a hollow feeling.

I know... :( I used to have many friends in COD1 on PC who I never see again... :'( But fortunately I still have a few of them who I often talk to and sometimes we play COD1 together. :)

The ending to Final Fantasy X was pretty heart-breaking.
