So Ive just completed Dead Space, and I wanted to know what was the scariest moment for you.

For me, its either the baby lab part in Chapter 2, or in Chapter 10 when you have to escape the regenerating creature.

What was your scariest moment ? Also post which platform you played the game on. I played it on PC.

I was never really scared playing that game, with everything dropping ammo and money when dead.

You mean like 99.9% of the game? But the scariest point of the game would be going into that crashed ship and fighting those ******* fast necromorphs.

Only scary moment is right at the start, when you're unarmed and the necromorph chases you towards the elevator.

it was scary, the only reason it wouldn't be scary is if you play in the daytime around other people or while in party chat mode on XBL, I like playing it by myself, late at night, surround sound cranked up, lights off, under the influence of legalized weed would probably make it better

For me, it was one of the battles with that thing that couldn't be killed. I managed to run into another room, got to the elevator i'd been trying to get to and breathed a huge sigh of relief. I neglected to remember that these things could come through the vents though. I don't think i've ever screamed so much in my life. It was so satisfying when I finally got rid of that thing.

This game wasnt scary and I didnt jump once. And yes half of it I did play at one in the morning with no one around. Didnt even jump at Nicole in the end.

Dunno why, just playing the game, having control over my character is way less scary than not like in a movie.

The problem with fear in a game is that I have mosnter and other problems to deal with and can not feel fear.

Yeah, that probably got me the most. Though I was on edge for the majority of the game, just worried that something was going to pop out of somewhere and I wanted to be ready for it. The regenerating monster was pretty scary though. Things that don't die are the worst!

DS was a one trick pony. The whole "omg creature jumping from floor grate, hole in wall, from behind something" element was pretty much dead for me after it happened twice.

The game was pretty disappointing, it failed to scare me throughout the entire gameplay, it's not suppose to be a horror game, more like sci-fi or something. The only part that made me jump a bit and put a smile in my face was at the very end of the game when your on the space shuttle.

Had to be the crashing ship part , I like it how you think you win after you beat the big baddy outside , only too see a military ship slowly comes to you and crashes to you . I was freaking shooting at it and saying : AAAAAAAHHH NO NO NO NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" Good stuff :).

I didn't make it through the whole game; it being incredibly predictable and tedious and what not... but at no point was I ever "scared." The game felt less "horror" than almost every "horror" game I've ever played, even Resident Evil 4... at least there was tension in RE4 before you got the shotgun that could blow through an entire crowd of enemies.

System Shock 2 scared me so much, I stopped playing it and haven't gone back to it in about 2 years now. And it has some of the crappiest 3D graphics ever and was able to scare me more than any other game I've ever played in my life. That say a lot about the current state of the "horror" genre.

It didn't help that the entire atmosphere was based off of Doom 3's artstyIe (blood everywhere on the walls), had way too much ammo and had a music score that got menacing before you were about to come across an enemy.

Wow, two people who agree with me?! Gah, I feel like such a loner when I talk about how much I hate that game. I agree with everything above poster said. Man, the game felt like a huge rip off of Doom 3 in it's art style. Plus a main character who didn't talk = me not caring at all about the character = me not connecting with the character = me not being scared. Plus the game just wasn't scary anyway.

To the first poster on the second page.

Just because it isnt scary doesnt mean its bad. Tension in Resident Evil 4? Really? Necromorphs chasing you without a weapon on you. Necromorphs in the vents being able to hear them crawling. The blood everywhere. The music. The pop up, pretend to be dead.

I dont think you played it.

Has for tedious and boring I understand its your opinion but really? The guns are the only guns I could ever call revolutionary. The Zero-G and puzzles were great. The disermeberment was great, instead of just headshots. It was a change of pace from Zombies. It was a breath of fresh air. The last 4 chapters really opened up. In resident evil 4 I love the parts were you run around the village out of ammo and searching for some, and Dead Space did exactly that the last 4 chapters.

Lol, I'm sorry, but while Leon was written stupidly and not the best character, having a character that doesn't say a word is the SINGLE WORST CHOICE A GAME DEVELOPER CAN MAKE, atleast when it comes to story. At that point I really don't care. I didn't care for his missing wife or girlfriend or whatever it was, I didn't care for him, I didn't care for the whole world. Personally only 2 games I know of imo in which I forgive a completely silent main character and that's just because the game is almost perfect everywhere else, Half Life 2, and Bioshock. Plus RE4 wasn't really scary except for a few choice parts, but it just had this tension I have never felt in a game before except for maybe..heavy rain. Not scary, but this feeling of "I really don't want to die". Especially with that Chainsaw man, and some of the boss fights.

I still dont get the tension thing, especially since the Chainsaw man/woman was not scary or tense rising (or whatever you wanna call it), but its of course your opinion. Anyways I liked the silent character and the end was awesome and a great way to end your connection with him. Its funny a whole thread (forgot where) said the silent character just raised tension.

When you're scared, you don't want to proceed (but if the game is done well enough, of course you do), you wonder whats lurking behind every corner, you're super cautious.

Tension is you gripping the controller tighter, getting yourself way more into the game than you typically are in games, eyes fixated directly at the screen, sweaty palms. That kind of stuff.

And yeah..I still hate silent characters. Unless they're deaf or something, or they have an explanation for it, completely unrealistic and breaks my connection instantly. Because to me, it goes from controlling a character (or "person" if the game is good enough) to controlling a doll the second I learn the character doesn't speak. I'll admit I didn't get to the end of the game. I just couldn't. Had no interest in it after 5 or so chapters.

I understand, Im always trying to get across that Im not an idiot looking to change an opinion.

But I know what tension is :P. There was none in either Resident Evil 4 or Dead Space. I guess neither were scary or tense. But I didnt judge the game has a Survival Horror. More has an action adventure.

And I sortve got used to a silent protagonist in Dragon Age. Probably the 10th game I ever played (yes I started gaming recently) and I loved it, and I got past it.

Anyways I think Dead Space 2 perfects the protagonist. There were moments in dead space where kendra betrayed you that I just wanted Isacc to scream. But there were other times were I prefer he would shut up. So I guess something like leon except well written is a perfect character in a lot of games. Which is what the new Isacc seems to be.

I haven't played Dragon Age yet but knowing it's a bioware game you are able to like..talk to the characters just not in audio dialogue form right? But yeah, that's off subject, in fact anything but saying our scariest parts in Dead Space is off topic so I'll stop here. I get opinion too. You like the game, and I don't. And since you played MGS4, you must have a PS3, quickly I will recommend Heavy Rain. It's really a unique game experience. And one of the best games to play if you're new to gaming.

Yeah that is how Dragon Age works.

And I do really want Heavy Rain, just Im only 14 and my Mom doesnt allow nudity in my video games, but the day she allows it or I turn seventeen this game and many others will be in my hand.

It does look amazing and hopefully can be my inception fo video games. There are none yet. MGS4 is the batman dark knight of video games to me.

Ahh, yeah. Heavy Rain is pretty mature. And there is digital man ass! :o Well, when you can get it, enjoy it! Atleast you'll know it'll be a whole lot cheaper then.

I hope so. It might drop to like 20 and then go back up because of rarity.

And yes digital man butt is not good for my eyes.

Mom says they'll melt.
