unlike most gamers that whine and complain about gameplay and graphics. I learnt to play with a sense of mind by looking at the game seeing when it was released and setting my mind to go "if I was playing this game when it was released would I be enjoying this?". Instead of people that play the newer stuff then go back to the older stuff and say "wow that game is crappy..... ima go play something that looks prettier instead"
So when I played it for the vary first time 2 weeks ago I was blown away at how awesome the game was. Sure it was like "wow there is alot of blur in the game for cinematics" but after 10 mins I basically learnt to forget about that and to just play and enjoy the game.
So after playing it for the first time a couple weeks ago I wills say its a amazing game that is really big and has lots of things to do. But if you want to compare it to todays standards then its about a medium sized game that can be amusing if your not picky or a whiny female dog.
Hell yeah. Vice City is still my favorite in the series, followed by III.famicommander
Vice city was the first game I played of the series and I loved it. I damn my friend for making me fall in love with vice city xP But after playing GTA 3 and thinking about it Vice city is the best followed bty GTA3 and then sanadreas was the worst.

I agree. I hated San Andreas. I don't much care for the new one either. VCS and LCS were decent enough for handheld games.I just want to say that GTA 3 had the best world for any GTA game released. (overrated IV included) The jumps were simply fantastic. Driving around in GTA3 was highly amusing and "sidewalk" driving hasn't been the same since. I miss the fact that I could go at full speed while plowing through peds.
Still I place the GTA games like this:
GTA:SA > VC=GTA3 >GTA IV
I think so yeah. You might have a problem with the graphics..but its still a fun game.VinnoT
why ? its graphics are cartoonish so it still looks great imo. ( well thats coming from someone who doesnt care graphics much, maybe its biased )
but i dont play a game after i finish it unless, its so great and fun, like MGS, SotC, DMC3. GTA3 is finished and rests in peace among other finished games that are not touched again...
however its still my favorite even though SA is the best
I would play both GTA3 and Vice City again for one reason, the rampages. It was a really bad move to take those out of San Andreas and replace them with whatever that 2 player crap is, I've never done one of those. But for just playing around I would take San Andreas.
I thought it was great when it came out, and is still a great game today. Like others said it's kind of hard to go back to, but if you can get past the graphics, and play the game for what it is, I think anyone who likes the other games can still have fun with it.
Are the GTA games related (is there a story line that connects the GTA games)? brownthrillaYes. Claude Speed, the main character from 1, 2, and 3, can be found in San Andreas. Ken Rosenthal, Tommy Vercett from Vice City's lawyer. is also in San Andreas. The crime family which runs Tommy's operation can be found in GTA III, Liberty City Stories, and Vice City. Many characters appear throughout the series like Phil Cassidy. They all take place in the same universe, and there are many more examples of links between the games.
best is gta3. i havnt played gta4 yet but i ofcourse plan to when 1 of my friends get it or my brother does if he is that is. i did enjoy gta vc but its not like gta3 with all the big buildings and the mafia and all that. gta vc is more based on scarface. gta sa i hated the most. too much gang related things and its completly stupid. you play as a gang member whos mother was raped and murdered by the cops. your sister is on welfare and is most likely screwing the whole neiborhood and your after a cop who cant stop eating donuts. whats the point?
gta3 has more of a story about being betrayed and revenge. and is more on the topic of the big crime families like the mafias and triads and more. and its more in close up building enviorments. city like games are my kind of places. so i say gta3 and gta4 is the best.
I actually couldn't say. I haven't played GTA-GTA III in at least half a decade. As I remember them, I enjoyed them all far more than San Andreas or GTA IV. In the here and now, I probably would still enjoy GTA III more than the latter iterations. If I played GTA III, I would probably enjoy it immensely for a short period of time due to nostalgaic memories, while I didn't enjoy GTA IV "immensely" at any point in time up to 24% when I returned it. BUT, that doesn't mean GTA III is inherently better than GTA IV either. GTA IV has more depth, better graphics, better AI, fully realized cinematic pseudo-film noir aesthetics, variety in missions/character models/automobiles, et cetera. The only thing it doesn't have is personal reference, which really can be a deal breaker for everyone where the comparison of a franchise's iterations is concerned.
So...would I rather play GTA III? Yes. Would I recommend it over San Andreas or IV? No.
I also really hope people don't believe that it was a "defining" game last generations. It simply brought a previously existent IP and concept into a three-dimensional world. Ideas like that magnify the flaws within our community and the industry we hold so dearly. GTA was innovative on the PSX, and perfected on the PS2, then cliche and contrived on the PS3/360. I suppose it was defining in terms of sales and the nature and trajectory of the industry and the way the series has both influenced and reflected that, but that certainly has negative connotations along with the positive.

If you turn trails off in the options menu it gets rid of the horrible blur and makes the game look alot sharper. Works on Vice City too. :)
In my opinion GTA3 is still the best in the series (haven't played GTA 4 as it's not on PC yet).
GTA 3 has lots of missions, great music and the map is quite big but not so big that it takes ages to memorise the fastest routes through it.
That reminds me i've not played it since last year so I think it might be time to install it again.
i tried to play it again after i beat San Andreas........ lasted a few minutes then I realized I can't go back to playing that game again. I never beat it, and probably never will. BUT when it first came out I loved the game. I think the series evolved nicely from GTAIII to San Andreas. Talldude80same here I played it for 5 minutes and it bothered me becase the graphics seemed outdated, but they were good at the time when it came out
It is the only GTA3 and can stand playing and I absolutely love it- probably my favorite game this generation.
I've played VC, SA, and LCS and I disliked all of them and only finished VC painfully and no where near %100. I've beat GTA3 %100 several times now. I really hope I can fall in love with GTA4, Libery City setting is awesome! I would have bought a PS3 for GTA4 but sony no longer makes a BC PS3 so I guess they lost a customer.
