How many of you guys are done with them?

How many of you guys are still sticking with them?

and why?

I am completely torn right now, between sticking with them especially since other than SMG1 and 2, Twilight Princess, Super Paper Mario and Metroid Prime 3, I didn't particularly like many of their games. I did not like the controls in Skyward Sword, and didn't feel like it came close to Twilight Princess standards. It felt more anime-ish rather than fantasy dark theme. Nothing wrong with anime, but its not my thing.

I need help coming to a conclusion so I want to see what you guys think of Nintendo and your willingness to continue supporting them or not.

Thank you.

I love Nintendo, but so far I see absolutely no good reason to buy a Wii U. If I liked Pikimin, maybe that could justify it... But I don't. Sooo... *shrug*.

The state of gaming in general deeply disturbs me.

Still my favorite company. They make games I want, I buy, I enjoy. Disappointed in the direction they took with the wii(underpowered), but I think it turned out alright game wise. The 3DS is great and worth the $170 I paid. WiiU will be a day 1 buy for me, of course.

I still admire a handful of their franchises, but I think Nintendo has done more to fuc* the industry up than any other modern gaming company. Change for the sake of change, sold under the guise of, "Hey, this current thing is bad we need to change it" with no firm explanation as to why change is needed and in what form it should take has been disastrous. And I wouldn't have minded if it had only infected Nintendo, but it turned Microsoft into a bunch of braying jackasses too.

I gave up on them with the Wii. I don't think I'll have any interest in the Wii U since we'll get the newer Sony/Microsoft systems not too long after.

What do you mean by their "state"? They're about the same as they've ever been.

Personally, i was a Nintendo fan before i considered myself a gamer and before i even knew there were different companies. i loved anything pokemon, i played Mario 64, Starfox 64, and all of the Smash bros. games.

But starting about a year after the Wii was released, i realized that Nintendo was going all thr wrong places. The Wii motion system was a great innovator and spurred alot of new technology, but it has turned into mostly a gimmick.

The games for it are not up to par with modern day games, and the controls are downright annoying. most of the success Nintendo has had is mostly reboots of past franchises.

They are constantly attempting to bring out new hardware but always fall short because the games are not very good quality, and the consoles are very gimmicky. I feel bad for nintendo, seeing as how they raised me up to the gamer i am today, but to be honest, i almost completely disregard them in comparison to Sony and Microsoft.

What is the Wii U really? its not a next-gen console. its Nintendo's attempt to catch up to the current market. and i dont think it will do very well.

Love the 3DS. DS is my favorite seventh generation platform overall Wii is my favorite seventh generation home console (fourth overall behind DS, PSP, and PC) Planning to get a WiiU unless it comes with some surprise anti-consumer nonsense or costs way too much. Nintendo, I feel, is the only one of the three console manufacturers that has a good understanding of the balance between games as art and games as business. Sometimes they piss me off just like Microsoft and Sony do (see: lack of localizations, region locking, peripheral overload) but on the whole I still feel like they value my long term loyalty much more than the other two companies. They don't make me shuffle through endless ads on my console, they don't make me pay for online play, they don't engage much in DLC whoring, their system updates are generally infrequent and quick, etc. Further, I still feel that the largest first and second party Microsoft and Sony games (Halo, Fable, Gears, God of War, Killzone, Resistance, Uncharted) emphasize flash over substance in almost every case. The removal of player input and interaction in favor of scripted sequences, drawn out cinematics, and generally uninspired "checklist" game design. But looking at Nintendo series such as Zelda, Metroid, Mario, Smash, DK, Pokemon, etc the main draw is what it has always been with Nintendo systems: game design.

After 25 years I switched to Sony this gen. Sony puts out more games then Nintendo. However I do enjoy Nintednos games more then Sony's.

I'm gonna wait on the WiiU. I can't justify spending the money for just one game (pikmin 3). I perdict long droughts of Nintendo exclusives on the WiiU. I'll wait 5 or 6 years after it comes out and get the few Nintenod exclusives it has.

I could care less about 3rd party support on the WiiU. I already have a PS3 for that. Gimmic tacked on motion controls won't change my mind.

I love Nintendo, and I'm happy with what they are doing. My only complaint is that some of their games are far too easy. I had over 100 lives by the end of Super Mario 3D Land and barely died at all. They need to find a way to make their games more challenging for more experienced/skilled people.

Largely positive. Not only are they providing tons of incredible first party games, but they are running a very solid, profitable business that should help keep the console gaming industry afloat for years.

The only thing I hate that Nintendo put out this gen is TLoZ: Skyward Sword. Hate is too strong of a word, so I'll go with 'strongly dislike'. I think the Wii is a better system than N64 was, but nowhere near as good as Gamecube.

I also think DS had the best library of this generation.

As far as consoles go this gen, I rank them: PS3>Wii>360

I've been a Nintendo fan for 20 years and I'm sorry to say Nintendo started a downwards spiral after Yamauchi retired in 2002. Disagree all you like, but I think they're at the lowest point in their history right now, with a focus on casual gaming, the same tired franchises rehashed over and over with little innovation and poor quality third party support. Aside from Zelda they serve no purpose to me whatsoever.

They lost me as a fan but I think that's due to my changing taste more than anything. Super Mario Galaxy couldn't hold my interest, but I know I'd have loved it as a kid. Same with Skyward Sword. If they were to make something a bit more "adult" (and I'm not just talking about violence or nudity) I'd be interested in seeing it, but as far as I can tell, they keep rehashing the same franchises.

In the age of Red Dead Redemption, Assassin's Creed, Heavy Rain, Portal, Skyrim, Dark Souls, Uncharted, etc., Nintendo just seems... obviously lacking.

Honestly all you people are overthinking yourselves or your just jumping on the hate Nintendo bandwagon either way.

Nintendo hasn't changed all the much people there still trying new things like they always have with their consoles and there listening to the fans and are giving us Pikmen 3 and a Mario game for launch. I'm also having a great time with my 3DS recently. Sure we got a lot of shovelware on Wii but you gotta remember none of it really came from Nintendo it was just lazy third party devs trying to cash in on the popularity. We still got tons of great games from them on the Wii and the DS lineup of games is ridiculously amazing the third party games on the DS are better than the 1st party Nintendo games.

And besides Nintendo is the only company that hasn't turned completely greedy yet with DLC and tey still look at games the same way they did 20 years ago. They stick to their roots and thats a very good thing. They remember what made they good in the first place and they keep on doing it.

I used to hate Nintendo but then I realzied they're the shining light of the console industry. They're against all the things I hate about this industry: DLC, half finished games, sloppy controls, rollercoaster frames-per-second and oh god.. cinematic experien *throws up*. God I'm so tired of WATCHING games. I'm 27 and have been gaming for all my life. When I pick up games nowdays I turn them off after halv an hour. Why? 15 minute intros. Whack-A-Mole based cover shooters. Bad controls. I just want to PLAY my games not watch a god damn movie. I'm going Nintendo next generation because I know they'll deliver high quality games with amazing GAMEPLAY.

id still have a hard time going a console generation without some nintendo games. i think some of their series' are starting to get into the dangerous practice of focusing too much on cutscenes, which makes me worry about the state of nintendo after miyamoto leaves, but i still dont see that stance changing anytime soon.

I love most of Nintendo's games, and I've loved the experimental games that third parties have put out on the DS and Wii, and I look forward to both of those things on the 3DS and WiiU.

But that's about it. I'm beyond the point of "supporting" a company just for the sake of supporting them. If their system looks like it'll have enough of what I want to justify buying it, I will.

As for the state of Nintendo in general, it's hard to say. The WiiU can't really look any more mediocre than it does right now, but gamers have a HORRIBLE track record of predicting the fate of Nintendo's systems before they launch. I kind of feel like the fact that I'm so skeptical of the WiiU means that it'll be a huge success.

L0L wut? Opinion or not, that's ridiculous. Stating that you are done with them yet still fall back on Zelda (which is the least innovative and most rehashed series they have) is laughable and contradictory.

Their games are fine, even with poopy hardware they still put out a variety of good quality games. With the release of the Wii U and the 3rd party support it's going to get, I'm more curious about the state of the 360. With it's low abundance of exclusives and old hardware who needs it when you can get the multiplats on a Wii U or PS3?

Yeah but Zelda somehow manages to stay fresh, at least to my taste. It also comes out once every 5 years, which helps a lot.

I think Nintendo trying to appease "core gamers" is an exercize of folly. Those of us who started with Nintendo when we were young have matured (well, arguably) and now demand more sophisticated and mature content. Why should we expect them to change? Why not continue to make quality accessible games that are safe for the next generation of young gamers? No one expects Disney to start making R rated films to appease "core moviegoers" and we shouldn't expect the same from Nintendo. There are at least two dozen games on the Wii that are better than anything that has been made for Kinect (except Sesame Street and Dance Central). I want today's young gamers to have quality games, not shovelware, so that they fall in love with gaming and the market continues to grow.

This is a good point, because the industry is so focused on multiplatform titles. The unique capabilities of any Nintendo console force a choice on publishers/developers: do we focus on the Nintendo console at the expense of the others or do we go "mainstream" and tack on some feature to take advantage of the Nintendo console? This generation has been a testament to the latter.

Nintendo is and will always be awesome.

  1. They dont release a game until it is polished.
  2. Their hardware never dies.
  3. They always include backwards compatibility.
  4. They havent come out against used games.
  5. They havent jacked us with rip off DLC.
  6. Online is always free.
  7. Wii virtual console games will be transfered to your Wii U.

On a negative note they still need to get up to date with their online systems and 3rd party support must increase (I know the Wii U looks promising, but im still not convinced.)

I think the Wii and Wii U sucks ass but I respect Nintendo because they are creating their own lane for better or worse and are not afraid of taking risks. We need more companies and people like this in general who are willing to try different things instead of following the same ol formula with a few tweaks which is basically what Sony and Microsoft are doing.

In terms of core console gaming, they've kind of painted themselves into a Mario/Zelda/Metroid corner. Little else gets released and that little isn't really supported by Nintendo (look at the treatment of Xenoblade) or its audience (despite the Wii's massive installed base and a lack of competition, the sales of Xenoblade were terrible everywhere).

But such intense conservatism seems to be the trend in retail gaming nowadays, so while Nintendo once stood out for its shameless, endless milking of a tiny handful of franchises, now quite a few big publishers are following in their footsteps. Hopefully this is an end of generation thing and not a trend.

Preferably, next gen I will only need a Nintendo console, but I know that all of the great JRPGs are probably going to be on the Sony system, while multiplats are on PC. Right now, first-party Nintendo games are good enough to justify my ownership of the Wii, and it will probably be the same with the WiiU.

[QUOTE="MirkoS77"]I think Nintendo is a paltry shell of its former self. Ever since Yamauchi left and Iwata took over, things have gone downhill. Nintendo's got the talent, but the management leaves a lot to be desired.nintendoboy16

No, things went downhill when Yamauchi messed everything up with his mistakes. Iwata at least tries to patch things up, but history prevents them from doing so.

Mistakes, such as?
