OK, this is going to be very surprising or maybe it isn't. I was not going to get Blacklist, but the more I read about the game and seeing the interviews that's happened, with little info dropped thus far, I decided to make Blacklist one of my most anticipated games of 2013, since it's coming out sometime in the spring. I guess my love of Conviction won me over on Blacklist, seeing as to how it will still keep that action-feel to it while keeping it as stealthy as possible. I've also heard of original features, such as moving bodies and Sam's tactical suit, making their return in this as well. So it made me think - what do I want out of Blacklist, the next game in the series? This is what I would love to have in this new installemtn of the series.

-Voice of Michael Ironside still as Sam, although I will have to get used to this Eric Johnson character, who I believe is better off pulling off the physicality of Sam while Michael should just provide the voice, as always. He'll always be Sam to me. No ifs, ands, or buts.

-Variety of maps to play with. Conviction had a lot of maps to check out, but I feel it is a bit too short. It is my hope that they include more maps to check out in Blacklist and have some kind of environmental factors into it, such as rain.

-The artificial intelligence, aka AI, needs to be beefed up. Let's face it, while the AI was smart enough to check for you or, if they spotted you, tried to corner you in one position, you could easily flank around them. I hope they are smarter and a bit more realistic in looking harder or deeper enough to where you are and not just in one area. Also, they should check for remote mines and use some kind of tools to detonate them, similiar to what the thugs in Batman Arkham City do when they see a Sonic Batarang and destroy it.

-There needs to be a fine balance between action and stealth. I hear that upgrading your suit will aid you in that instance, so I think that shouldn't be a problem.

-I must admit, I have not played the originals (as of yet), so I have no clue as to what Spies Vs Mercs is. I guess I'll find out when I play Blacklist. However, I do want co-op back and with more players, possibly up to four if possible. Being in a team of two is great, but four people involved is a much better experience.

-Also, no infinite pistol until you are rewarded for it. It made any of the scenarios, no matter what difficulty it was set on. And I want challenges to be that; challenging, but easier. Having to work on a P.E.C. challenge, like Full Recovery, was time-consuming and frustrating.

That's all I can think of for the time being, so I'm just wondering from you guys...

What do you want out of Splinter Cell: Blacklist. What do you want to see return and what do you want to see gone? Please discuss and keep it civil between us all. Thank you! :)

I want actual stealth back, not just a really crappy TPS with a "You either see me or you don't" stealth system.

  • IRONSIDE DAMMIT
  • For the dark environments to largely outweigh the outdoor daytime environments shown at E3
  • Get rid of mark and execute or whatever they called it
  • The return of the various elements that Conviction removed- moving bodies, hacking, lockpicking, a knife, etc
  • A lengthy challenging campaign of at least 10 hours.
  • Chaos Theory-esque level design with multiple pathways

Lethal and painful. His previous adventures have shown us that Sam is no slouch when it comes to knocking the bad guys around so if he can continue to build upon this solid foundation in Blacklist I will consider my basest desires sated.

Nice topic! I want to see it head back to the Chaos Theory days. I want the game to harshly punish me if I'm careless and become exposed. I'd like to see an action oriented approach discouraged and relegated to a last resort. I don't want to feel like a one-man army. Action and lethality should be an option if absolutely necessary, but still heavily frowned upon. I'd like a little realism, i.e. not being able to clear out a room of five guys in 10 seconds. I would like to see level design that is conducive to stealth gameplay and tactics. I think if you design levels where both action and stealth are equally viable options, level design has to be somewhat compromised to afford equal opportunities for both. Aside from that, as you said, better A.I. would be great. By the way, you really need to play the originals. They're some incredible games. Maybe to kill time until Blacklist releases?

Removal of some of the new "cheaper" systems and to bring back some of the older mechanics. A stealth game feels so cheap without the depth.

I can't help but agree. The kills in Conviction were pretty weak, except for the ones that counted with M&E or when you did CQC with the silenced pistol or when you snapped their necks. According to a recent Q&A with the developer of the game, Blacklist will have insane lethal and non-lethal kills this time around, kills that are exactly what you wanted; lethal and painful.

Frankly, I hope it will sell poorly. This might lead Ubisoft to rethink their disastrous idea of shutting out Michael Ironside.

I think it was the other way around. Michael Ironside more than likely demanded a huge paycheck that Ubisoft couldn't afford, so he didn't do the project.

They offered him a secondary narrator role in lieu of the lead role he helped define. They obviously didn't want to hire an expensive actor anymore, so they cut him off and hired a cheap noob, which is enough for me to write the game off my day-1 purchase list.

I would like to see a mix between conviction style game play and the older style of Splinter Cell game play. Conviction seemed really dumbed down, but it was still fun to play. Mixing up bits and pieces of the two styles would keep things interesting IMO.

Michael Ironside couldn't be the VA forever, so it's good they changed it up. You could at least give the new guy a chance to prove his chops. The last SC game I played was Chaos Theory, so I'm just hoping for a good game I'll get a chance to play eventually.

It looks fun, taking the lethal and fast paced action of Conviction with more tactical maneuvering and abilities (like moving bodies and calling guards over) like in previous titles. Honestly though, it doesn't make sense for them to get rid of the person who is in essence, Sam Fisher. I don't understand why publishers feel the need to do that with established characters like Agent 47 and Sam Fisher. Its like having Nolan North be the voice of Max Payne in Max Payne 4, and even lesser established characters (like removing Kirk Acevedo in The Darkness II) impact the game negatively since it removes us from the fiction when someone who is supposedly the same person sounds entirely different.

I actually wouldn't be against it if it was a new character using Eric Johnson and not Sam, with Sam being the head of Fourth Echelon now he would do well as a support character to a new generation of Splinter Cells, and they could us Johnson to voice this new guy.

I also hope the game is actually optimized on PC, since Conviction ran like poop, had constant cloud save issues, couldn't let me play with my friends (unless we got pricey Port Forwarding software apparently) and required me to always be online. I could just get the console version if that happened though.

A new protagonist.

Sam Fisher is a badass but his story is complete. To keep the plot interesting we need a new character to establish a connection with the major plot.

Everything from Conviction onward is going to become redundant with Sam. I will become emotionally disinterested.

Now, I am going to have to disagree with this one. Acevedo was awesome, but I think Brian Bloom had a lot more range.

I'd like to see a compromise between Conviction, Chaos Theory, Deus Ex and the Batman Arkham games. I'd like to be able to drag bodies, hack terminals, dispose of enemies in non-lethal manners and feel extremely weak in firefights. Sure, Fisher is a top Op. and can probably outgun most people out there - he shouldn't be able to take down squads of ten men in open firefights, repeatedly. Deus Ex: Human Revolution, boss fights aside, is a good parameter for the developpers - without the open-world (can't see it making much sense in the Splinter Cell universe). I'd also like to see more environment interactions, that aren't as static as shooting chandeliers or explosive barrels (barricading doors, creating alternate pathways, etc.).

It makes perfect sense to get rid of the person who voices Fisher if you view the decision from an economical choice as opposed to a creative one.

The Splinter Cell series is massive. Ironside knows this (and that he's largely responsible for that success). He has established his voice as that of Sam's and only Sam's in all previous games, and he is now demanding a check that is more than Ubi is willing to pony up. He knows that he will have angry fans to use as leverage against and pressure them if they refuse what price he is asking for, but I guess Ubi is unwilling to budge and are biting the bullet on this one.

That's the way it works. You establish yourself and become known as the "one and only", get a bunch of fans and recognition, then play your cards. It's just hilarious that after Ubi refuses Ironside that they then come out and say the reason he's not the voice of Sam anymore is due to his age and his inability to perform motion capture that a younger actor could do. I suppose that's better than saying "We're too cheap", even though it's outright insulting to the intelligence. Heck, I highly doubt Ironside even did motion capture for ANY of the games all the way back to the first.

Trust me, you can rest assured that the reason he's not voicing Fisher is MONEY. At this point, he's probably tired of voicing Sam and is looking to retire. So he really has nothing to lose by asking for more. He wants to make it worth his while. Don't buy the garbage Ubi is shoveling. It sucks for us fans, but it saves them money, and the bottom line is what they care about.

Less military-army-tacticool-juvenile-powerfantasy-slowmo-badass-XxeLiT3xX tone, and more well, Splinter Cell.

Hell, I didn't mind Conviction despite its glaring faults and change in direction. Blacklist is just disheartening from what I've seen.

I know I am being cynical, but to those wishing for the return of more stealth elements...it most likely won't happen. SC as it was in Chaos Theory and prior is dead. I am very unhappy with the direction the franchise is going, and thus, will not be buying anything SC related again.

it begs the question why on earth did they decide to change the game style?

they had more or less perfected the espionage stealth genre with chaos theory, had legions of fans, received rave reviews from the gaming press and sold well across the world.

so why on earth change the winning formula?? their failure to deliver a this gen chaos theory is borderline criminal

They could have gotten a large number of complaints about the slow pacing of the game or they they are just doing the same thing. More likely they want to be innovative and try something new.

I want everything Conviction didnt have.

  • Jumping
  • Split Jump
  • Crouch Landing
  • Hanging off pipe ( neck submission, aiming )
  • Defensive & non lethal equipment ( stick shockers, Ring Airfoils, etc )
  • Thermal, Electronic visions
  • Ziplines
  • Vents
  • Ladders
  • Lockpicking
  • Rappeling
  • Knife
  • Alarms
  • Swimming
  • Moving at different speeds
  • Whistling
  • Throw objects
  • Health packs ( instead of regenerating health )
  • Computer terminals
  • Satchels ( off bodies )
  • Search lights
  • Key coded locked doors
  • Hacking
  • Mines
  • Cutting throug material
  • Blowing out candles
  • Hiding bodies
  • Interogating
  • Open door stealthy option
  • Mission Ratings
  • Multiple objectives ( opportunity, optional )
  • Light meter
  • Sound meter ( great emphasis on being slow & quiet, how loud you are )
  • Emphasis on cameras & turrets
  • Penalties for killing, being seen, not hiding bodies, mission fail, etc
  • Are vulnertable & can die in one shot
  • Can GHOST through entire levels without killing ever having to kill anybody to get by
  • Melee button, Knock Out
  • Unique & varied level design
  • Levels give many intense spy/espionage moments
  • Have to find extra equpment on your own, in hidden places
  • Environment use ( turning on or off generator to catch attention, etc )

I want a true stealth game with the game based around being a spy & stealth being the focus. Maybe im asking too much.

I want something truer to the original concept on Splinter Cell, & no i dont care about Ironside. It was time to move on to a new character years ago. I care about the gameplay, not Sam Fisher.

Heres Chaos Theory S vs M

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x2ZDaen5rRw

Double Agent has a Spies vs Mercs mode if you're intertesed as well. Its much faster, dumbed down, but the servers are still up if you want to experience it for your self.
