Some sort of unique twist to the genre it's in. I probably wouldn't have been particularly interested in Crysis if it weren't for the various armour powers or JC2 for it's very open take on the sandbox.

...Or in the case of Mass Effect, engaging characters and plot (and replayability within all that).

This seems very specific, but I'll bite :P.

-Atmosphere and universe is everything. If the world don't grab me, it's not worth my time. Also, does it play well with others? Co-op is my thing.

-Beautiful is a weird word to use here. It's hard to single out just one, but I'm gonna say anything that has good co-op implementation. ARMA II comes to mind. Specifically the "war" mode: hundreds of AI in organized units fighting across a huge map to control dozens of towns while you're just a foot soldier. That's still amazing to me.

-Going with Kane and Lynch 1 and 2. 1 because the story was interesting until they decided to go to Havanna. What a mess. 2 because the marketing was 10x better than the game itself. And they skimped out on the story, which I thought they would at least nail. So not the case.

-Probably Mass Effect. I was really into Halo for a while there, but I can't keep track of anything else in the extended universe that isn't the novels. ME is the most intriguing since there are a ton of places Bioware can take us, now if they only dropped the Star Trek 2009 hot-rod-lens-flare aesthetic and go into grittier BSG territory, this would be the perfect universe.

-I would like to say something from a Bioware property, but honestly whenever I think game character, I always fall back to Kane (yes, from Kane and Lynch). I think if the rest of the game had better story telling, Kane might have been one of the more sophisticated characters. Always reminded me of Breaking Bad where Walter White is forced to try to do the lesser of two evils and everyone gets hurt. But they couldn't tell a cohesive story unfortunately.

Hard one.. it depends on my mood. Sometimes i'm looking for a deep experience, a fantastic story, that'll leave it's mark on me far after i finished it. Other times i'm looking for some quick fun, or some hard epic action hack n' slash experience.

- What is the most beautiful feature or mechanic you have seen in a game? and why?

Wile you're in Bullet Time in Max Payne 2, you can do this slow mo spin to kill you're enemies, like in the movies. Hands down the greatest mechanic, because it's so damn epic doing that move wile you're surrounded by 10 guys.

- What is the most disappointing game you have ever played? and why?

Soldier of Fortune 2. I wanted to like that game, but i just couldn't have fun in it. Not my **** it's boring as ***.

- What games world is most interesting to you?

Deus Ex's cyber punk settings.

- Which video game character appeals to you the most?

Dante from DMC3. I feel as if he's what gaming is missing. A fun protagonist.

It has to be an easy game, and it has to be fun to play. Usually the easy part covers it, but great gameplay is always nice.

Other than visuals, What do you look for / what are your interests in a game?

I often look for games that are from my favourite franchises. Failing that, something similar to one of those games. I'm currently playing The Witcher, which I bought a few weeks ago because the cover art reminded me of Oblivion. I'm now really hanging out for both The Witcher 2 and Skyrim.

What is the most beautiful feature or mechanic you have seen in a game? and why?

Call me self-obsessed, but I love the way you can make your own characters in games. This is particularly common in sports titles, and I don't actually know which game was the first to do this, but being able to see "myself" on a video game is pretty cool.

What is the most disappointing game you have ever played? and why?

There's too many to list here. Ironically, I can't really come up with many. I suppose a recent example would be both games from the Star Wars: The Force Unleashed series. All the Star Wars games I had played up to this point were fantastic, which included the Jedi Power Battles game, the Knights of the Old Republic and even the Episode I Racer games, to name a few. But when I played The Force Unleashed, that special vibe was missing -- the thing that made the previous games so great. I thought maybe the second game would improve on the first, instead it got worse. There's no fluidity in the series, nothing really spectacular.

What games world is most interesting to you?

The beauty of video gaming in the modern era is the amount of precision and vivacity that game developers can add to their characters or settings. Many of these worlds feature lots of detail, and are a lot more accessible than they used to be. That being said, the world from Final Fantasy VIII is the best I've ever seen, if you collaborate both graphics quality with age of the game. Obviously, newer games are going to have better graphics than older ones, but a game that is over 10 years old to feature FMVs in that quality, and rich colours and textures, impresses me every time.

Which video game character appeals to you the most?

My favourite game character is Izzy Sparks from the Guitar Hero franchise, because his stage presence reminds me so much of myself. That said, I have to give this spot to Garrus Vakarian from Mass Effect. Although as a player, you use Commander Shepard, I always select Garrus as a partner. I don't know if it's the character design, his background (being a turian like Saren, which I wanted revenge on) or the fact that his introduction appealed to me than any other character (Wrex was a close second), but in my opinion, he's the coolest game character that I've ever seen.

The story and the gameplay are the things that interest me in a game. I normally wouldn't be into first person shooters but the story of Homefront really interests me!

Similar to LordRock where a game has to do something at least a little different from other games in its genre - and I think it was the same thing with Crysis for me - the interest started with the suit. At the same time the graphics had to play a roll as I was interested in seeing how they would be able to push technology after Far Cry - What would Crytek be able to do after a few more years? What freedom would I have in exploring the world while still following the path through the story.

But it's not only Crysis, or the FPS genre that I play games from. As I started my 'gaming life' in the early-mid-late 1980's with arcade, PC and NES I am usually interested in the various changes made to franchises that started during that generation. A game like Bionic Commando, which was a sequel to one of my favorite games - Commando - has taken on a life of its own in Bionic Commando Rearmed, the 'sandbox' Bionic Commando game and most-recently Bionic Commando Rearmed 2. At the same time I've played so many games that it takes something special to get me interested as more come out.

I tend to stick to 3 key areas 1) Sequel to a game I like. 2) Developer I've liked in the past. 3) Replayability - is this something I'll see myself playing a few times.

I'm attracted to risky new IPs. It really helps if I can get my hands on a demo as well. That's why I ended up loving Mirror's Edge so much.

For me personally its the presentation. Not so much graphical fidelity as much as design and overall polish. This is a visual medium it's important what you see grabs you.

Probably Brinks Smart system. Freedom of movement is something the FPS genre has been lacking. Another title that allows this (to a lesser extent) is Crysis 2, you can climb obstacles and slide under things and other unique gameplay elements. Its innovation in a genre where innovations are few and far between.

First place is a toss between Halo3 & MW2. Halo 3's presentation was of a low quality. Crap graphics to even worse sound design (not counting the soundtrack) and worst of all stale/bland/last gen gameplay. (I expected so much more) MW2 was just bad, bad networking (even though BO is way worse),an unbalanced MP and poor level design. Laughable story. Glitches and hacks galore and the dev doing nothing about it. (i know people that can actually hack everything down to weapon damage... its' BS) 3rd place goes to RE5. It was one of my most anticipated games (following H3 & MW2) this gen. Instead of getting a survival horror game we get an action shooter in which WE CANT MOVE AND SHOOT. ****ing stupid! Dead Space put the RE series to shame..

Fallout3 had me the most interested and most immersed in a world to date.

The Master Chief, the character design is one of my favs. Also Mario, which just has a lot of significance from my child hood. These two characters and their games are what made me into the gamer I am today to be honest...

Lots of unlockables (Like the past MK games)..But having to earn them with Koins or currency.I like saving up to buy new arenas or other things..not just putting in a controller code.

If it''s a sequel to a game I liked. If a specific developer is working on a game (for example Remedy is a company I follow). If we are dealing with a new IP I typically need to see some video of it before I truly get excited but sometimes a concept write up can catch my eye.

1. Fun factor

2. Length

3. Depth

4. Art

I want the most fun,for the longest possible and with enough depth to give an extra interest, loking amazing in art helps as well a lot

So, any6-7 game (shortest length), with repeatitive (not fun) gameplay, more of the same linear shallow shooting and bashing (no depth) and focus on graphics (than amazing art), is my worst game on this planet

And that includes 99% of shooter games

I look for the game giving me more than just an adventure and infinite time at the end to finish anything I didn't finish before the end of the game, random events, an open world filled with places to explore and things to do, that can make me accumulate days of straight play. The most beautiful feature I have seen in a game has to be the sky diving in Just Cause two, you don't see sky diving a lot and in looked pretty awesome in Just Cause 2. The most disappointing game I have ever played has to be Guitar Hero World Tour, boring songs, weird looking character models, and a broken controller made that game horrible for me, I think I bought that game the same day Michal Jackson died too which is kind of funny. My favorite game world has to be the Capital Wasteland, I have a total of about 160 hours on Fallout 3 and that is just one character, 2/3rds of that time has been spent exploring all the little nooks and crannys in that game world. The characters that appeal to me, well John Marston comes to mind, obviously Samus, Felicia also comes to mind, she appeals to me very much indeed.

Customisation, especially for strategy and shooter games. Freedom/nonlinearity for most genres. Interesting-looking world, especially alternative history setting. Attractive anime style makes almost anything better.

-Immersion. Not in all games, but I'm really into wrpgs because I feel like I can really get lost in the world for hours because the game is so immersive.

-The first game this gen that really impressed me was Oblivion because of how amazingly open ended the experience was. It was really spectacular being able to go through different missions and story structures at your own pace.

-Most Disappointing game I've ever played... hmmmmm.... I think I'd have to say it was Gears2 just because I had sky high expectations and didn't find it at all entertaining or graphically appealing.

-Mass Effect's universe is my favorite. Its the most interesting and well thought out. Really well constructed and deep. After that its Oblivion, because its the best fantasy setting I've ever played.

-As far as characters go, I can really learn to like any of them. Besides those in games with overly serious tones with hardened military leads or something.

I am the same. Although I didn't really like Mirror's Edge, I truly enjoyed Heavy Rain, for example.

Story mostly, plus the theme and the characters .
