Hmmm..almost all Squaresoft-Series (none of them has reached the level f the older ones on the PS2).
And as good as all 2D-Series has been, may you name Mario (Mario 64 and SM Sunshine weren´t more the ok),Zelda (the 3D Parts are just nice,no more and no less) or Sonic (After Sonic Adventure...a total downfall).
My personal Number one is Driver. The first was a Bomb! The 2nd was Junk, the third was Junk...the fourth was at least ok.
Metal Gear Solid.
First 2 are my favorite games of all time. The 3rd one is the worst game that i have ever played.
Elder ScrollsRK-Mara
Huh, are you serious? I still to this day do not get all of the Oblivion hate, why did it piss Morrowind fans off so much...I've played Morrowind and I'm sorry to say but it really wasn't all that great. RE4 may not have been a survival horror game, but it was arguably the best RE I had ever played besides maybe RE:CV. Rainbow Six Vegas may not force players to go through as much trail and error, and map planning, but its still a great series.

Really? The third one was the best MGS I've ever played and one of the best games of last-gen.
Oh well, to each his/her own I guess.
Anyway, back to the topic, I think a lot of the franchise series are declining a bit. I can name them but I'm sure everyone here already knows which ones I'm referring to.
Anyone who doesn't say Sonic The Hedgehog should be slapped. Oh, wow, Sonic gets a car and his 456th playable ally in this repeat of the last 3 Sonic games.
Tomb Raider would be a close second.

That's Activision for you. ;)
I'm still waiting for them to make that Tony Hawk Guitar Hero game. :P

Oblivion is less in every single way except for graphics, voice acting, AI and combat.
Anyways the Shadowrun series has gone downhill. It started out as two great RPG's for the 16 bit systems, then turned into a widely ignored team based FPS now the franchise rests in limbo. I dont think any of the titles listed have disappointed this much.
I agree that MGS has been in decline, but that started with the second one. And the third may not have been a top tier title, but it certainly could'nt have been the worst game you've ever played. Did you mean the worst Metal Gear game?Metal Gear Solid.

Anyway, I'd definitely go with MGS. Not that the newer ones are bad, but it's just that the first was so awesome. It was in a league with the likes of Zelda, Gears, or GTA in my opinion. Now, I find it difficult to get too excited about them. There's at least a dozen other titles I care more about this year than another MGS game.

MGS4 looks amazing! i'm sure that'll change things around but i still love all the MGS games (expect MGA...stupid card battle game, pft)[QUOTE="RK-Mara"]Elder ScrollsHiResDes

Oblivion hate? I haven't heard that many complaints about the game, morrowind fanboys cried over the epic stuff in Oblivion saying it " wasn't as good as morrowinds", personally Oblivion is just a flat out better game then morrowind..

I found the thrid one to be the weakest of the three, I actually hated the original version of the game, I didn't get around to beating it until I got subsistence when it came out.., I thought it was a great MGS, but not as good as the first two.
Any Megaman series by far. Then Sonic, and Donkey Kong.MLBknights58Yeah when Megaman became Pokeman...
Unpopular response forthcoming:
Halo series. Halo 1 was a landmark game 6 years ago, but Bungie hasn't had the cajones to change or improve anything about the gameplay. I've played every Halo game that's been released less and less since the original. Halo 4 will be Halo 3: Deluxe Edition with 5 new weapons and 4 new maps.

YES! I agree to that 110%!!
I think MGS is a good point too.MGS was totally awesome,MGS2 felt like a poor rip-off in every way,MGS3 was totally not what it was supposed to be.MGS show how to turn a awesome Storyline and a frightnigng Setting into total idiotic and unrealistic crap. But all of them had a great show around it.
I can´t understand why anyone is picking on Megaman.Exept some poor parts (like almost all series),the Games stayed true to the formula and all MegaMan X parts, exept X7 had been fun.The RPG wasn´t bad too.
I still stay with Driver, because only the 1st had been really outstanding, the 2nd was one of the worst games ever, the 3rd wasn´t much better and the 4th better, but just ok.
The new Sonic game could be really good. It´s a mix of 2D and 3D game.Maybe it finds the gap that´s missing in most games.

I was actually going to say this, but didn't feel like hearing the flak.
I mean, I LIKE Halo 2 and especially 3. But they are in no way even close to what Halo 1 was, or IMO even as good. Halo 1 was an incredible game in 2001. Probably the best launch game ever. Halo 2 and Halo 3 weren't even close. In fact, they took some of the things I loved about the first game and made them worse. The AI was more random in Halo 1. Halo 1 had way larger scale battles, whereas 2 and 3 focus more on small scale fights, other than the Scarabs. And Halo 1 had the best levels, like Assault On The Control Room and The Silent Cartographer.
Halo 1 also had, and this was my favorite thing about it, a near horror-like vibe to it. The whole atmosphere was very eerie and unsettling, especially once the Flood came around. I also loved how the Aliens spoke their OWN LANGUAGE, and you didn't know what the hell they were saying as they barked orders to each other.
Then all the sudden in Halo 2 they all speak English with these lame voices and stupid one-liners, I was like Ugh give me a break. The whole eerie atmosphere was replaced by comedy, and the series has since been in play-it-safe mode gameplay-wise. They gave it a very Star Wars-like vibe in 2 and 3, obviously aiming it to be the most mass-market Mature-rated series ever. Which they succeeded at, but imo the series has been worse off for it.
