Totally stole this thread idea from another forum I frequent.

What legacy platform games have you not played that you really should have?

For me it's these guys that people seem to go on and on about:

  • Alone in the Dark (PC) - By the time I heard of this game, it was already old, Resident Evil 2 was out. And because RE was catching on so well, some people started pointing to Alone in the Dark as it's inspiration. At the time, I owned a 286 running Windows 3.1 and it was given to me as freebie because my school couldn't sell it. So I never got the chance to play this gem because I never had a computer to run it at the time. I hope it doesn't have compatibility issues so I can play it one day.
  • Demon's Crest (SNES) - Looks like a great action-game with a few RPG-elements thrown in. I'm looking to add it to my collection soon. But for some reason, it just escaped my attention back in the day.
  • Doom II (PC) - I've played many versions of the first game many times over. I've played all 3 of the original Quake games many times over. I've even played Doom 64 many times over. But I've never played through Doom II other than the demo. Considering the compatibility issues Hexen gives me, I doubt I will ever play it other than on the small screen of my GBA-SP.
  • Heretic & Hexen II (PC) - I love the first Hexen, and I still own the original CD-Rom for Windows 95 (which has some compatibility issues on my XP system, but barely works), I also own the N64 version. Unfortunately I never got a chance to the play the first one or it's sequel. Just the middle-child.

  • The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask (N64) - I couldn't get into Ocarina of Time. I really gave it a good chance too. I tried to like it, because I'm completely in love with the 2D Zelda games on NES, SNES, Gameboy/GBC, & GBA. So because I couldn't get into Ocarina of Time, I just completely passed on Majora's Mask since it's basically Ocarina's sequel, from what I've heard.

  • Maniac Mansion (NES) - Another one like Startropics where I simply never played it back in the day, but I'm now hearing a lot about. Sounds interesting enough that I may add it to the NES pile if I find it cheap.
  • Rayman 2 (Dreamcast) - I actually own it, I found it real cheap and picked it up for my Dreamcast. I just haven't gotten around to playing it other than testing the first level to see if it worked. I've never been a big fan of 3D platformers other than the Crash Bandicoot and Pac-Man World series so I guess I'm putting Rayman 2 in the same boat with most 3D platformers in my head without giving it a fair chance first. (Funny thing is, though, that I LOOOVVVE 2D platformers like the Sonic the Hedgehog games, Super Mario games, Donkey Kong Countrys, and others.)

  • Startropics (NES) - I've heard a lot of NES fans talk about this one. I never came across it in my NES days and as a result haven't really been looking to add it to my collection either.

Majora's Mask is similar to Ocarina in the format only. The gameplay, atmosphere, story are all different.

Anyways I am going to say the Silent Hill games. Being a huge horror buff, I really want to play them. I might get a PS2 soon so I will finally be able to do so.

well, I'm a huge fan of RPGs, and I really like many rpg-ish type games where you collect monsters, cards or the like, but to this day......

....I've NEVER played a Pokemon game. Not a single one.

I still need to play Chrono Trigger. I'm a big RPG fan, and I keep hearing how awesome this game is.

Legend of Zelda a Link to the Past as well. Don't know why I still didn't play that. It's been on the VC for a while.

Emerald_Warrior

I've yet to play Majora's Mask all the way through, which is odd considering I love Ocarina of Time. I was playing it a few years back and got stumped on someting and just got really frustrated and I never went back to play it again. I was enjoying it too but I guess I just didn't have the patience for it for whatever reason. I'll probably play it fully down the road through.

With Doom II, I was kinda the same, I had played through just about every single version of Doom out there but never Doom II. That changed a couple weeks ago when I bought Doom II on Xbox Live Arcade. And I'm glad I did, it's freakin awesome. You might want to look into that as well since you say you have compatibility issues and at 800 MS Points, it's not a bad deal considering the amount of levels included.

I've also always wanted to play Final Fantasy IX but I just never got around it. Aside from FFI & II, it's the only other FF game I've haven't played. My best friend praises it constantly as one of his favorite FF and RPGs, so I'll probably be obligated to play it at some point anyways :P

I never played any of the Genesis, Sega CD, or Saturn stuff. Back in those days I was into the NES and especially the SNES and N64 stuff. Sega's consoles just didnt appeal to me, especially as the Ninty consoles always seemed to have more and better role playing games available.

Final Fantasy VI and VII (SNES and PS1, respectively): I never played these games when they were new, but I do plan on buying them soon enough since I know a place where I can find them.

Grim Fandango (PC): I've seen copies of this game around before, but my PC wouldn't be able to run it.

Banjo-Kazooie/Banjo-Tooie (Nintendo 64): I don't have an N64 or a 360 (not anymore, anyway) so I have no way of playing these or any of the other Rareware games for the N64.

Oooo, that's one I forgot to list. It's the only Ogre Battle game that I haven't played. I'm actually quite ashamed that I haven't played it considering that I'm huge fan of Yasumi Matsuno work

I just played the original a bit not the long ago, it's dated for sure but still fun to visit. If you want to get it without compatibility problems and don't mind downloading GOG has it for $6 with 2 and 3 included.

As for me, I should play Sid Meier's Pirates! one day. It's on quite a few platforms so I don't really have a reason not to.

There's also Panzer Dragoon Saga which I really want to play but price has kept me back, same goes for Radiant Silvergun. And I would like to play the Wizardry series as well(aside from the one I've played on PS2).

A ton of them. But i'll play them now, what's stopping me?

@ Thread starter, there are countless source ports to make Doom I & II play perfectly fine on any system. I've replayed them over 20 times, and i played them in like late 2010.

I'd like to play FF6-9, Xenogears, ICO, Skies of Arcadia, Sonic Adventure, Banjo-Kazooie and many more. I blame my lack of money since I wasn't even 10 by the time most of these games came out (except for ICO).

I've played through and beaten it now and it's become my third favorite game, but one game I really wish I would've played a long time ago is Final Fantasy VI. Back then, I didn't really know how to play RPGs nor did they catch my attention very well, but now that I'm older and understand the storyline and concept more, I've learned to appreciate them.

Well most of those are pretty cheap now for the downloadable services.

FF 7-9 are $10 on PSN

Sonic Adventure is $10 on PSN and X-Box Live.

And Banjo Kazooie is I think $10 on X-Box Live.

FF6 is on Wii for $8. (SNES version, titled FFIII)

So if you have at least a PS3 or 360, you can get at least 2 of those for a great price, and they all well worth it! (Actually I can't comment on Banjo, haven't played that one. And I'm not much of fan of FF8 but meh, just my opinion)

19elderscroll86

I think there are a ton of reasons: A game that you've wanted to play but didn't, good review, a recommendation from a friend who has played it, liked it,and knew you would probably like it too, seeing a preview, or basically just knowing what type of games you like. I know for me I know withouta doubt these are games I should have played (and hopefully will one day play) and I'm sure those who have played these games and enjoyed them will certainly agree.

Anyway, here's my list (to name a few)

  • Secret of Mana (SNES)
  • Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars (SNES)
  • Radiant Silvergun (Saturn)
  • Paper Mario and the Thousand Year Door (Gamecube)
  • Dragon Force (Saturn)
  • Suikoden II (PS1)
  • Vagrant Story (PS1)
  • Parasite Eve II (PS1)
  • Castlevania: Dracula X (SNES)
  • Earthbound (SNES)
  • DragonWarrior VII (PS1)
  • ActRaiser (SNES)
  • Brain Lord (SNES)
  • E.V.O.: Search for Eden (SNES)
  • Illusion of Gaia (SNES)
  • Lufia & the Fortress of Doom (SNES)
  • Robotrek (SNES)
  • Secret of Evermore (SNES)
  • Soul Blazer (SNES)
  • Super Double Dragon (SNES)
  • Brave Fencer Musashi (PS1)
  • Brigandine: Legend of Forsena (PS1)
  • Grandia (PS1)
  • UmJammer Lammy (PS1)
  • Ico (PS2)
  • Namco X Capcom (PS2)
  • Indigo Prophecy (PS2)
  • Shadow of Rome (PS2)
  • Silent Hill 2-4 (PS2)
  • Zone of the Enders
  • Zone of the Ender The 2nd Runner (PS2)

I've heard that the sequel plays differently than the original. So you may want to look into it, first, considering how pricey the game can be.

Earthbound for Super Nintendo is one that I have ALWAYS wanted to play. I saw a copy for $35 at a used video game store once. I told myself I'd get it a few days later. Of course when I went back it was gone. I'm still kicking myself over that.

Yeah, I actually did thata bit after writing that post. I'm still pretty interested though. And it won't be very pricey on PSN either, the first was only $6. The second is it's way as well, just not entirely sure when it will get there...

Dead Or Alive Ultimate (Xbox)

Alien Soldier (MD)

Arc The Lad Collection (PS)

Astra Superstars (Saturn)

Psychic Assassain (Saturn)

Lucienne's Quest (3DO)

thats at least some of them

also , while I doubt its possible, either a Manx TT Superbike or Indianapolis 500 arcade machine would be great, Motor Raid or Wave Runner are also welcome.

you can get the Gamecube version for cheap , the DC version is more expensive, but still not too bad. just be careful with the DC version , if you live in Europe and use a VGA cable with the Dreamcast, the PAL version of SOA isn't compatible with VGA . the moral is always try to get the US version , even in Europe.

For me, it would definately be the Silent Hill series. I played the original many years ago for about half an hour before giving up because it was too hard. But that will change this fall, as Silent Hill HD will be released! :D Sonic The Hedgehog - one and two have been played a LOT by me, and they're awesome games. But I never played any other besides the demo on XBLA to Sonic 3, and Sonic The Hedgehog (2006) demo. That will change soon, when I get all of the Sonic games on XBLA (maybe at once? or over time). Also deserve mentions - Alone In The Dark series, Castlevania series, Prince of Persia series (never played them enough, and only own two of the games at this moment). Also, need to play Shadow of the Collosus properly.

[QUOTE="soulless4now"]I'd like to play FF6-9, Xenogears, ICO, Skies of Arcadia, Sonic Adventure, Banjo-Kazooie and many more. I blame my lack of money since I wasn't even 10 by the time most of these games came out (except for ICO). lazyathew

I know most of them are downloadable, but I prefer hard copies of games plus my ps3 isn't hooked up to the internet anyway but I could play the FF games on my psp if I really wanted to.
