My favorite fighter game series is either the Super Smash Bros. series or the Dragon Ball Z Budokai series. One of them was pretty obvious because of my user picture lol.

Marvel vs Capcom, Capcom vs Snk
These Capcom vs series always have a ton of characters and they are so broken that the options are practically limitless. I mean, I played Marvel vs Capcom 2 for over 10 years bro... I only dropped this game like a year before MvsC3 was announced. And for the record, MvsC2 on PS3 and X360 have the very best netcode of any fighting game released to date, so playing that game online is a dream, it's like playing against someone locally.
Street Fighter. Used to have our own arcade business back in 90s. Played Street Fighter 2 for free for many years before owning my own Consoles. Since then I'm a big fan of the series. In fact, it's the only fighting series I really care about. After switching to PC, I was so glad to see Street Fighter 4 coming to it. Looking forward to SF 5.
@ayanami000: color me impressed,I didn't know the Megaman series are into fighting games...
for me,I have chosen Street Fighter,and Smash Bros.,the latter is my personal "Diamond Standard"
@Cloud_imperium: I get your point and I have Street Fighter 2 too and while I'm GARBAGE at it I have some fun at it with my bros.
@Lulu_Lulu: i know! When I used to go on holiday as a kid they had an arcade near where we were staying that had virtua fighter 2. me and a friend would always play it. we used to call Shun Di the old guy with the drunken kung fu style, dodgy grandad.
@pikachewbacca:
He's one of the more intetesting characters. Most games with the Drunken Fist Characters just have the style but none of the responsibility of actually drinking to get more powerful. I'l always respect Sega for what they did with Shun Di.... :)
I love playing Smash Bros. with my mates, often with a pint or two. Otherwise it's pretty much Mortal Kombat or whichever Dragon Ball game is new for me.
Used to be a big Soul Calibur fan, but wasn't a huge fan of SCV. May pick up SCVI if it happens, but we'll have to see.
@Lulu_Lulu: SFIV has a moves list.It also has a challenge mode for each character that allows you to learn techniques. Not to mention channels that let you watch replays of other players.
And TONS of online tutorials for any experience level. There are plenty of avenues to learn to play SFIV.
@sayyy-gaa:
THE GAME ITS SELF HAS NO TUTORIAL !!!!
Learning combos means didly squat.... everybody knows the most important thing in fighting games is to create oppertunities to make your combos viable...... and I for one can tell you first hand that doing learning combos on a dummy that doesn't fight back is only setting you up for a very very very bad experience.
Tutorials are relatively new to fighting games..... I mean an actual comprehensive in depth tutorial...... but finally they are starting to focus on them, DoA has one, Guilty Gear has One, Mortal Kombat X has and Killer Instinct has the best one.
Any game that doesn't tell you how to play it.... has no right to call itself objectively the best.....
@Zen_Light:
LoL.... my bad... I meant METAKNIGHT.... thats the name I was looking for..... I have no clue where I got "Nightmare"... I don't even play Soul Calibur.
Makes more sense now. Metaknight was only a beast in Brawl. Frequent patches (yep, Nintendo does that too now) have nerfed those with ungodly powers.
Probably Tekken but there are so many fighters I've enjoyed playing throughout the years....DoA, SC, KoF, DB, etc...
For me it is a tie between Soul Calibur and Guilty Gear. I also love Mortal Kombat, even though I suck at it, due to the nostalgia I have for it.
I play shooters nowadays, but back in my Nintendo days, Super Smash Bros. was the shit. I was never good at games like Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat. My pea brain can remember maybe three or four combos before it melts.
@ariabed:
I know that...... but I just don't know why...... all I can think is its a very old series and its slowly accumulated popularity over time........ but looking at the actual game itself I just don't know why someone might want to commit so much time to it when they can just play something else.......
Looking for something simple ? There's Smash
Looking for something Complex ? Theres BlazBlue.
Looking for something over the top and awesome ? Theres a crap ton of anime waifu fighters (gosh I feel horrible now)
Looking for something deep ? Theres Killer Instinct.
@Lulu_Lulu: street fighter is a well rounded fighting game, its basically a mix of simple complex deep, and over the top action, plus i like the art style.
I remember when i was first able to perform a dragon punch at will, felt better than when you finally kill a boss on darksouls :p

Now that's something LuLu will definitely agree upon I'm sure. :P
@Topic, definitely Tekken. It's the only fighting series I've cared enough to put more than 100 hours in and I hate playing fighting games.
