What older PC game deserves a modern remake?

I've been thinking about all these remakes and remasters lately. Got me wondering about those classic PC games we used to play back in the day. You know, the ones with killer gameplay but graphics that look ancient now. What old-school PC game do you guys think really needs a fresh coat of paint? I'm talking full remake, not just a remaster. Like, imagine your favorite childhood game with today's graphics and maybe some updated mechanics. What game would you love to see brought back to life? Personally, I've got a few in mind, but I'm curious what you all think. Drop your picks below!

Would love to see a Simpsons hit and run remaster or remake

Assassin's Creed II Remake would be cool. Making realistic graphics, more challenging combat & adding new things.

Unreal Tournament. It was ahead of its time, in my view. Having a remake of it would be awesome.

Doom 64. Although I had read an article where they are preparing something good.

I loved everything about this game; the point and click, the environment and incredibly creepy mood. Bizarre characters and puzzles. I think about it all the time.

Maybe an updated version of the original point/click style, or a shift into an fps adventure/puzzle game. Would be incredible to see if a studio picked it up and really did it right. I know this will always be a dream but dreams usually are.

The first Wing Commander, maybe the first few of them even. The scope of the world and narrative are pretty epic, but the gameplay has not aged that well. Motive made a fantastic space combat game with Star Wars Squadrons, so EA should have them do it. Much of the legwork would already be done. Just expand the out of cockpit parts, and build some not Star Wars looking ships. Even if they started production now, it would still probably come out before Star Citizen.

Speaking of, Microsoft should also bring back Star/Freelancer.

Quake 4

I wanna see an entire Bioforge remake done in Unreal Engine 5 or Frostbite. I want it to be an over the shoulder third person survival horror like Dead Space but with melee focus. I want every room and hallway from top to bottom to be recreated and have cinematic finishers.

Yeah, would love to see this. Frame-for-frame remake would be great, but I'd love to see it given the "Black Mesa" treatment where it's like 80% true to original, but some really passionate people put their own spin on it.

Make it a bit more user friendly and add some quality-of-life improvements as well.

Or, you know, just give it to Nightdive I guess?

@mrbojangles25: Yeah more direct remakes like Dead Space and The Secret of Monkey Island; that focus on a face-lift with some add-ons and quality of life changes are always welcome to fans of the original. Upcoming The Thing Video Game looks to be very faithful to the original while enhancing the experience to be more enjoyable in 2024.

Just don't break it all apart and make a dud like Alone in the Dark (2024) or Shadow of the Beast Remake. It's weird when a team 'remakes' a game and has the viewpoint of "they made it wrong, the original is trash, we'll redo everything and throw all the ideas out the window." Having zero respect to the original game.

Some of the remakes that just completely redo the game entirely work, namely due to talent and love for the original. So long as they still pay respect to the original they work out well, yet it all depends what changes are made and why they made them. How much the team respects the source material is important. No one wants another Twin Snakes.

It's not a Pc game but I would really love to see a continuation of Taito's Chase HQ series , they don't even have to try to modernize it either because the last entry they made for the series was kind of ugly and gritty looking
