Meaning what games for older systems have you acquired recently? What hardware (consoles/controllers/etc)?

In the past month (or so) I've gotten LOZ: Oracle of Ages, a Game Boy Advance, Tony Hawk Pro Skater for the PS1, Gauntlet Legends for the N64, GoldenEye, Banjo Kazooie. The funny thing is that I don't yet have an N64 to even play those last three on.

Copied from my post here:

http://www.gamespot.com/pages/forums/show_msgs.php?topic_id=27381645&tag=topics%3Btitle

From ebay:

May 26th - Luigi's Mansion for GameCube CIB

June 3rd - TMNT Fall of the Foot Clan game + plastic case for GameBoy - to go into my box, with the manual and all inserts making it a CIB copy

June 5th - Track & Field 2 for NES - everything but the manual - which I already had

June 12th - Gradius III for SNES - excellent-condition cartridge

I used to have Aladdin for the Genesis. It was a fun game as I recall. Perhaps I'll own it again one day.

Admittedly I hadn't seen your thread before posting this. Though to be fair your thread only asks about games people bought recently. I'm asking about what people have acquired.... whether it were bought, traded for, or even just found in a box in your grandmother's attic... and I'm including hardware as well as games.

I picked up a second Saturn with a digital pad and some extras a while back, supposedly in non-working condition. Most of the internal screws were missing, but it did power on, and cleaning the lens allowed it to read discs just fine. I'm about to order an analog pad for it, and possibly sell off one of the extra consoles to recoup a bit of the cost.

Resident Evil: Code Veronica, Dreamcast version. The Dreamcast version runs smoother then the Ps2 version, and has better graphics as well.

Ninja Gaiden for the original Xbox.

Guilty Gear X for Ps2.

Stretch Panic for Ps2.

Well they were still releasing commercial titles for the Dreamcast within the last year. I know of one company that sells new games for the Colecovision!

Anyhoo... Xbox was officially discontinued in 2006. Personally I think that's long enough to consider it a proper legacy system.

I don't have it yet, but if the seller keeps to his word, I should be getting a Neo-Geo CD with two gamepads and an AC adapter within a week. Cost me a hefty $100 shipped, though, and that's supposedly a GOOD deal for the system with the two gamepads factored in.

Yeah, I had a Neo Geo CD-Z system quite a few years back and even with the slightly faster CD-ROM I was looking at 45+ seconds between -ROUNDS- in KOF. I eventually compared it side by side to the Saturn ports of the same fighting titles and determined that the port was close enough for me to be happy (the Saturn port loaded in more like 5 seconds).

As for the rarest items I have in my collection, I have the Broadband adapter for the Dreamcast, had until recently a Doctor64 (dev kit CD-ROM drive for the N64) and Panzer Dragoon Saga for Saturn (extremely rare Panzer Dragoon RPG title).

I knew going in that the NGCD was infamous for load times. The PS1 and Saturn load times frankly didn't bother me that much. Didn't seem like it could get as bad as the PSP... ...and then I read comments like yours. 45+ seconds between rounds in a FIGHTING GAME? Were their loading routines unoptimized or something? Guess I'll find out for myself soon enough. (And this is a top-loader, so the load times will probably be a tad slower than they already are.) I definitely know that I'm going to be comparing it to my Saturn, especially since I have an Action Replay 4M Plus for RAM expansion and the two platforms have a lot of library overlap.

Yeah, expect over 1 minute load times depending on the title. KOF is an exteme example because unlike other fighters it has to load a new fighter between rounds, but still. The NeoGeo CD titles also had additional content the AES carts lacked since they used the extra capacity of the CD to load in bonuses, but the Saturn ports of Neo Geo titles often had the same content (i.e. concept artwork in KOF).

I think the KOF title in question was KOF 97, but it's been a while so I'm not 100% sure.

Yeah, the PSP could be pretty bad too. Midnight Club for the PSP had load times of over 1 minute. The only reason I know this is because my PSP was set to dim the screen after 60 seconds of inactivity and it would dim prior to a race starting. :(

Usually all the neo cd version has over the aes is an arranged track, using higher quality audio. Not really worth the trade off, but the fact that the kofs cost about $20 on CD with load times, compared to hundreds for AES carts with no load times, IS a good trade off for some.

Kof is indeed an extreme example though. When you start getting into non fighting games where game time is longer between levels it's not too bad. Think of it as time to use the bathroom or get a drink :P.
